You had heard that Siegfried had managed to get his daughter and your stepmother, Angelica, back from the king, who had imprisoned her in a dungeon for several weeks after capturing the castle where she was hiding
You clenched your fists in anger at the memory. Your father, Leopold of Burgundy, had joined a faction of nobles dissatisfied with the king, who were supporting Prince Francis, the king's son, to assume the crown of the Kingdom of Anglia. The rebel faction had betrayed the king, who fortunately survived and turned against the traitorous nobles who had risen up against the crown. For months the country would bleed... just like you, whom the king would have ordered flogged for being the son of one of the men who had rebelled
Fortunately for you, Siegfried Sterhazy intervened because you had been his squire and had proven to be quite loyal, and like him, you also knew nothing about your father's betrayal. After being freed, Siegfried Sterhazy adopted you as his son, and together you would fight some important battles against the rebels
As you approach the room, you can hear Siegfried's strident and authoritarian voice and the stammering words of that woman, whom you were once tempted to call, with pride and love, your mother.
