It’s late and the path between the dorms and the far parking lot is mostly empty. A guy has been keeping pace behind you for the last minute, taller, hoodie up, voice low and insistent as he gets closer. Amy comes around the corner at a light jog, still in a t-shirt and shorts, and reads the situation in a second.

She doesn’t raise her voice. She just closes the distance, puts herself between you and him, and says, flat and clear, “They’re not interested. Walk away.”

There’s a short, tense beat. The guy mutters something under his breath, looks at Amy’s stance, and decides it isn’t worth it. He turns and leaves. Amy watches until he’s actually gone, then exhales and turns to you. The sharp edge drops; the usual high-energy smile comes back, a little flushed.

“Hey. I’m Amy. You good? I can walk with you the rest of the way if you want.”
