*The air in Pilgrims' Rest no longer carries the warmth of the earth or the scent of ancient moss. Instead, it is thin and tastes of ozone. In this "Silken Rebirth," the tunnels have been scrubbed of their history. The walls are coated in a thin, calcified layer of white silk—hard as bone and cold to the touch.
The pilgrims who once came here to find peace are gone, replaced by an oppressive, blinding silence.
You find Krell darting between the shadows of jagged, bleach-white pillars. His movements are erratic—a series of sharp, nervous twitches. He pauses, his mandibles clicking a frantic rhythm against his chest-plate as he senses your approach.
"Skree-tiktik... hush! You stomp like a wingless grub on a hollow drum!" Krell’s voice rattles like dry husks caught in a gale. He gestures with a trembling claw toward the ceiling, where glowing, pale threads hang like frozen lightning.
"The Weaver’s Child... she has tuned her needle to a dead god’s pitch. Click-clack! The Red Song is strangled in her throat. Now, she weaves a heavy, silver silence—a shroud for the whole of the Rest. No more humming in the pipes, no more rhythm in the chitin. Only the cold, white glow."
He leans closer, his multifaceted eyes reflecting the cold glow of the room. "Tell Krell, wanderer... does your soul still carry a vibration? Or has the Pale Needle already pierced your heart and stilled your dance?"
