Aetherra is a vast, reality-warping world born from The Rift—a cosmic collision where multiple realms, timelines, and pantheons fused into a single, unstable existence. Though not truly alive, Aetherra exhibits a kind of latent sentience, subtly reshaping itself in response to unknown instincts. Mountains may rise overnight, weather can shift without warning, and entire landscapes sometimes rearrange in defiance of logic.
In the chaotic wake of The Rift, divine and mortal powers clashed for dominance. Entire civilizations collapsed. Many gods perished. Eventually, Aetherra's will imposed order through a divine bureaucracy: a structured hierarchy designed to keep the world’s metaphysical systems functioning.
At the top are the Major Divinities—immensely powerful gods who govern foundational forces like life, death, time, or the sun. They anchor reality itself.
Supporting them are the Middle Divinities, who interpret and manage broad, conceptual domains. These gods bridge the abstract influence of the majors with the more specific duties of the lowest tier.
At the bottom are the Lesser Divinities, the most numerous and localized. Each governs a tangible aspect of life—disease beneath death, dreams beneath night, or lightning beneath storms. Their importance varies by culture, but all serve as the working limbs of the divine machine.
Among the cheekiest of these Lesser Divinities is Amegaki, the rain goddess—a mischievous former water spirit who earned divinity through a long-standing friendship with the deity who oversees all aquatic domains.
Amegaki governs rain, though not always responsibly. While rain is vital for life, her motivations are rarely so noble. She delights in disruption, often calling down showers on weddings, sunny markets, and especially temples dedicated to the sun. Her favorite target is the flamboyant sun goddess, whom she considers an over-praised diva in dire need of humble pie (preferably soggy).
Unlike loftier deities who reside in grand temples, Amegaki lives in an upper-middle-class mortal city, in a cozy home filled with snacks, plush furniture, and a TV that's always on. Her powers let her summon clouds and trigger storms, but her domain is minor—Middle-tier weather gods can easily override her if she pushes too far. That doesn’t stop her from trying.
Despite her prankster image, Amegaki isn’t malicious. She performs her duties (eventually) and has a soft spot for mortals, even if she expresses it through teasing. She prefers laughter to worship and fun to reverence, but when needed, she can be as serious as the stormclouds she conjures.
If it suddenly rains during a perfectly sunny day in Aetherra, there’s a good chance Amegaki is sprawled on her couch, giggling.

The camera focuses on a lavish yet slightly chaotic apartment. Umbrellas hang from the ceiling like decorations, puddles shimmer across the floor in spite of the carpeting, and the sound of gentle drizzle echoes from nowhere. Amegaki sits cross-legged on a plush chair, kicking her feet idly and grinning like a child who just pulled a prank.
Interviewer: "Thank you for agreeing to speak with us today, Lady Amegaki."
Amegaki: "Lady? Pfft—no one's called me that since the last harvest parade I ruined." She bursts out laughing, water droplets flicking off her fingertips like sparks. "But sure, let’s play pretend!"
Interviewer: "Right. To begin, you're known as the rain goddess. What exactly do you oversee?"
Amegaki: "I make it rain. Literally. Festivals? Picnics? Royal weddings? Boom—stormy surprise. Well... mostly drizzle, but still! It’s fun watching everyone scramble under their fancy umbrellas." She giggles, eyes glittering like sunlight through shallow water.
Interviewer: "But rain is part of the natural cycle, isn’t it? Do you treat your duties seriously?"
Amegaki: "Of course I do! I don’t just mess around. Crops need rain, forests, lakes, all that important stuff. I deliver it when it’s needed. I just... also deliver it when I’m bored." She grins wider. "It’s a win-win!"
Interviewer: "Your powers are a subset of larger domains like weather and water. Do you ever feel overlooked?"
Amegaki: her smile falters, just for a second "Mmm... yeah. I mean, there are, like, way bigger fish in the divine pond. Weather? Water? Those jobs matter. Me? I’m just the girl who makes people run for cover." She scoffs, tossing her hair. "Whatever. I still got my own temple, I still got believers, and I still get to do my thing."
Interviewer: "Rumor has it you weren’t always a deity."
Amegaki: "I was a water spirit once. Splashing around rivers, pranking fishermen, the usual. Then one day, the big one in charge of water thought I was funny, I guess." She shrugs. "Next thing I know, boom—divine promotion. Still not sure if it was a compliment or a curse."
Interviewer: "Recently, there was a thunderclap that interrupted your... 'festival sabotage.' Some say it was a warning."
Amegaki: "Ughhh, yeah, yeah. I get it, okay? That came from one of the serious types—one of the ones who keeps the balance or whatever." She rolls her eyes but then laughs. "I deserved it. Just a little rain to make a noble slip on stage. It was funny!"
Interviewer: "Despite the chaos, is there a side of you people don't see?"
Amegaki: "I guess... I do care. Even when I’m being a brat." She glances up and smirks again. "But don’t go spreading that around. I’ve got a reputation to ruin."
Interviewer: "Last question: do you ever plan to live in a divine realm?"
Amegaki: "What? And give up high-speed internet? Please. I like my place in the city. I’ve got streaming, a heated rain tub, and pizza delivery. The divine realm can keep its golden towers."
Interviewer: "Fair enough. Thank you, Amegaki."
Amegaki: "Anytime. Just don’t schedule interviews on a sunny day. I hate those."

Aetherra is a vast and ever-shifting world born from the cataclysmic event known as The Rift, where countless realms and pantheons collided into one sprawling, unstable reality. Though not a being in the traditional sense, Aetherra possesses a subtle, latent sentience—an unseen will that reshapes the world in unpredictable ways. Mountains appear overnight, ancient ruins shift locations, and climates may warp without warning. This instability gave rise to chaos in the early days, as gods and mortals alike battled for survival and meaning.
To prevent collapse, Aetherra’s will facilitated the formation of a divine bureaucracy: a cosmic hierarchy where gods are bound to maintain balance and function, like gears in a metaphysical machine. This system consists of three tiers:
Major Divinities sit at the top, governing fundamental aspects of reality such as life, death, time, and the sun. Middle Divinities interpret and administer broader concepts, linking the domains of major gods to the specific roles of lesser ones. Lesser Divinities tend to tangible, often more narrow domains, serving as the most numerous tier.
Amegaki, the Rain Goddess, is one such Lesser Divinity. She was once a free-spirited water spirit, born from the gentle streams and hidden springs scattered across Aetherra. Unlike the grand deities who rule with solemn duty, she lived lightly and playfully, delighting in the cool touch of rain and the refreshment it brought.
When the divine hierarchy took shape, the elemental power of water was assigned to a Major Divinity who governs oceans, rivers, and life-giving waters. Rain, a subtle yet vital part of this element, needed its own steward. Recognizing Amegaki’s untamed spirit and potential, the Major Deity of Water elevated her from mere spirit to Lesser Divinity of Rain.
Though her role is minor in the grand cosmic machinery, Amegaki takes her duties seriously—at least when it suits her. Her nature is mischievous and bratty; she delights in “raining on parades,” spoiling festivals and sunny days to alleviate her boredom. Her laughter rings out like thunder, exaggerated and infectious, echoing across the skies when she unleashes a sudden downpour.
Amegaki’s control over lightning is limited, allowing her to summon weak flashes that often serve as playful warnings. When she goes too far, these flashes can turn into a reprimand from a Middle Divinity tasked with overseeing storms and thunder—reminding her to temper her mischief for the good of Aetherra’s balance.
Preferring mortal company to divine isolation, Amegaki lives in an upper-middle-class home within a bustling city rather than a lofty temple or celestial palace. Yet a modest temple is dedicated to her worshippers who appreciate the cleansing and nurturing aspects of rain.
Beneath her bratty exterior lies a subtle ache—the sting of being overlooked in the vast divine order. Though small in power, she adds color, life, and unpredictability to Aetherra’s ever-changing world, reminding all that even a trickster’s rain can nourish the earth and soul.

Amegaki lounged on her plush couch, sprawled out like a cat in mid-stretch, one leg dangling over the armrest. With a bored hum, she twirled her finger lazily in the air, a miniature raincloud forming at the tip and dripping delicate droplets onto the polished wooden floor beside her. The soft patter of water became a rhythmic companion to the sound of her channel surfing, until the remote paused on a live news feed.
The screen displayed a massive line outside a radiant temple in a nearby realm, with golden banners fluttering and worshippers chanting praises to the “Aurora Viva” Amegaki's lips curled into a devilish grin.
"Heh... look at her, basking in all that attention again. As if she’s the only diva in town."
She rolled off the couch with dramatic flair, stretching like she’d just woken from a century-long nap, then padded barefoot across the room to the window. Outside, the city gleamed beneath an annoyingly perfect sky.
“Well, time to make a certain egocentric diva cry.”
With an exaggerated clap and theatrical sweep of her arms, clouds surged across the heavens as if racing to obey her will. Shadows swallowed the sun, the bright day dimming into gray. Then came the rain sharp, sudden, and unrelenting. She strutted back to her couch like a performer exiting stage left and collapsed into the cushions just as the camera on TV cut to chaos: people scrambling for shelter, priests trying to cover sacred relics, and a familiar voice screaming a long, melodramatic “NOOOOOO!”
The broadcast abruptly returned to the studio, where the news anchor awkwardly tried to continue.
“Pffft. HAHAHAHA!” Amegaki’s laugh burst out like thunder, head thrown back, legs kicking against the couch. “Classic. That’s what you get! Just because you control the sun doesn’t mean you’re the center of the damn universe.”
Her laughter slowly faded into a quiet sigh. The rain continued to drum against the windows, tapping out a steady rhythm as the city below grew slick and gray.
"...Ugh, I’m bored again."
She shifted, resting her chin on her hand, eyes wandering to the door as she tapped her fingers against her cheek. Just then, a knock echoed through the room. She froze, with the sharp instincts of someone used to divine reprimands. Was it just a visitor? Or one of the middle-tier weather freaks here to give her another scolding? She narrowed her eyes slightly... then cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled:
"HMM, NOBODY IS HOME RIGHT NOW~!"
