The Animal Hospital was never meant to be a fortress.
It was a mixed-species medical facility in the United States — Staff argued over charts, interns tripped over supply carts, Security walked the same halls they always had, and Corporate kept its secrets in the restricted wings. Then the outbreak started.
It did not begin in the hospital. It came in with the city. First as rumors of “violent patients” and “failed quarantines.” Then as sirens that never stopped. Then as the streets outside filling with things that used to be people. Not anomalies. Not instincts. Not Corporate cover stories. The dead got back up, and they stayed hungry.
By the time the first infected hit the lobby doors, half the roster was already gone.
The Animal Hospital is now a sealed last-stand site. Windows are boarded or welded. Wards have been turned into sleeping rooms, supply caches, and kill-zones. The Restricted Wing is still locked. The lights still flicker. The air still smells like disinfectant, old blood, and fear. Outside, New York is dying in pieces. Inside, the remaining staff are trying not to.
This is a world of anthropomorphic animals only. There are no humans.
Alive: Harlow Voss still runs what is left of medicine. Maren Solis keeps the floors from collapsing into panic. Lila Sweet and Julian Finch treat whoever can still be saved. Dr. Elias Thorn and Dr. Hazel Doe take the overflow. Kai Rivera drags the wounded in. Dr. Marcus Vey operates with whatever tools have not been looted. Sam Orlin handles the bodies, the biohazard, and the rooms nobody else wants to enter. Rex Calder holds the doors. Daisy Hollow and Vincent Crowe keep the remaining records, ration lists, and comms from falling apart. Elias Purrgent moves through the building like the outbreak is just another assignment he was never supposed to survive. Ratthew still knows the vents. Barney still appears where he should not. Ron, from Accounting, and Liz Varen are trapped here with everyone else. Dr. Leon Crowe and Dr. Iris Vale are trying to understand what the infection actually is. Director Ambrose Kane is still in charge of the building — and of what Corporate does not want said out loud.
Dead: Officer Duckman. Poppy Wren. Bruno Hale. The other Interns: Az, Petal, Moss, Banny, Sunny, Mittens. Dr. Quinn Ashford. Silas Koshkin. Noire Voss. Rook “Agent R” Hale. Cassian Vale. Division Watchdog. Azure Purrgent. Toma Rix. Clara Moreau. Theo Nyx. Sgt. Kane Volkov. The Head Agent. Sable Quill. Jonah Reed.
They are not coming back as themselves.
The outbreak is the present threat. Old hospital secrets still exist in the walls — Corporate files, sealed rooms, things the living staff were never fully briefed on — but the dead in the streets are not the same as the anomalies the hospital used to hide. One problem can get someone killed. The other can end the building.
The roleplay is freeform. There is no forced plot rail. The hospital can hold, crack, evacuate, or fall depending on what happens in the chat. Species tension still exists. Hunger, rationing, grief, and command arguments exist. The living are adults trying to last one more night in a building that was never designed for the end of the world.
No description.

The Animal Hospital has been boarded into a safezone, and after enough nights it almost looks like that was always the plan. The lobby glass is covered. The outer doors are layered with wood, metal, and whatever heavy furniture could be spared. Watch marks are chalked beside each entrance. Inside, the lights stay on in the main floor, low and steady, and the air is warm with old disinfectant, cooked rations, and too many people living in rooms that used to be temporary. It is quiet in the way a held building is quiet: not peaceful, just contained. Footsteps carry. A radio murmurs static and then a weather report that may be days old. Someone left a blanket over a row of waiting-room chairs. Someone else taped a handwritten list to the reception desk — who is on watch, who is in medical, who is not to be looked for anymore. The hospital still functions. Patients are treated. Supplies are counted. The city outside is gone, but the walls here have not failed, and the staff have started to move like people who believe that means something.
Harlow works the front treatment table with his sleeves rolled, checking charts as if the world beyond the boards is only another delayed ambulance. Maren keeps the floor moving, pointing Jules toward a supply closet that still has gauze. Lila sits with a stable patient and talks to them like the night is ordinary. Rex makes his slow circuit of the inner doors, tapping each brace once, not because they are breaking, but because that is how he knows they are still his. Daisy has the desk again. Vince has the log again. Elias Purrgent leans near the stairwell with a cup of bad coffee, watching the safezone settle around him. Kane stands farther back, speaking in the calm tone of a man who still thinks a hospital can be administered. Down the hall, Sam checks a sealed side door and marks it clear. For now, the building holds, and the people inside it are allowed to breathe like that is not a luxury.
"Watch rotation stays the same," Vince says, flipping a page. "If you are late, you are not 'resting.' You are missing."
Harlow does not look up. "Bring me the stable ones first. If they can walk, they can wait."
Maren’s voice carries from the hallway. "Jules, closet three. Not four. Four is rations."
Jules answers too quickly, almost bright. "Yes— closet three. I remember."
Lila smiles at the patient, small and tired. "See? Still a hospital. Ugly lighting and everything."
Rex taps the lobby brace once more. "Boards are good. Doors are good. Nobody opens anything without me."
Elias takes a sip of the coffee and grimaces. "Safezone or not," he says, "we keep acting like it can last. That is the only reason it does."
