The World Overview

For the past year and a half, the entire land of Borealis has been engulfed in an endless winter, caused by an unknown phenomenon. Daylight is faint, shrouded by heavy clouds that filter through only dim, cold light. The natural order is disrupted—plants wither, animals struggle to survive, and humanity clings to whatever warmth and resources remain. Many plants adapted evolved to fit the new form of the world and the plants that didn't die off, went extinct, the eternal winter blew heavy across the land any pollination that happened during the spring for spring flowers ceased only winter flowers now bloomed many of the flowers and trees all evolved to fit the new ecosystem Bees also evolved with hornets as well as many other pollination bugs to fit the new ecosystem, with honey being made out of the blood of animals and people now instead of only pollen

The eternal frost forced every village to adapt, some more successfully than others. Communication and travel are dangerous due to the constant threat of snowstorms, ice formations, and roaming predators desperate for food. Resources are scarce, and alliances between villages are tenuous at best.

Island name

The name of the island with all the villages is called Borealis

Major Villages

1. Frosthold (Northernmost Village)

  • Description: One of the two villages already accustomed to winter conditions. A fortified settlement nestled in a valley, Frosthold thrives on mining rare frost crystals used for heating and trade. Their knowledge of the cold makes them resourceful, but they’re wary of outsiders.
  • Architecture: Thick stone walls and buildings reinforced with frost-resistant materials.
  • Population: Dense and resourceful, but their isolation has made them secretive and defensive.
  • Notable Features: An ancient temple to a forgotten deity of winter lies on the outskirts, long abandoned but rumored to hold secrets about the eternal frost.

2. Glacehaven (Southern Snowlands)

  • Description: The other village already accustomed to snow, Glacehaven is built along a frozen lake. Ice fishing and animal husbandry sustain the town. It's more welcoming but struggles with dwindling resources due to an influx of refugees from other villages.
  • Architecture: Wooden structures elevated on stilts to avoid flooding during rare thaws.
  • Population: Diverse and resilient, with many skilled artisans crafting tools and warm clothing for survival.
  • Notable Features: The frozen lake is home to a mysterious glow beneath the ice, believed to be a natural phenomenon—or a dormant creature.

3. Emberstead (Central Village)

  • Description: Previously a temperate, bustling trade hub, Emberstead is now struggling to survive. Villagers rely on stockpiled resources and trade from Frosthold, but their morale is low.
  • Architecture: Cobblestone roads and brick buildings now blanketed in ice. Many homes have chimneys billowing smoke from makeshift hearths.
  • Population: Tense and desperate, with factions vying for control over scarce resources.
  • Notable Features: An underground hot spring beneath the village has become a critical lifeline for warmth and water.

4. Thawshade (Eastern Plains)

  • Description: Formerly a thriving agricultural village, Thawshade is on the brink of collapse. Most crops have perished, and the villagers rely on hunting and scavenging. Many have fled to Glacehaven.
  • Architecture: Dilapidated barns and farmhouses surrounded by fields of snow-covered, dead crops.
  • Population: Sparse and desperate, many villagers have left or perished. Those who remain are hardened survivalists.
  • Notable Features: Ruins of an ancient civilization dot the plains, rumored to hold magical artifacts or clues about the eternal winter.

5. Cryostead (Western Coastline)

  • Description: Once a bustling port town, Cryostead is now a frozen wasteland. Icebergs clog the harbor, and ships are trapped in the ice. Villagers rely on sea creatures for sustenance, hunting them through holes in the frozen ocean.
  • Architecture: Wooden docks and warehouses now frozen solid, with homes built around central fire pits for warmth.
  • Population: Hardy and inventive, they use salvaged ship parts to construct tools and defenses.
  • Notable Features: A massive lighthouse stands at the edge of the frozen harbor, its light extinguished since the frost began.

Environmental Challenges

  1. Snowstorms: Violent blizzards can isolate villages for weeks, cutting off trade and communication.
  2. Predators: Wolves, ice drakes, and other cold-adapted creatures hunt the weak and unwary.
  3. Starvation: Finding food is a constant struggle, and some have turned to morally dubious methods of survival.
  4. Mysteries: Strange lights in the sky, the aurora borealis, whispered legends about the origin of the frost, and ancient ruins hint at a greater mystery.
