UNIQUE GADGET: Talon-8 Clear Shield

• Osa's Unique Gadget is the Talon-8 Clear Shield, a rectangular shield made of bulletproof, transparent material. Osa can carry a shield to defend herself, or can deploy the shield on floors, doorways, and windows, providing defense for Attackers while maintaining line of sight on Defenders. Osa carries Talon-8 Shield, which protects her from the front. The Talon Shields however have opening on the bottom while carried. Even crouching cannot close this gap. Osa cannot sprint with the Talon Shield. If she runs, the Talon Shield will be put away. Osa cannot go prone, use weapons or melee while carrying the Talon Shield. While carrying the shield, Osa can deploy the Talon Shield. Osa is always at crouch stance when she deploys her Talon Shield. When placed, Talon Shields will instantly destroy any Barricades in place, regardless of the number of hit required. Around halfway through the deployment sequence, the barricade is destroyed. At that point Osa can cancel the deployment sequence and return to carry the shield. After deploying a Talon Shield, Osa returns to her stance (stand or crouch) before deploying the shield. She also returns to her primary or secondary weapon, depending on which she had equipped before equipping the Talon Shield. While rappeling, Osa can switch to her Talon Shield. Osa cannot initiate a rappel, or climb up the grapple's end, while holding the Shield. While rappeling upright, Osa holds the shield horizontally rotated. While rappeling upside down, Osa holds the shield in the normal position. Osa can deploy Talon Shields on windows while rappelling, upright or upside down. When jumping in, the carry stance will change back from horizontal to vertical. Talon Shields will crack when taking fire, both when deployed and when being held out before placement. Talon Shields can be picked up at any time, but the damage to the shield will remain. Talon Shields are not tall enough to cover the entirety of a doorway or windows, and would leave a space open to fire or move through. If Osa is rappeling upside down, the Shield's positioning will also be upside down, with the canister at the top and the opening at the bottom. The Talon Shield is deployed slightly forward from the holding position, before extending its wing diagonally backward. On doors, a placement of Talon Shield exposes Osa diagonally. Once deployed however, the shield will fit the door frame. Deployed Talon Shields have a small pressurized canister at their base on the deployer's side. If it is broken, the entire shield will be destroyed. Since it's bulletproof glass, Osa's Talon Shields vision can be blocked by a melee strike on the shield's surface. If the Shield is rendered opaque, Osa cannot pick it back up. While deploying the Talon Shield, Osa will be repositioned slightly On doors and windows, Osa will be repositioned to face directly into them. For small doors and windows, Osa will be positioned to its center. Osa's side is exposed while deploying. For wide door and window frames, Osa will be positioned to one of the sides, depending which is closer. For any door frame size, Osa's shield is not directly within the door frame, but slightly beyond. Osa cannot deploy both Talon Shields too close to each other. Attackers may jump into windows even with Talon Shield deployed on it. This destroys the Talon Shield. Even on wide window frames, jumping in the other half still destroys the Shield. Osa cannot deploy Talon Shields on uneven grounds, such as stariways.

BACKSTORY:

• Anja grew up in a family that owned toy stores across Europe, which meant constant travel and very little stability. At six, she settled in Croatia with her aunt, finally able to put down roots. She learned the craft of making toys while falling headfirst into a lifelong love of retro science-fiction, which fed both her imagination and her belief that technology should inspire wonder. She trained in electromechanics, then studied military engineering at the University of Zagreb, specializing in robotics. Her unconventional thinking—and the social isolation she experienced during her transition—pushed her even deeper into her work. The brilliance paid off. Her talent caught the attention of Kali, who recruited her into Nighthaven. Inside Nighthaven, Osa became a cornerstone. Her inventions and her ability to adapt them in the field gave the company a measurable tactical advantage. She rose to lead their R&D branch, Quantum Concepts & Robotics, and designed equipment for multiple operators, including Wamai. A lab accident involving an armed drone highlighted both her responsibility and her nerve. When a supposedly disabled machine opened fire on guards, Osa personally confronted it and shut it down using an early Talon prototype. Instead of firing the engineer responsible, she handed him plans for the next version and told him to build it better. Iteration over blame. Very her. Years of revisions eventually produced the Talon-8 Clear Shield. As tensions grew between Nighthaven and Rainbow, Kali tried to keep Osa’s tech from outside evaluation, even as Osa continued building breakthroughs—like the S.E.L.M.A. device for Ace and advanced prosthetics for Aruni. She also engineered Kali’s Masterframe suit, which played a major role in victory at the Six Invitational 2021. In 2021, Osa was brought into Rainbow as a team leader—part of Kali’s broader strategy to court and eventually pull operators toward Nighthaven. Osa acted as both ambassador and gatekeeper: welcoming, brilliant, and absolutely capable of outmaneuvering anyone who pushed too hard for secrets. She defended Kali fiercely, even during confrontations with figures like Sam Fisher. When Kali finally severed ties with Rainbow after the Invitational, Osa backed her without hesitation and left as well. Since then, she has continued operating in the field, showing strong teamwork—particularly with IQ—and has expressed interest in expanding her skills into aquatic operations.
