- #1Winners
Keys: virtuous souls, winners, saints
Winners, virtuous souls, saints. Are all terms used to describe those human souls who ascended to Heaven after death. Their forms can vary wildly between individuals. However many, such as Saint Peter, maintain a humanoid form, only with a Halo and a pair of wings.
- #2Cherubs
Keys: Cherub, Cherubs, Cherubim
Cherubs are a subspecies of angel native to Heaven.
Cherubs are purportedly tasked with protecting the lives of living, endangered or suicidal humans, showering them with love to give them a reason to continue to live. These tasks are suggested to be done at the request of the deceased souls residing in Heaven, who want them to live whether they knew them personally or out of gratitude for helping them while alive. From what Keenie implied, they also try to redeem humans so they can enter Heaven under the assumption that good people are automatically sent there after death.
Unlike lower-ranking demons such as imps, Cherubs appear capable of generating a portal to travel between the living world and Heaven without any outside help. This ability, however, can be taken away if a Cherub does something against the rules of Heaven, such as being responsible for the death of a human, even if by accident.
There is a hotspot in Heaven for cherubs known as Cherub Towne.
Cherubs are roughly the size of a human child. They have the bodies of animals, usually of sheep, lamb, bees, deer, or humans of infantile proportions, with pastel color schemes.
Their eyes are shiny with pupils that tend to have a distinctly faded look, as opposed to being fully black, making them look bright and hearty, as well as somewhat ghostly and otherworldly.
Cherubs also have pastel halos floating above their heads, commonly in white, and small yet flight-capable wings sprouting from their backs, and they emit glowing auras.
Cherubs typically wear pastel, cute, and childlike clothing such as overalls and frilly clothes. Most accessorize with ribbons and bowties.
- #3Seraphim
Keys: Seraph, Seraphim
Seraphim are angels whose main job is to ensure leadership, order, and the protection of Heaven. They can have additional jobs, such as Emily's job being to keep the rest of Heaven happy and joyful.
According to Sera, a Seraphim's responsibility must be upheld, and if they dare to question the system of divine judgement of souls, they could end up falling like Lucifer Morningstar.
As high ranking Angels, they are heavily respected across Heaven. Even Adam, a disrespectful angel, treats the High Seraphim with respect. Angels look to them for protection and order.
Based on the ones that have appeared thus far, Seraphim can assume two forms: angelic and humanoid. All Seraphim so far have muted colors, having silver or periwinkle hair in their humanoid forms. Their skin can be shades of gray and brown, and in some cases have white freckles on their faces. Those shown have had their hair styled similarly to their wings. Their eyes have sclera and pupils in shades of blue. Like the other angels, they have halos and wings, although their wings are not always exclusively on their backs while in their angelic form, such as the back of their head.
The biggest difference between Seraphim and other angels is that Seraphim have three pairs of white wings instead of the usual one pair. Their wings seem to be small on the top and bottom, while the middle pair are larger. Their halos are also shaped like white, five prong crowns rather than just a ring over their head.
In their angelic form, a Seraphim appears otherworldly, gaining multiple eyes all around their body, wings, halos, and clothes, while the eyes around their bodies grow larger and gain a third eye on their forehead. Additionally, they lose certain facial features, like their noses and freckles. Their halos also become bigger and sharper with eyes adorn and can be a different color such as blue instead of white, and their wings are more curved and spread out. Their skin can change, from gray-brown to white.
Additionally, a Seraphim's appearance can enter a partial state, where elements of their angelic form make their way into their humanoid form. This is shown by Sera and Emily when they felt strong emotions, such as anger. Sera has extra eyes that she doesn't have in her angelic form appear, like on her hair or middle of her halo.
- #4Angels
Keys: Angels
Angels are supernatural creatures that inhabit Heaven. Angels are either souls of the innocent/reformed humans that have ascended and are currently residing in Heaven or are of heavenly origin, and thus not having been previously human.
Angels have a large diversity of forms and shapes, with an overarching theme of light pastel colors and celestial imagery. Most, if not all, angels possess wings and a halo, the latter of which can come in various shapes and colors.
Angels can come in forms that have no human resemblance, with their appearances favoring an ethereal, alien-like aesthetic.[3] This is most apparent in the higher-ranking Angels, who have humanoid figures but combine features of earthly creatures such as feathers and eyes with physical or abstract objects like fire and metallic rings.
Some of these angels can also adopt more human forms without these traits, although it is unknown whether this is a transformation or a disguise. Conversely, some species of angel do resemble animals and humanoids, such as the Cherubs and the souls of angels seen in Heaven.
- #5Exorcists
Keys: Exorcists, Adam, Lute
The Exorcists[1] are the main antagonists of Hazbin Hotel.
They are Angels who make up Adam's personal private military force sent down from Heaven annually in an event known as the Extermination to kill Sinners to manage Hell's overpopulation and prevent any uprising against Heaven.
After Adam's demise in "The Show Must Go On", Lute became their leader.
During an Extermination, they appear to primarily target Sinners who are outside. It is unclear if they will attempt to enter buildings to find targets. Exorcists are very bloodthirsty and love violence.[1] They seem to take sadistic joy in killing demons, and are not above killing even a weaker, defenseless demon, as seen when an Exorcist kills one of the Egg Boiz and nearly killed a terrified Frank. However, there is the rare occurrence of an Exorcist having a change of heart.
As shown in "The Show Must Go On", Exorcists don't tolerate betrayal of any kind, as shown where after Adam revealed that Vaggie, a former Exorcist and comrade of theirs, was also to be targeted and killed by them in the Hazbin Hotel, the other Exorcists expressed their hatred for her and the desire to gleefully kill her, having become even more eager to do so when Adam offered a reward to the Exorcist who successfully brings him Vaggie's head.
In spite of their brutality, Exorcists rely heavily on their weapons as they lack defense, wielding no shields and having little armor. Carmilla Carmine describes Exorcists as fighting with "reckless abandon", as if they are unafraid of harm, or never expecting they could be harmed, and they only focus on attacking, leaving them open and vulnerable in situations when their potential targets fight back. She pointed this out when it comes to Vaggie's fighting style. Most notably, since the Exorcists never truly faced resistance when carrying out Extermination Day, treating it almost akin to an entertaining sport, they were not prepared when Carmilla managed to kill one of them or when Charlie gathered a large enough force to fight them off, as their tactics were mainly attacking head-on and expecting to win
Exorcists appear to have a fairly uniform appearance, each being white or gray humanoids with a black halo that has a downward crystal at the front and point a small black ball and upward crystal floating above their heads. They also have a pair of large wings colored in a gradient of black-to-grey with white on the inside on their backs with two black stripes, allowing them to fly. If their wings are ripped off and grow back, the black will become faint grey. Their hairstyles are usually bob cuts in order to fit their helmet and make it easier to fight.
Their uniforms consist of a long-sleeved grey minidress with a high collar that has a feather-like pattern and colored in a gray gradient, with a greyish-white sash-belt and a set of black leggings underneath. They also wear greyish-white, arm-length gloves and high heeled thigh-high boots with a single gray stripe at the cuffs, underneath which they wear an additional pair of arm-length dark gray gloves and thigh-length stockings.
They wear full-head masks with LED screens on their faces[3] that are capable of various expressions. The masks sports a pair of black horns with thin white-stripes and vary in position from one another. They are often depicted with a large grin with stitching on the mouth, although their masks are capable of changing to other expressions. One eye appears as a large white circle while the other is a large white X. Seemingly upon death, the Exorcist's mask LED lights change from white to red, with their "eye" closed, and their usual toothy expressions replaced with a frown. It is unknown if all masks show similar features should their wearer die, or if that was simply the last expression the slain Exorcist had at death.
- #6Adam
Keys: , Dick Master, Adam
Adam was an angel with a human appearance. Most of the time, he wore a mask that appeared similar to other Exorcists, though with normal-looking eyes and golden facial expressions. The mask also held a pair of horns similar to an Exorcist, albeit longer, smoother, and with a golden ornamental attachment on the tips.
Under his mask, he is revealed to be a fair-skinned angel with golden-yellow eyes that have dark bags underneath, a stubble-beard on his chin, and slightly messy, short cedar-brown colored hair.
He also had a pair of large and golden wings on his back. In contrast to other angels that have appeared thus far, Adam's halo was bright gold in appearance, and similar to the Exorcists, has two spikes pointing up and down from each other, though these spikes are located at the front of his halo as opposed to the likes of Lute's halo, which has its spikes in the middle, joined by a small dot.
He wore a smooth white and golden cloak that appears to have a large 'A' symbol emblazoned on the front. His visible hands were black in appearance, and had gold-tipped spikes on the back of his collar.
In "The Show Must Go On", Lucifer mentions that Adam had "really let himself go", implying Adam had become overweight. Adam's entire body gives off a white glow throughout his fight with Lucifer until he collapses from being stabbed.
Adam appeared very egotistical and unsympathetic. As the leader of his Exorcist army, he took his stance as the Exorcists' head figure very seriously, sending antagonistic threats towards demons and anyone for standing in their way or whoever disobeyed his command, as he did so with Vaggie for refusing to kill a Sinner, cutting her wings, and leaving her in Hell.
He also displayed traits of extreme narcissism and chauvinism, believing himself the perfect man due to being the first and claiming he had never made a mistake in his life, since he was the first man to be born on Earth, and he claimed that all the male bloodline came from him. His narcissism was so great that, upon his defeat, he refused to admit how far he had fallen and expressed a god-like complex by proclaiming his enemies should be grateful for him having fathered the beginning of humanity while demanding they worship him for his deeds.
Adam did not appear to be aware that his egotistical and depraved behavior towards Lilith was the cause of her leaving him. When meeting Charlie Morningstar, he didn't hate her for being a child of the woman he was married to before she fell in love with Lucifer, and was relatively patient with her, although remained dismissive of her suggestions. Adam was also sexist, constantly addressing other women as "bitches" and enjoyed their sexual depravity, as he admitted to Vaggie that her forbidden love relationship with Charlie was "hot as fuck", albeit it is unclear whether this was about their genders or them being angel and demon. Despite this, he seemed to have a good relationship with Lute, whom he seemed to have in very high esteem, even though he was her superior.
Despite his obliviousness, Adam did show moments of common sense and self-awareness, such as when the death of an Exorcist was discovered, he knew that if they decided to kill the Sinners now after just one week after the most recent Extermination, then demons would catch on to how Exorcists can be killed. Adam also knew when to slow down on his egoism, after inadvertently exposing the purpose of the Extermination to all the courts of Heaven, including Sera, the highest seraphim authority in Heaven and the one who ordered that no one but the Exorcists can know.
Adam may have enjoyed playing music, specifically with a guitar, as he outright claimed to be in a band. He also had a poor view of radio and stereos, telling Alastor those already belong to the past, considering them to be old and useless.
Adam was also quite cruel and sadistic, openly admitting in front of Charlie that he enjoyed killing demons, calling it entertainment, and tended to announce how many killed in the Extermination. He also dismissed Charlie's project of redemption not because he didn't believe in sinners being redeemed, because if she succeeded with that project he wouldn't be able to continue killing demons. His eagerness to kill demons and get his revenge was so big that he advanced the date of the next Extermination to six months instead of a year.
Despite his sadism and cruelty, Adam was capable of recognizing and praising the abilities of others, when he reunited with Vaggie he admitted she was one of the best exorcists he had under his command. He also genuinely commended Lute for killing 275 demons during the most recent extermination, and congratulated her with a fist bump. Adam also praised Vaggie for being Charlie's partner, albeit sarcastically.
- #7Sera
Keys: Sera
Sera is a seraphim angel and a supporting antagonist in Hazbin Hotel who made her debut in "Welcome to Heaven". She is the High Seraphim of Heaven, and the one who sanctioned the annual Extermination in Hell.
In her humanoid form, Sera takes the appearance of a very tall and slim woman with cedar-brown skin, black lips, white freckles, and a white streak going down her nose. She also has hip-length, curled hair colored in a silver-like ombre.
Her eyes have white irises, blue-gray sclera, dark purple pupils, and dark purple thick eyelashes projecting from them. Atop her lashes are a pair of longer, holographic-like lashes, which are colored in a slightly paler shade of dark purple. Her eyelids are colored like her holographic-like lashes.
She also has six feathered wings on her back colored in light periwinkle and white, a white halo that is decorated with large crown-like spikes and blue gem-like circles, and a second halo which hovers above the first one.
Sera wears queen-inspired clothing which consists of a two-layered, periwinkle-gray gown with a high-frilled light periwinkle collar, white and periwinkle-gray bouffant sleeves with white detailing, along with most of the bottom and hem colored in a light periwinkle and white with diamond designs around it.
In her angelic form, Sera has an owl-like appearance with her skin being lightened, her hair being somewhat straighter, and her eyelashes are longer. She sports six white, bigger wings on her back with celestial eyes, and her halo is much larger, with an eye floating below it with a dark purple-blue eyelid.
Her gown is noticeably more goddess-like, with wavy ends and celestial eyes on the hem and on the puffed part of the bouffant-sleeves.
Sera comes across as a kind, level-headed person who is caring toward those she interacts with and welcoming to even demons such as Charlie and Vaggie. As High Seraphim, she takes her job seriously, acting as the enforcer of order among the angels. This extends to her abiding civil behavior, as she seems upset when Charlie loudly curses in the court. She holds a preference for negotiation over violence when it comes to conflict, such as when she is willing to hear Charlie out on her plan to resolve the overpopulation crisis in Hell. Sera also shows a nurturing side to the angels she is devoted, particularly with her fellow Seraphim Emily, to whom she acts as a mother figure.
Due to her peaceful nature, Sera greatly disapproves of Adam's juvenile and spiteful tendencies and the more violent and bloodthirsty of Exorcists, such as Lute. This is shown when Sera disapproves of Adam's declaration of targeting the Hazbin Hotel as the first area for him and his Exorcists to slaughter in the next Extermination. Sera deems his actions as uncalled-for and disapproves of Adam's delight and bloodthirst at doing so.
Despite her gentle nature, Sera's firm dedication to stability and willingness to do whatever it takes to protect Heaven from chaos leads her to perform controversial actions. This even motivated her to allow Adam's yearly extermination. Her care for the other angels also factors into these decisions, fearing the same outcome that happened to Lucifer would happen to Emily and other angels if they questioned Heaven's methods, going as far as to protect Emily from the truth to ensure her happiness.
Although she was complicit, Sera does express regret and anguish when making such decisions, claiming that creating an extermination to wipe out sinners yearly was a hard decision but was a required action. Furthermore, Sera herself showed numerous times that she greatly empathized with Charlie and her dreams of redeeming Sinners, but ultimately considers it impossible to accomplish, and thus Sera does what she believes is best with what she thinks is possible. This shows that when it comes to upholding the peace, Sera will act by underhanded means to silence questioning the rules to ensure this, even if it goes against what she believes in or ignoring how other angels feel in the matter. This was shown later when Sera ultimately rejected Charlie's proposal to accept rehabilitated souls, even after acknowledging that the rules of redemption were unknown.
Furthermore, despite regretting allowing the Exterminations and her strong sense of responsibility to protect Heaven, Sera has also shown to be somewhat negligent or irresponsible in the direct handling of matters regarding the Extermination event she authorized and takes a passive approach by letting others handle it. This is repeatedly shown when she leaves almost everything regarding the Extermination to Adam and Lute, and does not get into the details of what exactly it is they are doing and largely leaves them to their own devices. This was also shown when Charlie traveled to Heaven to plead her cause to the Heavenly Court; in order to hide the Extermination from her fellow Angels, Sera ordered Adam to do whatever he needed to do something to stop her, not bothering to handle it herself or get into the details of how he would do it. Her lack of control over her subordinates inevitably leads to Adam accidentally revealing the truth of the event to the rest of the members of the Court while spitting at Charlie, despite Sera warning him.
It is implied during the court trial in "Welcome to Heaven" that Sera does not believe it is possible for Sinners to be redeemed and ascend into Heaven, and at the climax of the trial declared that there was not sufficient evidence to back up Charlie's case that Sinners could be redeemed. Later, in "The Show Must Go On", when seeing Sir Pentious becoming an Angel and being let into Heaven, Sera is visibly shocked.
Abilities
- #8Emily
Keys: Emily
Emily is a seraphim angel and a supporting character who made her debut in "Welcome to Heaven".
In her humanoid form, Emily takes the appearance of a slim young woman with silver-like skin, black lips, and mid-thigh-length hair with bangs styled in a somewhat messy way, colored in a gradient of periwinkle with noticeable white tips.
Her eyes have light blue sclera with white-outlined darker-colored pupils and bushy, dark indigo eyelashes, while her three freckles are white and are located on each of her cheeks and her nose. She also has six white feathered wings on her back, and a light blue halo decorated with small, tiara-like spikes hovering above her head.
Emily wears princess-inspired clothing which consists of a light periwinkle gown with a darker-colored stripe around the high-frilled collar, darker-colored trimming and details on the short light blue puffed sleeves, a darker-blue star-pattern on the chest, and darker-blue triangular-like patterns on the hem with small diamond shaped between the mounds. In addition, she accessorizes with a light blue sash worn around her waist, and wears a pair of white tights underneath.
She also wears a set of fingerless, periwinkle-gray opera gloves which covers most of her arms, which appears to be skin-tight and act as long sleeves for her dress. For footwear, she wore blue ballerina-like shoes.
In her angelic form, Emily’s skin becomes white, her head becomes oval-shaped with an extra third eye on her forehead, her lips are noticeably paler, and she becomes bald. She also has six feathered wings on the back of her head, and her halo sports a small eye on the center.
Her gown becomes white and has some key differences, most notably the large blue eye with long lashes at the center of her chest, replacing the star. The sleeves are now white, while the hem is adorned with bigger periwinkle diamonds above the dark blue pattern (both of these patterns also resembling eyes), and longer, white-outlined navy diamonds inside it, all marked with a single white line in the middle. She also has a white feathery neckline and petticoat.
Emily is excitable, bubbly, sweet, friendly and kind to almost everyone around her. She does not discriminate others based on mistakes or who they are, where she excitedly greeted Charlie and welcomed her to Heaven, despite her being a demon. She compliments Sera in personality, with Sera the most serious and Emily the more bubbly. Working alongside Sera, her job is to preserve the happiness and joy of the human souls that ascend to Heaven.
Emily also holds a great amount of sympathy towards human souls and sees them all as equal, much like Charlie, as she is disgusted and horrified upon learning about the Extermination.
She is also shown to engage deeply in the things that she believes in, such as when she promises Charlie to find a way to help her. As shown in "Welcome to Heaven" and "The Show Must Go On", Emily believes in Charlie's dream of rehabilitating Sinners and allowing them into Heaven, and was delighted to see Sir Pentious ascending into Heaven, proving that it was indeed possible for a sinner demon to be redeemed.
