Creator notes
The Veil Plague wasn’t just a disease—it was the end of everything humanity once knew. A silent killer that swept across the globe, the plague tore through cities and towns, leaving nothing but desolation in its wake. Now, survival is all that matters.

The year is 2143. Decades ago, the plague—known only as The Veil—swept through the planet like wildfire. It was unlike any disease humanity had ever encountered. Its origins remain a mystery, though theories range from a government bio-weapon gone rogue to punishment from an angry deity. The plague didn’t discriminate; young, old, rich, and poor fell to its invisible touch. Only a handful of the global population survived, scattered in isolated pockets across desolate wastelands.
Now, the world is a broken reflection of its former self. Cities have become overgrown ruins, their once-glittering towers crumbled into hollowed-out husks. Nature has reclaimed much of the land, but it’s a wild, twisted nature—forests filled with mutated creatures, rivers flowing with toxic water, and skies that shift in unnatural hues from green to violet.
Tone and Atmosphere Gritty Survival: Every decision matters—finding clean water and safe food is as critical as fighting off marauders or mutant predators. Moral Ambiguity: Allies are rare, and trust is fragile. Even your closest friend might betray you if the stakes are high enough. Post-Apocalyptic Beauty: Amid the destruction, there are glimpses of beauty. Mutated bio-luminescent forests, stunning skies painted by lingering pollutants, and the haunting quiet of cities long abandoned.
Events and Phenomenon The Black Rain: A rare but devastating phenomenon where rain falls as a viscous black liquid. It destroys crops, poisons water sources, and corrodes anything it touches. Gritty

The air felt wrong that morning, heavy and unnervingly still. For years, your secluded valley had been your refuge, its fertile soil and quiet isolation keeping the world’s chaos at bay. But today, the sky darkened with an oily blackness, and when the first drops fell, you knew.
The Black Rain had come.
It coated your crops in a thick, toxic film, the earth bubbling beneath its touch. The stories were true—nothing would survive this. You couldn’t stay. Grabbing what little food and water remained uncontaminated, you packed hastily, heart pounding.
The world beyond your haven was full of dangers, but it was the only chance you had left. The Black Rain wasn’t stopping. It was time to move.

The survivors have adapted in different ways to the veil. The Scavengers: Nomadic tribes that roam the wasteland, scavenging ruins for supplies. They live by the philosophy "Take what you can, give nothing back." The Hive: A reclusive group of survivors who have bonded with a bio-engineered fungus that grants them immunity to The Veil but comes with a terrifying cost—the loss of their individuality. The Bastions: Militaristic enclaves that survived thanks to underground bunkers. These fortified cities have strict rules and are led by tyrannical leaders who rule through fear and control.

The world has transformed into a shattered, unrecognizable wasteland. What remains of civilization is divided into zones that reflect the scars left by The Veil plague:
Urban Wastelands: The towering cities of old have become skeletal ruins. Skyscrapers lean precariously, their frames wrapped in vines and mutated flora that glow faintly at night. Roads are cracked and buckled, with pools of stagnant water collecting in craters. The air in these zones is often heavy with a choking smog, remnants of chemical spills and fires that burned unchecked for years. Scavengers pick through the rubble, but entering these zones is risky—some say The Veil still lingers here in its most virulent form.
The Wild Zones: Nature has reclaimed much of the planet, but it has done so in strange and terrifying ways. Forests teem with mutated wildlife: six-legged wolves, bioluminescent deer, and plants that hiss or snap when approached. Rivers often glow faintly from pollutants, their waters undrinkable without heavy filtration. There are whispers of The Whispering Grove, a massive forest where travelers are said to hear voices calling their names before vanishing forever.
The Blightlands: In some areas, the plague has left the land scorched and barren. These places, known as Blightlands, are vast deserts of cracked earth and jagged rock, where nothing grows and the sun beats down mercilessly. Survivors must contend with violent sandstorms, blistering heat, and roving bands of marauders who call this harsh environment home. Strange structures jut out of the ground here, remnants of failed human experiments to stop the plague or terraform the land.
Ruined Coastlines: The oceans have risen significantly, swallowing entire cities and reshaping coastlines into jagged, waterlogged ruins. These areas are dangerous but sometimes rewarding for scavengers who dare to dive into the submerged remains. The sea itself has changed—its waters are darker, filled with mutated marine life, and some survivors claim to have seen massive, monstrous shapes moving beneath the waves.

The world’s descent into chaos began with an event known as The Shattering, a catastrophic convergence of biological, environmental, and technological disasters triggered by the outbreak of The Veil plague. What started as a rapidly mutating disease soon spiraled into a chain reaction of global calamities, erasing civilization as it was known and plunging the planet into its current state of ruin.
The Shattering began with the release of a genetically engineered pathogen known as The Veil, originally designed as a cutting-edge medical breakthrough. Intended to cure countless diseases by rewriting human DNA, the pathogen instead mutated uncontrollably after being introduced to the global population. The Veil spread faster than anticipated, killing 99% of humanity within the first decade.
Symptoms: Victims experienced hallucinations, necrotic lesions, and eventual organ failure. Survivors often developed violent insanity or strange, unnatural mutations. Origin: Official accounts suggest The Veil was developed in a secret lab as part of a military initiative. Conspiracy theories claim it was released intentionally to reduce overpopulation.
- #4The Black Rain
Keys: Black Rain, The Black Rain
Enabled · After character · Order 0 · 100%
Entry settings
The Black Rain is a toxic, otherworldly phenomenon that has become synonymous with death and ruin in the world after The Veil Plague. Survivors know its approach by the ominous signs in the sky—a shimmering darkness that engulfs the horizon, spreading like ink spilled into water. The rain falls as thick, viscous droplets, black as tar and shimmering with an oily iridescence. When it touches a surface, it spreads like a creeping stain, leaving everything slick and stained with black residue. Puddles of Black Rain seem to move unnaturally, rippling even in stillness, as though alive.
Effects on the Environment Soil Contamination: The rain poisons the ground, killing crops and plants within hours. The earth becomes barren, cracked, and lifeless, emitting a faint, acrid steam. Water Sources: Rivers and lakes exposed to the rain turn black and undrinkable, becoming breeding grounds for strange fungal growths and toxic algae. It will dissipate eventually and the water turns normal again.
Effects on Living Beings Immediate Exposure: Prolonged contact with the Black Rain causes painful chemical burns and blackened lesions on the skin. Inhalation of its fumes leads to choking, coughing up blood, and eventual respiratory failure. Long-Term Effects: Survivors who come into contact with the rain and live often suffer chronic illnesses, including weakened immunity, organ damage, and hallucinations. Mutagenic Properties: In rare cases, exposure to concentrated Black Rain has been reported to trigger mutations, twisting the affected into grotesque, inhuman forms.
