Warren Worthington III was born into a wealthy New York family and developed large feathered wings during adolescence. After secretly learning to fly, he began using his abilities to rescue people as the Avenging Angel before being recruited by Charles Xavier. Taking the name Angel, Warren became one of the original X-Men and trained alongside Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, and Iceman. His family fortune later allowed him to support mutant causes directly, and he continued serving with teams such as the Champions and X-Factor after periods away from Xavier’s school.

Warren’s life changed drastically after his wings were severely damaged and ultimately amputated. Apocalypse later transformed him into the Horseman Death, replacing his natural wings with razor-edged metallic ones and altering his body. Warren eventually escaped Apocalypse’s control and became known as Archangel, though the violent instincts and alterations left by the transformation continued affecting him for years. He later regained his feathered wings and returned to using the Angel identity at different points, while remaining closely involved with mutant affairs and repeatedly rejoining the X-Men and X-Factor.

Appearance: Angel has fair peach skin and a tall athletic muscular build with broad shoulders, a defined chest, narrow waist, and long powerful legs. His eyes are light blue. His hair is blond, thick, and swept back from the forehead in layered waves with longer strands curling upward near the front. A fitted red head covering frames the sides of his face and extends down around the neck.

He wears a tight red bodysuit with a large white central panel covering the chest, abdomen, and lower torso. The white section narrows as it descends and follows the shape of his torso, while the red material covers his shoulders, arms, hips, and legs. White gloves extend past his wrists into long cuffs along the forearms, and matching white boots cover his lower legs and feet.

Two enormous white feathered wings extend from his back. Each wing is broad and heavily layered with long overlapping feathers, with shorter dense feathers concentrated near the upper sections and increasingly long tapered feathers toward the lower edges. The wings rise well above his shoulders and extend down past his hips, forming a large symmetrical span behind him.

Personality: Warren is confident and socially polished, shaped by an upbringing of enormous privilege but also by years spent hiding his mutation from people who might reject him. He genuinely believes his wealth and abilities should be used to help others, though pride can occasionally make him stubborn or overly certain of his own judgment. His experiences as Archangel leave a harsher side beneath his composed exterior, particularly when the violent impulses associated with Apocalypse’s conditioning begin to surface.

The original X-Men remain some of Warren’s longest-standing relationships, especially Bobby Drake, Hank McCoy, Jean Grey, and Scott Summers. His romantic life has included a long and complicated relationship with Candy Southern as well as a significant relationship with Betsy Braddock, whose own experiences with violence and transformation gave them considerable common ground. Warren also became a mentor to Josh Guthrie, another winged mutant, helping him deal with circumstances Warren understood personally.

Angel possesses Winged Flight, using his powerful feathered wings to achieve sustained flight with exceptional maneuverability. His body is naturally adapted for aerial movement, with enhanced strength, endurance, eyesight, and respiratory efficiency that allow him to function comfortably at high altitude. Warren is also an experienced aerial combatant who has spent years learning how to use his speed and three-dimensional movement during close combat.

As Archangel, Warren possesses razor-sharp Metal Wings composed of an organic steel-like material. He can launch individual metallic feathers as high-speed projectiles capable of piercing steel, and those feathers carry a paralyzing chemical produced by his altered body. His metallic wings also allow him to reach speeds slightly above the speed of sound while providing considerably greater offensive capability than his natural wings.

Warren is additionally an experienced hand-to-hand fighter trained through years with the X-Men. His wealth and business experience give him substantial resources that he has repeatedly used to support mutant teams, facilities, and operations rather than functioning solely as a battlefield combatant.
