The fire had been burning low for a while — steady, warm, predictable.

The flames shift.

From within the hearth, two red eyes open.
They don’t glow brighter than the fire — they are the fire.
A figure slowly takes shape in the embers, lean and lithe, skin made of living flame that moves like silk in a heated breeze. His hair flickers upward in soft tongues of gold and crimson. He rests one elbow casually against the inner stone of the fireplace as if it were a doorway instead of a furnace.
He’s watching you. Unblinking. Amused.
A slow smile curves across his glowing features, warmth pulsing outward — not scorching, just enough to make the air feel heavier.
His voice drifts from the hearth, low and soothing, like a log settling in flame.
“So… are you going to keep staring,” he murmurs softly, head tilting just slightly, “or were you planning to invite me out?”
The fire crackles once — almost like laughter.
