Among Us is set on one of five locations; a spaceship, above-earth base, planet base, a Henry-Stickmin-themed Airship or a mysterious island referred to as The Fungle which contains a group of up to 15 crew members, among which are up to three Impostors who have to Sabotage and kill off the Crew. Crewmates have to complete their chosen tasks, report bodies of other Crewmates who are killed, and initiate emergency meetings if they witness another player doing something incriminating or suspicious to discover everyone's true identity. All tasks are mainly visual and provide a fine user-friendly interface for players of all levels and ages. Among Us is a murder mystery game that can take place either in a spaceship named "The Skeld," the headquarters of the company MIRA, a research base on the planet Polus, or an Airship. Among the players, one to three will be randomly chosen as Impostors, who need to blend in and kill the Crewmates. The Crewmates' goal is to complete tasks in the form of mini-games, such as fixing wiring, emptying garbage, or swiping an ID card, all the while having the goal of finding out who The Impostors are and voting them out. Impostors can Sabotage the map, which results in either a problem that will cause the Crew an inconvenience until fixed (e.g., turning off the lights, which affects the vision of the Crew, and messing up the Communications, which disables several useful features for the Crew); or even a severe problem which gives the Crew an important task that must be completed under a time limit (such as depletion of the oxygen aboard the ship or meltdown of the reactor inside). The Impostors' goal is to kill off enough Crewmates for an equal number of Impostors and Crewmates to be left, which results in a win for The Impostors as they theoretically could not be voted out. They can do this using the aforementioned sabotaging mechanic, though their main strategy is to directly murder every member one by one. Players can interact with various useful resources, such as a camera system, a sensors system, an administration panel, and a vitality machine, which can help crew members catch An Impostor killing a player, shapeshifting, or entering a vent. When a player finds a dead body, they can report it, which pauses the game and leads to a discussion where people can chat to find out who The Impostors are. Players can address evidence found with deaths and vote for a person they think is An Impostor. The player with the most votes will be ejected from the map, and the game will reveal if they were An Impostor (if Confirm Ejects is activated). Also, if players are unsure of who may be An Impostor, they can skip the vote. If the most votes are cast to skip, no one will be ejected. This also occurs when the number of votes toward two or more players is equal; that is, it is considered a tie. When a player dies, they will become a ghost, who can explore the map without colliding with the walls. However, they are not visible to the living Crew and can only be seen by other ghosts. Their communication system is limited, as they can only interact with other dead or ejected players, and they cannot resolve Sabotages. If they are a Crewmate, they can still complete tasks. In the same way, Impostor ghosts can still Sabotage to disrupt the Crewmates who are still alive. Before a game starts, players can configure certain game options, such as the number of Impostors, speed, map, and kill cooldown, among others. They can also customize their character with cosmetics, such as colors, skins, hats, and pets. The Skeld is the first map of Among Us, also becoming the only free map in the game before June 2020. The Skeld is set within a turtle-shaped spaceship, which the Crewmates used to travel around outer space. Crewmates must complete tasks on the ship and figure out who each Impostor is. MIRA HQ is the second map released in Among Us. Unlike the others, the map was released as paid content and is set on a sky base, rather than a spaceship. The map was officially announced on August 3, 2019, and was released to the public on August 8, 2019. Unlike The Skeld, Impostors and Engineers can freely roam around vents that are not adjacent to a specific vent. Polus is the third map of Among Us, announced on November 1, 2019, and released on November 12, 2019. It takes place in a research base on the rocky, purple planet of Polus. This map features similarities to both The Skeld and MIRA HQ while also having its features. Due to being a terrestrial planet, there are no ventilation systems on the planet, but rather holes. This map is also currently the second largest in Among Us. The Airship was announced by Innersloth on September 23, 2020, as part of the new content added to Among Us after its sequel's cancellation, Among Us 2. The map is based on the Toppat Clan Airship from Infiltrating the Airship, a Henry Stickmin game also developed by Innersloth. It is the fourth and largest map. It contains several new tasks and new mechanics in it, such as ladders and moving platforms. It is released on March 31, 2021. The Fungle was announced in the roadmap at Summer Game Fest.,[23] with a trailer releasing in 2023. The map is an island where the skeld has crashed in an unknown planet with a beach, jungle, and mountain. The map was released on October 24, 2023 and contains new mechanics such as the Zipline, Mushrooms, and Mushroom Mixup sabotage. When killed, you'll become a ghost. Ghosts have no collision (aside from the invisible wall at the edge of the map) and can freely travel through walls. They are invisible to both living Crewmates and Impostors but can be seen by other ghosts. They also have unlimited vision, which is not restricted by walls, the photo room in Main Hall on The Airship or Fix Lights. They are slightly faster than living players. Ghosts cannot assist during any Sabotages, such as Reactor Meltdown or Oxygen Depleted. However, the arrows will still point towards the Sabotage. Ghosts can see and use the chat simultaneously, even outside of emergency meetings. They can view messages from living players, though theirs can only be observed by other ghosts. This allows ghosts to chat with each other throughout the game, although ghosts cannot vote or kick other players during emergency meetings. They also cannot report bodies or use the emergency button. When the voting tablet pops up, it will have a crack on the screen. Ghost Crewmates can still complete their tasks. However, Submit Scan will not give a visual cue. This is most likely to prevent Impostors from pretending they are scanning and Crewmates from becoming confused. However, the name that appears when another person is already scanning will still be present. Ghost Impostors can Sabotage, but they cannot use vents or kill Crewmates. If the role is enabled in the lobby options, the first Crewmate to become a ghost will instead manifest as a Guardian Angel, who can temporarily Protect living players from being killed.*
There are many roles
Guardian Angel: The primary goal of the Guardian Angel is the same as a standard Crewmate. However, as a ghost, they must Protect their fellow Crewmates from being killed by An Impostor. If An Impostor tries to kill a protected Crewmate, a shield will appear and crack, preventing the Crewmate from being killed. As a ghost, the Guardian Angel has access to the Protect ability, which allows them to cast a protective shield around any living player for a limited time. The shield prevents Crewmates from being killed by Impostors. This ability replaces the Haunt ability that other ghosts can use by default, meaning Guardian Angels cannot use the Haunt ability. A Guardian Angel can use for a variety of interactions. The most common interaction is to activate and complete tasks. Use is in the bottom right corner of the screen, and can be replaced by Security, Admin, Vitals, or Doorlog when near the appropriate panel.
Scientist: Scientist is a role in Among Us, first shown during the Summer Game Fest. It is based on the Crewmate role with the added ability to view the Vitals interface from anywhere on the map. Scientists have a portable Vitals monitor that allows them to view the Vitals interface from anywhere on the map, including maps that otherwise do not have a stationary Vitals monitor, such as The Skeld and MIRA HQ. The portable Vitals monitor has a battery that drains upon use but recharges as the Scientist completes tasks or automatically recharges if they have completed all of their tasks.
Engineer: Engineer is a role in Among Us. It is based on the Crewmate role with the added ability to travel through vents. While usually an ability that is exclusive to Impostors, Engineers are also able to travel through vents. However, Engineers can only stay in a vent for a limited time and must wait for a period of time before they can use another vent. Engineers cannot travel through vents while Comms Sabotaged is active. Similar to Impostors, they also cannot enter a vent if the vent is being used for Clean Vent (however, this does not prevent the Engineer from using the vent system said vent is connected to).
Noisemaker: Noisemaker is a role in Among Us. It is based on the Crewmate role, but it sends out an alert when killed by An Impostor. Living Crewmates will see the alert and know where the body is, by a mark on their screen. A Noisemaker does not have any additional abilities except Crewmate abilities, but it has a special ability: when it gets killed by An Impostor, an alert will be sent, and an alert mark will appear on the players' screen. Notes for the ability are: Ghosts can see the alert; Impostors may or may not see the alert; The alert works even when comms are disabled.
Tracker: Tracker is a role in Among Us. It is for the Crewmates, and has an additional ability to track other players. They can track a player using their track ability when near another player for a limited amount of time, and they can see the location of their target on their map. The Track ability lets the Tracker track a player on their map, only when near a player. After tracking, a player icon will appear on the personal map, and the location of the target can be seen for a limited amount of time.
Even the imposters have roles
The Phantom: The Phantom is a role in Among Us, based on the Impostor role. Their primary goal is to kill enough Crewmates to win, but, along with the standard abilities that Impostors have access to, they have the additional abilities to Vanish and Appear. The Vanish ability lets the Phantom turn invisible for a certain amount of time. Notes about the Vanish ability: Other Impostors can see the Phantom while vanished; Ghosts can see the Phantom while vanished; Alive Crewmates cannot see the Phantom while vanished;Produces colored smoke; The color of the smoke is the same color as the color of the Phantom; Everyone can see the Phantom's smoke; Phantoms can use vanish during Mushroom Mixup; Phantoms cannot kill while vanished; Phantoms cannot fix Sabotages or open doors while vanished; Players can see vents the Phantom travels through open and close; Phantoms can still be tracked by Trackers.
Shapeshifter: The Shapeshifter is a role in Among Us. Added as a part of the roles and cosmicubes update, 2021.11.1. It is based on the Impostor role, and their primary goal remains the same: kill enough Crewmates to win. Along with the standard abilities that Impostors have access to, Shapeshifters have the additional ability to Shift (transform into other players for a limited duration of time.) The Shapeshifter has access to the Shift ability, which allows them to transform into any player that was alive at the beginning of the round, regardless of the role of the player. The Shapeshifter can pull up a menu of these players and select one to perfectly copy their appearance (name, color, cosmetics and even pets). An animation of the Shapeshifter inside a bubble of their original color is visible to other players while shifting. During discussion time, the Shapeshifter will appear as their original self. The disguise usually only lasts for a limited time and leaves evidence behind unless otherwise set in the game's options. On the map the Fungle, the player cannot shift during the Mushroom Mixup Sabotage.

You are a Crewmate. Your goal of a Crewmate is to complete all tasks without being killed by an Impostor or finding all Impostors and ejecting them. Crewmates who have been killed by an Impostor or ejected become ghosts and will have to spectate. You have the ability to report a dead body and bring the entire Crew and all Impostors into an emergency meeting to discuss who The Impostor may be. Impostors also have this ability. Good luck.

You are a Imposter. Your primary goal of The Impostor is to kill enough Crewmates to have an equal amount of Impostors and Crewmates before all tasks are completed. An Impostor can Sabotage, which creates a problem that Crewmates must either wait out, ignore, or fix. Impostors can fix their Sabotage, which may help them avoid suspicion. Impostors can hide in vents. Vents allow Impostors to either hide or quickly move around the map. The Impostor can use a vent when close enough to any one nearby. However, hiding in a vent pauses both kill and Sabotage cooldowns until The Impostor exits the vent. The Admin map can still detect Impostors hiding in a room's vents, so be careful about that. Try to kill all of the crewmates without being ejected or caught. Good luck.
