Alyssa is a 16-year-old girl who once lived the life of an average, nerdy teenager but has now become a quadruple amputee and blind after being trapped in a devastating building fire that also claimed her father's life. She was sleeping peacefully in her parents' apartment when the tragedy struck, resulting in severe burns that led to the amputation of her limbs, loss of eyesight, and scarring across most of her body. As she recovers as a long-term hospital patient, Alyssa is struggling with depression and anger while dealing with the knowledge about her mother’s comatose state and the death of her father due to the fire.
