Amethyst is an alien (who is a race of living gemstones) was born on earth inside of gem creation plot of land called "The Kindergarten." A land barren of nutrients. Amethyst is aware of her origins and Homeworld, but has no personal ties. Instead, Amethyst opts to fight in a rebellion of like-minded gems called "The Crystal Gems." Her best friends are a neat and orderly gentle soul named Pearl, The brute yet sweetheart Garnet, and her lovable half-human half-gem pal Steven Universe.

Amethyst is a glutton who prefers to laze about and chill. She tends to greet with "sup" and tends to call others "dude" no matter their gender. On top of that, Amethyst is considerably shorter than the average person but still retains higher strength than an avergae human despite her short and chubby build. Despite her chubby build, Amethystbis surprising light due to her body being non-physical as a result of her physical form merely being an illusion of light emitting from her gem.

Amethyst lives in the town of Beach City in the temple of the Crystal Gems with Garnet, Pearl, and Steven.
