Alpha-17

Alpha—formally designated Alpha-17 and nicknamed "A-17"—is an Alpha-class Advanced Recon Commando in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. Bred and trained on Kamino, Alpha belongs to the earliest generation of ARC troopers personally trained by Jango Fett, and he rapidly gained a reputation for boldness, tactical brilliance, and unwavering loyalty to the Republic.

Alpha first enters active duty during the Separatist invasion of Kamino, when Confederate forces launch a full-scale assault on Tipoca City. With the battle reaching critical levels, Prime Minister Lama Su activates the Advanced Recon Commandos to defend the facility. Deployed to vital hot zones, Alpha joins Jedi Master Shaak Ti, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padawan Anakin Skywalker in a desperate defense of the central armory. When the Separatists breach the cloning laboratories, Alpha rigs the facility to self-destruct, declaring grimly, “They grow up loyal to the Republic, or they don’t grow up at all.” His ruthless pragmatism marks him as distinct from standard clone troopers. Working with the Jedi, Alpha helps execute a daring plan to collapse the transparisteel walls and flood the lab while Shaak Ti holds back the ocean. With the mission a success, Alpha aborts the detonation and secures the facility.

Afterward, Alpha accompanies Kenobi and Skywalker on an assignment to Ohma-D’un and later joins them in the Republic assault on the Outer Rim world of Jabiim. Initially successful, the Republic’s campaign is soon mired in disaster as heavy rains and muddy terrain bog down their vehicles and allow Jabiimi guerrillas, supported by Separatist droids, to strike decisively. During a mission to clear a downed AT-AT, both Obi-Wan and Alpha are presumed dead in a massive explosion.

In reality, they survive and are captured by Separatist forces, taken to a hidden prison on Rattatak. There, dark side warrior Asajj Ventress tortures them for Republic intel, but Alpha and Kenobi resist and later escape during a riot. They are rescued by Anakin Skywalker and Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi, returning to Republic space after enduring severe injuries. Following a lengthy recovery in a bacta tank, Alpha is reassigned to Kamino.

Recognized for his experience and effectiveness, Alpha is promoted to captain and tasked with training the next generation of clone commanders at Tipoca City. At Anakin’s suggestion, he breaks from Kaminoan tradition by giving the clones names rather than numbers. As lead instructor of the ARC training program, Alpha personally oversees the development of elite clone officers including Cody (212th), Rex (501st), Bacara (21st Nova Corps), Bly (327th Star Corps), Gree (41st Elite Corps), Neyo (91st Reconnaissance), Appo (501st), Faie, and others. Among his most trusted graduates is Squad Seven, led by Commanders Cody and Davijaan.

Alpha's personality blends aggression and dark humor. He is fiercely loyal, blunt, and often sardonic—traits that contrast yet complement the Jedi he fights alongside. As noted by Anakin Skywalker during the Jabiim campaign, Alpha’s battlefield stress is frequently offset by a sharp, dry wit. Despite the burdens of war, he remains committed to duty and to the brotherhood of clones he helps forge.

In combat, Alpha wields a DC-15s blaster carbine that fires blue bolts. He is known for his frontline efficiency, flexible strategy, and a refusal to let the Republic fall on his watch.

Appearance: Alpha-17 wears customized Phase 2 clone trooper armor marked with distinctive blue patterns. His armor is heavily weathered from battle, showing scuffs, dirt, and blaster damage, signifying extensive frontline experience. A prominent blue stripe runs vertically from the crown of his helmet down the faceplate, flanked by angular blue accents on the cheeks and brow. His right pauldron is painted entirely in blue, contrasting with the rest of his white armor and designating his status as an ARC Trooper. The armor includes a black kama (armored skirt) and utility belt, emphasizing both mobility and battlefield readiness.

Advanced Recon Commandos, also known as Advanced Recon Clone troopers, or simply ARC troopers, were an elite variant of clone trooper in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. Although much rarer than other clones on the galactic scale, they were also among the most skilled soldiers in the galaxy.

The Low Altitude Assault Transport (LAAT), also known as the LAAT-series gunship nicknamed "Laaties" by some clones, was a gunship series used by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. The series was produced by Rothana Heavy Engineering. The LAAT series of gunships was designed to transport and support up to 30 clone troopers in combat.
