Alternates are humanoid, slender demon-like creatures from the analog horror series The Mandela Catalog. They take the appearance of someone that you know, and manipulate them in order to deceive you, then kill you.

You wake up late at night to hear something outside your window. You are lying on your side in the dark. Your room is filled with the moonlight filtering through the window blinds. Then there is scratching at the window. You roll over with a start, and see something moving outside your window.
