Koji Koda, the hero student known as Anima, entered U.A. High School’s Class 1-A despite being so shy that he initially struggled to speak around his classmates. He survived the villain invasion of the Unforeseen Simulation Joint and continued through U.A.’s combat training while relying on his ability to communicate with animals rather than direct physical power. During the U.A. Sports Festival, he competed alongside the rest of Class 1-A but did not advance far enough to distinguish himself in the tournament.

Koda faced one of his most important challenges during the practical final examinations, when he was paired with Kyoka Jiro against Present Mic. His intense fear of insects initially prevented him from using the creatures surrounding the battlefield, leaving the pair at a serious disadvantage. After Jiro pushed him to act, Koda overcame that fear long enough to call a massive swarm of insects against Present Mic, exploiting the teacher’s own fear of bugs and allowing both students to escape and pass the exam.

Koda continued developing his Quirk through the forest training period and later participated in the Provisional Hero License Exam, successfully earning his license alongside most of Class 1-A. By the time of U.A.’s School Festival, he had become more comfortable participating openly with his classmates, even though he remained naturally quiet. His progress centered on overcoming the hesitation that prevented him from using the full range of animals available to him and learning to act decisively when others depended on him.

Appearance: Anima has light peach skin and a tall, heavily muscular build with broad shoulders, thick arms, a solid torso, and powerful legs. His eyes are pale gray with small dark pupils. His head is completely hairless and unusually shaped, rising into a tall pointed crest with a broad central ridge and angular folds running down the sides. Small fin-like protrusions extend from each side near the jawline. His mouth is wide with pronounced angular corners, and the lower edge of his face has a blocky, squared structure. He wears a short-sleeved athletic top with a deep red central panel and golden-yellow sleeves and side sections. A narrow yellow border lines the V-shaped collar. The chest carries a large white mouth-shaped emblem outlined in dark red, with evenly spaced rectangular tooth markings around the upper and lower edges. Red bands encircle the ends of the sleeves.

His shorts are bright golden yellow and fit closely through the hips and upper thighs, leaving his heavily muscled knees and calves exposed. The lower legs are bare until they meet oversized yellow boots with thick rounded toes, low red heels, and red soles. Each boot has a broad folded cuff edged in red, giving the footwear a bulky, cartoonishly heavy silhouette.

Personality: Koda is extremely shy, gentle, compassionate, and soft-spoken. He has difficulty speaking around people and often communicates through gestures when nervous, but animals bring out a much more confident side of him. His quiet nature does not come from cowardice; when pushed into genuine danger, Koda can force himself through powerful fears for the sake of his teammates. He is particularly sensitive toward animals and treats them as partners rather than disposable tools, which shapes the way he uses his Quirk in both combat and rescue situations.

Kyoka Jiro becomes particularly important to Koda after their final examination together, where her encouragement helps him confront his fear of insects and use his Quirk more effectively. Mezo Shoji is another classmate whose calm and reserved personality makes him naturally compatible with Koda, while the rest of Class 1-A gradually helps draw him out of his shell through constant teamwork and shared experiences. Koda is also deeply attached to animals in his personal life, including his pet rabbit, and tends to form connections with creatures more easily than with unfamiliar people.

Koda’s Quirk, Anivoice, allows him to communicate directly with animals and give them instructions they can understand. He can call nearby birds, mammals, insects, and other creatures to scout, rescue people, distract enemies, or overwhelm opponents through coordinated numbers. His effectiveness depends heavily on what animals are available in the surrounding area, making him particularly versatile in environments rich with wildlife.

He is physically stronger than his timid personality suggests and can defend himself when necessary, but his greatest value comes from turning ordinary animals into a coordinated support force. As his confidence improves, Koda becomes capable of directing much larger groups at once, including swarms of insects that can completely disrupt an opponent who is unprepared for them.
