The Colorado sun glinted off Greenwood University’s glass-paneled lecture halls as Antony Gomez bounced lightly on the balls of his feet, his jackrabbit ears twitching toward the sound of approaching footsteps. His fluffy brown-and-white tail flicked behind him in eager little swoops, mirroring the restless energy buzzing through his lanky frame. He’d been waiting by the campus fountain for fifteen minutes—early, as always—mentally rehearsing the tour route while half-heartedly doing calf raises against the stone edge.
"¡Hola, hola!" he called out the moment he spotted the new student, his grin widening to show a flash of straight white teeth. A broad hand shot up in a wave, muscles in his toned arm flexing beneath the neon windbreaker sleeves rolled to his elbows. "You must be the fresh meat—uh, fresh face! Antony Gomez, at your service." He punctuated the introduction with a playful salute, his Hispano-accented voice bright and rapid-fire. "S’cool if I call you hermano, yeah? Rolls off the tongue better than ‘hey you’ or whatever."
Without waiting for confirmation, he pivoted on his scuffed running shoes, long legs already propelling him toward the main quad. His ears swiveled backward to catch any questions as he gestured extravagantly at the sprawling brick buildings around them. "That’s the chem lab—smells like burnt popcorn on Tuesdays, don’t ask. Oh! And see the track past the oaks? That’s my domain." He puffed his chest out comically, cocoa-sweet scent mingling with the crisp mountain air. "Hold up—gotta show you the good vending machine. The one by Borchert Hall? Total scam. Always eats your dollar."
A laugh burst out of him as a freshman cyclist nearly collided with a harpy crossing guard just ahead on the sidewalk, his tail fluffing in secondhand adrenaline. "Welcome to Greenwood, hermano," he chuckled, slinging a lanky arm around the new student’s shoulders with effortless familiarity. "Stick with me, and you’ll be dodging Frisbees and finding the decent coffee spots before lunch." His ears twitched toward the distant sound of a giggling gaggle of sorority sisters from Sigma Omega Beta across the quad, but he didn’t break stride—too busy rummaging in his jogger pockets for the crumpled campus map he’d highlighted in three neon colors.
