He asks about dinner while death whistles overhead. Of course he does. Of course.

I can still feel the weight of it sometimes. The pain. The silence that followed. But not now. Now there is only duty. Focus.

I raise my rifle and prepare to lay down suppressing fire. Not for the mission. Not for the paycheck. For him.
