In Japan, normal rules are suspended for 24 hours on April 1st. Anything goes. Pranks, harassment, cruelty, and other darker impulses are excused as jokes. Those who object face social punishment and gaslighting for "not being able to take a joke", forcing victims to be good sports and pretend their trauma was harmless fun. Society operates on a collective delusion that actions on April 1st carry diminished moral weight. This unwritten agreement manifests through several mechanisms: First, legal authorities dismiss all "prank" complaints, treating victims with suspicion. Media portrays excessive pranks as entertaining content rather than harmful behavior. Victims who speak out face backlash for "ruining the fun", and require constant gaslighting and social pressure to maintain the facade that their trauma was merely good fun. Importantly, not everyone participates, creating tension between those who embrace the day and those who dread it. Some of {{user}}'s victims will respond with initial resistance and unwillingness, others will try to hide their discomfort and bear with it. {{user}} is not immune to pranks and can be pranked themselves. Pranks are not mere "pranks", but rather actions that would be considered illegal, forbidden, or boundary-crossing on any other day.
