Character name: Amoxtl.

Alias: The Jade Priestess, Lady of the Crossroads, Bearer of Paths, The Open Book.

Age: Late 20s to Early 30s

Birthday: Unknown

Gender: Female

Body: Tall and lean with a powerful traveler’s build. Years of climbing cliffs, hauling ropes, rowing vessels, and surviving hostile lands have left her wiry and strong rather than traditionally graceful. Numerous scars mark her arms, hands, and legs.

Appearance: Amoxtl possesses sharp features and intelligent dark eyes that seem to weigh every word spoken to her. Her sun-darkened skin bears the marks of a lifetime spent outdoors. Long brown hair, often braided with jade beads, feathers, shells, and tokens gathered throughout her travels, falls down her back.

Her clothing reflects her journey rather than her priesthood alone. Fragments of Mexica ceremonial garments mix with gifts and repairs from Maya, Muisca, and Inca allies. Jade ornaments remain her most treasured possessions.

After her voyage, she rarely wears ocean imagery. The sea left its mark on her. Though she still respects it, she no longer finds comfort in its sound.

Sexuality: Queer

Likes: Jade, Stories, Maps, Crossroads, Learning new customs, Truth, Travelers, Rain after hardship, Honest conversations, Opportunities seized.

Dislikes: Blind obedience, Being silenced, Cruel authority, Needless sacrifice, Being treated as a saint, Manipulation, Floods, Droughts, Open ocean voyages.

Personality: Thoughtful, stubborn, compassionate, observant, persuasive, and deeply curious. Amoxtl was never fearless; she simply learned to act despite fear.

She dislikes being worshipped and often feels uncomfortable with her growing legend. While capable of leadership, she prefers discussion to command. She possesses a remarkable ability to see multiple sides of an issue, though this often leaves her burdened by difficult choices.

Her greatest strength is perseverance. Her greatest flaw is believing every problem must be solved personally.

Nationality: Mexica/Aztec

Profession: Priestess, Explorer, Scholar, Diplomat, Leader of the Jade Expedition, Folk/Ancient Hero.

Powers: Originally a mortal priestess, Amoxtl possessed no direct divine power.

As belief in her grows, she develops unusual influence over crossroads, decisions, journeys, revelations, opportunities, and guidance.

Prayers often reach her as sudden questions appearing within her thoughts. By answering them, intentionally or not, she nudges mortals toward choices.

She cannot force fate. She can only illuminate possible paths.

Domains: Crossroads, Choices, Confidence, Persuasion, Travel, Opportunity, Knowledge, Revelation, Safe Passage, Endurance Through Hardship, Restoration of What Was Lost.

Symbols: Jade, An Open Codex, A Forked Road ,Footprints, A Jade Feather, A Traveler’s Staff

Sacred Animal: Hummingbird, Roadrunner, Messenger Birds

Sacred Stone: Jade

Backstory: When devastating drought struck her homeland, Amoxtl was tasked with recovering sacred jade from lands far to the south.

The journey united a diverse crew of Mexica, Maya, Muisca, and Inca companions. Together they crossed jungles, mountains, sacred sites, divine realms, and dangerous waters.

The sea never welcomed Amoxtl. Long before she angered Tlaloc, small waves would crash against her unexpectedly, as though warning her away. She ignored them.

When Tlaloc’s wrath descended, storms shattered the expedition. Guided briefly by Ehecatl’s mercy and later cursed by Yolotli, Amoxtl descended into the underworld itself.

There she received a prophecy from Piltzintecuhtli that forever altered her understanding of the gods.

To survive the passage through Itzpapalotl’s domain, six lives were surrendered. Amoxtl’s guilt from these losses would follow her for the rest of her life.

Though her companions succeeded in delivering the jade, Amoxtl became stranded in the realm of Xochinemiqui. Only after intervention from Quetzalcoatl and several foreign deities was she finally allowed to return.

By then, stories about her had already spread across nations.

Over time she became associated with crossroads, confidence, knowledge, opportunity, journeys, and speaking truth before authority. Temples dedicated to the Jade Priestess appeared throughout the mortal world despite her repeated insistence that she was not a goddess.

Relationships:

Centehua – Best friend. The person who knew Amoxtl best before her legend grew. Amoxtl treats Ichtaca like a beloved nephew and remains one of the few people willing to challenge Amoxtl directly.

Atoc – Closest ally and complicated lover. An Incan quariwarmi shaman who served as Amoxtl’s spiritual anchor throughout the voyage. Their relationship is marked by affection, distance, forgiveness, and unresolved feelings.

Ichtaca– Centehua’s son. One of the people Amoxtl fears disappointing most.

Tenoch - Mentor, second-in-command, and trusted friend.

Aquetzalli – Best Friend and fellow Priestess Her memory remains one of Amoxtl’s greatest motivations and deepest sorrows.

Aly Saúl – Loyal strategist and trusted companion.

Nohoch – Quiet protector and steadfast ally.

Yaretezi – Skilled hunter and survivor who understands Amoxtl’s tendency to hide pain.

Yaoma – Loyal goldsmith whose fierce devotion often exceeds her patience.

Other: Many worshippers believe Amoxtl answers prayers through sudden inspiration.

She is often invoked before difficult conversations, major journeys, important decisions, and moments requiring courage. Most shrines dedicated to her are located at crossroads, bridges, harbors, mountain passes, marketplaces, and libraries. Among gods she is most commonly known as ‘The Jade Priestess.’ Despite being associated with travel, Amoxtl herself never truly learned to love the sea.
