Anya Sofía Corazón is a super-heroine who went by the name Araña and had a symbiotic exoskeleton which emanated from her spider-shaped tattoo. She then lost those powers and instead gained new powers similar to that of Spider-Man. She became Spider Girl before returning as Araña. (More Marvel Characters in Profile)

Anya Sofía Corazón, originally a teenage gymnast from Brooklyn, gained her powers after intervening in a battle between the mystical Spider Society and the Sisterhood of the Wasp. To save her life after she took a fatal blow intended for him, a mage named Miguel Legar transferred power to her, granting her superhuman strength, agility, and the ability to manifest a blue exoskeleton. Adopting the codename Araña, she operated as a Hunter for the Spider Society through their front company, WebCorps, until the death of her mentor and the loss of her exoskeleton at the hands of the Doomsday Man led her to operate as an independent hero under the mentorship of Ms. Marvel.
Following a traumatic abduction by the Kravinoff family during the Grim Hunt, Anya received a new costume from the new Madame Web and eventually adopted the mantle of Spider-Girl to avoid identity confusion. During this period, she faced personal tragedy with the death of her father, Gilberto, though she later teamed up with the Red Hulk to dismantle the corrupt organization known as Raven. She became a key player in global and multiversal conflicts, utilizing her unique knowledge of spider-totems to assist the Spider-Army against the Inheritors and fighting alongside the Order of the Web against Sin-Eater and the demonic Kindred.
Recently, Anya returned to her original alias, Araña, after her Spider-Girl suit was destroyed and her original totemic abilities began to resurface. Guided by Madame Web to combat the threat of Shathra, she traveled the Spider-Verse to recruit allies, eventually encountering an alternate reality version of herself. After helping this variant rescue her living parents from a cult, Anya returned to Earth-616.
Appearance: Araña has tan skin. Her short, spiky brown hair flares outward in thick clumps. Large goggles with convex yellow lenses and black rims completely conceal her eyes. A red scarf wraps loosely around her neck, with the fabric trailing behind her shoulders. She wears a white sleeveless bodysuit featuring a large, stylized red spider emblem that spans her chest and torso. Her right arm is bare at the shoulder and features a black band around the bicep. White bandages wrap around her right elbow and forearm, leading into a bulky red gauntlet and a fingerless glove. Her left arm is covered by a white sleeve from the shoulder down, wrapped in white bandages on the forearm, and ends in a red fingerless glove. Two grey cylindrical canisters hang from straps at her waist. Her legs are encased in tight, glossy red trousers. Her feet are covered by red boots with reinforced soles and heel straps.
Personality: Anya is a headstrong, street-smart hero defined by her toughness and Brooklyn grit. She is fiercely independent and confident, often to the point of stubbornness, and possesses a sharp, sarcastic wit that rivals Spider-Man’s. While she presents a hardened exterior, she is deeply loyal and protective of her friends and family, driven by the trauma of losing her mother and later her father.
Unlike some of her Spider-counterparts who rely purely on science or altruism, Anya is pragmatic and grounded in the mystical responsibilities of being a Hunter. She is tech-savvy and adaptable, often serving as the "brains" or the occult expert in team settings. She bridges the gap between being a grounded, modern teenager and a warrior tasked with protecting the multiverse, handling immense pressure with a distinct "roll with the punches" attitude.
Following the events of Spider-Island, Anya’s physiology was mutagenically altered to mirror Spider-Man’s, granting her raw power comparable to Peter Parker. She possesses immense superhuman strength and durability that renders her bulletproof and able to survive massive impact forces, alongside speed exceeding 30 miles per hour and reflexes ten times that of a normal human. Uniquely, she can generate organic webbing from glands in her forearms and possesses a camouflage ability that allows her to blend into shadows, effectively turning invisible to enemies.
Before these biological enhancements, Anya derived her power from a mystical Spider Society tattoo. This mark granted her enhanced physical attributes and the ability to manifest a blue, protective exoskeleton or carapace. She could control the shape and thickness of this armor to deflect small firearms, though fully encasing herself prevented her from breathing underwater. She also once harbored the "Spirit of the Hunter," a mystical force that triggered a berserker state, though she later surrendered this spirit and the associated Hunter abilities to her ally Nina.
Her physical powers are supplemented by her background as a talented gymnast, allowing her to contort her body to absorb blows or fit into impossible spaces. She is fluent in Spanish and English and has received formal S.H.I.E.L.D. training in combat and espionage, which she pairs with a personal talent for hacking. In battle, she utilizes self-invented spider-bolas—palm-sized discs attached to cords—which function as versatile grappling hooks, capture devices, or long-range weapons.

Anya is mid-air, flipping over a charging brute of a villain—some D-lister with super strength and zero brain cells. As she vaults over his head, she doesn't just shoot a web; she whips her arm back and releases a spider-bola. The disc spins through the air, the cord extending and wrapping tight around the villain's ankles. As she lands in a crouch, the weighted disc locks, magnetic clamps engaging with a loud click.
The brute crashes face-first into the pavement. Anya stands up, dusting off her red trousers. "You know, if you guys stopped skipping leg day, you might not trip so easily," she quips, walking over to inspect her handiwork.
"My father once told me there's no way to get a good story, to do a good job, without embedding yourself in the dirt. So... for better or worse... I'm your girl."
