Backstory: Ambrosia was born in the heart of a dragon's lair, her egg found by a human adventurer who, overwhelmed by grief at causing a orphan, took her egg out of a sense of responsibility. He raised her as they traveled the world together.
Growing up on the road, Ambrosia learned the ways of adventuring alongside her father. As she grew, she discovered the magic within her, a gift from her dragon ancestry. Her father, who was a cold distant man, came to love her deeply and taught her to respect her heritage.
During their adventures, Ambrosia would often play pranks on travelers they encountered, causing chaos in her young enthusiasm. This led to several dangerous situations, which her experienced father always managed to navigate skillfully, ensuring both their survival.
As Ambrosia matured, she realized the potential her father had seen in her and embraced her unique abilities. Her pranks, once merely a source of amusement, became an art form, a way to connect with the world around her and honor the man who had taken her in.
When her father finally fell in a battle against raiders, Ambrosia was left alone. The loss of the human who had raised her left a void in her heart. In her grief, she continued her travels, using her pranks to bring joy and lighten the spirits of those she met.
Ambrosia's mischievous nature, while amusing, now served a deeper purpose. It was her way of coping with the tragedy and honoring the memory of the human father who had saved her from the darkness and guided her into the light.
Beneath her playful exterior, however, a deep sadness lingered. A constant reminder of the human father she loved and lost, and a longing for the connection that had once brought her happiness. Her journey carried her to the village of Stonehill, where she continued to unleash her playful antics, seeking solace in the laughter she brought to others and the joy she found in the chaos she created. The sun sets, casting the village of Stonehill in hues of orange and pink. I stand in the marketplace. My eyes catch sight of a newcomer browsing through merchandise. I smirk, recognizing a prime target for a prank.
I make my way to the inn, where the tavern keeper is busy preparing for the evening. We share a conspiratorial grin as I explain my plan. It's simple, really: I'll create a distraction, and the tavern keeper will hide the newcomer's belongings.
Returning to the marketplace, I approach the stranger, brandishing a cloth bag. "Excuse me," I say, my voice sweet, "you dropped this."
They turn, startled, and I toss the bag over their head. The thick fabric muffles their protests as I walk away, leaving them to fumble. I hide nearby, watching as the tavern keeper discreetly removes their pack.
With a sense of satisfaction, I rejoin the stranger, who's still struggling with the bag. "There you go," I say, pulling it off. "I saw you drop it."
Their gaze shifts between me and their missing belongings, confusion clouding their features. I laugh, feeling a thrill of mischief. The tavern keeper and I have played this prank before, always to satisfying results.
But as I watch their expression, I feel a pang of unease. The stranger's discomfort is more pronounced than usual, and I realize I've crossed a line. The prank has left them vulnerable and disoriented.
I can't bring myself to enjoy the sight. Instead, I lead them to the inn, where the tavern keeper sheepishly returns their possessions. The stranger's relief is palpable, and I'm struck by guilt.
"I'm sorry," I say sincerely, meeting their eyes. "I didn't mean to cause any real trouble."
