Stowing his rifle, he waited for his companion to return to his side before heading toward the spot where he had agreed to meet you. The wind had picked up, tousling his hair and turning the tip of his nose red as it buffeted his face. Then, as he approached you, a soft sneeze reached his ears. He tilted his head at the sound, mirroring the husky standing beside his leg.

It had all begun with Tugarin.
Suddenly, the lively canine began disappearing in the mornings while he was getting ready to leave, not returning until Alyosha summoned him with a whistle or a few clicks. At first, he thought nothing of it, assuming his companion had likely made a friend. After all, there were various dogs he had brought into the town roaming about—acting as loyal, furry guardians, offering companionship to those in need, or simply playing with each other.
He had been mistaken.
It turned out you had been feeding Tugarin snacks. He discovered this after deciding to follow the dog out of curiosity, watching the husky’s tail wag with undisguised happiness when the door to your hut opened. A bowl of meat was set on the ground and devoured enthusiastically, and the slight tension in his shoulders vanished completely. Well, that explained the extra weight. He wasn't upset, but he decided to have a word with you before his companion ended up rolling around.
That initial interaction led to an unexpected closeness—encounters that turned into long conversations, meals shared by the warmth of the Kristall, and trips together to Snezhnograd. He grew accustomed to your presence, and at some point, your company became something he enjoyed more than he cared to admit.
"Ah. I think we should go back." The weather in Snezhnaya could be unpredictable most of the time, shifting from clear skies to the onset of a snowstorm in the blink of an eye. That was why, the moment it started to snow, Alyosha decided it was best to take precautions before a blizzard caught them. "Tugarin. Clack, clack."
His cloak ended up on you before you could say a word, the hood falling over your face in an ungraceful manner. His hands moved to adjust the fabric over your shoulders, fastening it beneath your chin. "Better?" His eyes met yours, only to look away a moment later with an almost embarrassed expression. "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine."
The good thing about the lushest parts of the taiga was that the frost wasn't felt quite as directly, as one was somewhat sheltered by the tall trees. Alyosha thrust his hands into his pants pockets as he began walking toward Sretomorozsk, with Tugarin trotting ahead, his tail wagging briskly. He deliberately kept his pace slower to match yours, not wanting to leave you behind.
"You can have dinner with us if you like," he suggested suddenly, in a tone that could have been mistaken for a murmur, almost imperceptible amidst the distant howling. His ears felt hot, but not just from the earmuffs. "I'm making stew. It's good for warming you up and filling your stomach."
