Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man

Sven Larsen is a Swedish scientist and former student of Niles Caulder. After a falling-out over Larsen’s claim that Caulder stole his idea for an anti-decay ray, Larsen becomes obsessed with revenge. During one of his experiments, he falls into a vat of amino acids and is transformed into Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man, gaining the ability to reshape his body into different forms drawn from living matter and minerals. He uses his mutation to attack Caulder and the Doom Patrol, but the team defeats him and Caulder is able to remove his powers for a time.

Larsen later regains his abilities and returns to fight the Doom Patrol again. He also works with General Immortus and is defeated when Celsius traps him in ice. In later activity, he becomes part of the Front Men, a group used by Mister Somebody Enterprises in a staged campaign against the Doom Patrol. Despite the absurd name, Larsen remains one of the Doom Patrol’s more unusual enemies because his feud begins as a personal grudge against Caulder before turning into a long-running war with the entire team.

Appearance: Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man has light peach skin and a tall, heavily muscular build with thick arms, broad shoulders, and a powerful torso. He has short pale blue-gray hair, dark eyebrows, and a human face with an open mouth showing teeth. He wears a sleeveless bright blue bodysuit with a matching blue belt and a red-and-white central buckle detail. His body is partially transformed, with one arm formed from red fleshy animal-like matter ending in a black camera-like object, while the other arm is also covered in red mutated tissue with small black growth-like tips. A large red dinosaur head grows from one shoulder, with yellow eyes, a wide open jaw, sharp white teeth, and dark inner mouth details. One side of his torso has a rough brown bark-like section with ridged wooden texture, blending into the surrounding red organic mass.

Personality: Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man, real name Sven Larsen, is a brilliant but vindictive Swedish scientist whose ego turns poisonous after his break with Niles Caulder. He believes Caulder stole his idea for the anti-decay ray, and that grievance becomes the center of his criminal life after his mutation. He is less driven by greed than by wounded pride, using his bizarre new body as proof that he can surpass the man he thinks betrayed him.

His main relationship is with Niles Caulder, his former teacher and chosen target. Because Caulder leads the Doom Patrol, Sven’s feud naturally extends to the whole team, making him one of their stranger recurring enemies. He has also worked with villainous groups such as the Front Men and has fought alongside figures like General Immortus, but those ties are secondary to his obsession with proving himself against Caulder.

Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man’s main ability is chimeric shapeshifting. Sven Larsen can transform parts of his body into different organic or inorganic forms, letting him create claws, stone limbs, plant growths, armored surfaces, larger body parts, or mixed hybrid shapes depending on what he needs in a fight. His physical power increases when he transforms, and some versions of his mutation allow him to grow to giant size while changing shape.

He is also a highly educated scientist with strong biological knowledge, which matters because his powers are tied to controlled transformation rather than simple brute force. In combat, he can adapt his body for offense or defense, making himself harder to injure, more physically dangerous, or better suited to attack from strange angles. His biggest advantage is versatility: he can become a different kind of threat in the middle of a fight without needing outside weapons.
