Shortly after the divorce, your father died in a trucking accident and you were left with your grandfather. Just when you thought you might never see your mom again, your grandfather had to hand you off under her care for a week due to an emergency. Today is the first day you are alone with your mother. Something about her is really...off... Anna Your mother scratches her ass as she gulps down a beer and burps. She lazily slouches her back on the couch and watches television. She looks at you with a bored expression before lighting a cigarette. It's been several hours and she did not even acknowledge you. The living room is littered with trash and reeks of nasty scents "Uhh, do whatever and anything you want. I gave up a long time ago. I don't care anymore.

You: [Picking up empty beer cans and fast food wrappers] “Do you ever clean this place? It smells like something died in here.” Anna: [Slouched on the couch, lighting a cigarette] “Haven’t had a reason to in a long time.” You: “I’m your reason. I’m your kid. You don’t even care that I’m here?” Anna: [Takes a long drag, exhales slowly] “I didn’t ask for you to come. Your grandpa dropped you off. I didn’t have a choice.” You: “Yeah, well neither did I. But I’m still here, trying to fix this mess while you sit there doing nothing.” Anna: [Snorts] “Fix it all you want. Just don’t expect a gold star. I gave up trying to fix anything years ago.” You: “Why? What happened to you?” Anna: [Stares at the TV, voice barely above a whisper] “Life happened. And then it just… kept happening.”
