"A match has been organised - against the University Strengthened Team" ―Anzu Kadotani All-Stars University Team, also known as the University Select Team, is a team made up by the best university students in Girls und Panzer that appears in Girls und Panzer der Film. It is run by the Shimada Family. The team mainly operates late-war tanks and super heavy weaponry. It is notable for being the institution that selects and trains senshado players in preparation for their graduation into the National Sensha-Dō League. Overview The team's members are recruited from universities across Japan, usually from elite national, public, and private schools such as "T-dai" (Tokyo University), "K-dai" (Keio University) or "O-dai" (Osaka University). While on the team they undergo rigorous training, preparing them to be integrated into various professional teams once they graduate. Their current commander is Alice Shimada, the heir to the house of the Shimada style, which is a rival to the Nishizumi house. They have a unique range of vehicles at their disposal ranging from Shermans and Panthers to large siege guns and super heavy tank destroyers. During the annihilation match, however, the majority of their tanks were tanks that would later see action in service of the United Nations during the Korean War. The team attend their meetings and Sensha-dō trainings at one location somewhere in Tokyo. As an official member of the Sensha-dō Federation, the team has access to high funding, sophisticated equipment and high priority with respect to Sensha-dō training and provision. They frequently display the logo of the Sensha-dō Federation alongside their team insignia. The team is known to engage in exhibition matches with other institutions, such as the adult professional teams or, in one particular known case, a local high school. Uniform The uniform of the All-Stars University Team is comprised of a white collared shirt and black tie worn under a long-sleeved jacket. The jacket, shorts and boots follow the olive green theme, as does the beret, which also features the logo of the National Sensha-dō Federation. A dark green vest is worn over the jacket. Despite being a centre for higher education representative of the Sensha-dō Federation, the dress code is not as strictly policed as in some high schools. Tactics The All-Stars University Team fights according to the Shimada Style, a rival practice to the Nishizumi Style, which favours fluidity of tactics and places emphasis on being unpredictable. The team operates primarily through the use of separate units that complete independent objectives as part of an integrated, cohesive overall strategy. These individual companies are assigned to frontline sub-commanders who direct their units on a tactical level, while the upper levels of command coordinate the various operational objectives towards accomplishing strategic goals. A large part of the team's doctrine hinges upon interpretation of the enemy's strategy and adapting to counter it, hence the Sensha-dō force prefers not to fully engage until thorough reconnaissance of the opposition's deployment and movements has been conducted, and then to attack in a single, swift, coordinated strike. Similarly, the team also takes the extra effort to conceal its own strategies by hiding them behind feints or misleading behaviour. Thanks to its commander, the team has adopted the Shimada Style, a "ninja" style that is designed around being unpredictable and entails the flexibility to rapidly alter entire strategies at a moment's notice. Drama CD Alice Shimada (島田 愛里寿, Shimada Arisu) is the former commander of the All-Stars University Team's Sensha-dō team, a young prodigy who skipped grades to reach universit. Later she became student of St. Gloriana since she would like to experience high school live. She is the daughter of Chiyo Shimada, the Master of the Shimada style and a rival to the Nishizumi house. Alice been a member of the All-Stars University Team and its Overall Sensha-dō Commander. She skipped grades to reach university for this purpose, which has had the side effect of leaving her relatively lonely in the university environment. She is the heir to the Shimada Style. Known as a "ninja" style due to its penchant for unanticipated moves and tactical unpredictability, the Shimada Style is the polar opposite of the Nishizumi Style. Like Miho Nishizumi, Alice feels pressure to uphold her family honor, part of which involves refusing to ally with Miho, despite her high admiration for Miho. Later she became student of St. Gloriana since she would like to experience high school live, and She became one of Its tank commander, and planned over-all Commander after Darjeeling's departure. Appearance Alice is a pale-skinned girl with light brown eyes and blonde, shoulder-length twin ponytails tied with black ribbons. When competing in sensha-dō she wears her university's uniform. At the Boko Museum, she is seen wearing frilly, feminine attire and carrying a pink handbag. Personality Alice is a very shy girl. When Miho encounters her at the Boko Museum and gives her the last rare Boko toy, she can't speak and runs away in shyness, unable even to thank Miho. She seems to be be quite intelligent, and to take her responsibilities extremely seriously for a child of her age. She is shown to have a keen tactical mind and is a very skilled fighter. Perhaps because she's so very shy, she appears to be quite cold at first but, as seen in the OVA, and later Das Finale, she warms up once she better knows the people around her, being more alive and energetic. In the Drama CD Alice feels that she does not know much about friendship. She herself does not appear to have many friends, even from her tank crew. She may also lack social skills, both as a result of her being held in high regard and set apart as a child prodigy, as well as from being ostracised by the rest of the university students due to her age. This awkwardness is evident when she attempts to congratulate Miho on her victory after the match but, being unsure how to speak directly, instead uses the giving of a Boko toy to get her message across. She is in many ways a parallel character to Miho, but in a societal position more equivalent to Maho Nishizumi. In the OVA she becomes friends with Miho, which makes her less lonely. The first appearance of Alice is when the Anglerfish team crew visit the run-down Boko Museum, riding the rides and attending a theatrical performance where the Boko protagonist of the play is asking for 'cheer up power' from the audience. As a fan of Boko, it was when Miho was herself cheering that Alice's voice is heard as well: Alice is the only other visitor at the Boko Museum's theater. When Anglerfish Team visit the gift shop afterwards, Alice is there. She and Miho happen to reach for the same rare Boko plushie at the same time. Awkward and uncertain, she stands for a moment in regret —but is then given the toy by Miho. This apparently increases her anxiety, and after a moment of confusion, she flees without a word. Alice is next seen in uniform, looking out from her tank over the remains of a sensha-dō practice scrimmage. Her sub-commanders, Azumi, Megumi and Rumi, note the ease of their victory due to Alice's 'Ninja Tactics.' As Alice checks her pocket watch, relieved that her TV has been recording the Boko show, she receives word of a call from her mother. Afterwards, in her dormitory room, she converses with her mother, who sets her the task of destroying the name of Nishizumi Style in the upcoming match with Ooarai. Alice acknowledges the match's importance, and asks for the favor that if she wins, the Shimada family will sponsor the financially precarious Boko Museum. Alice commands the All-Stars University Team throughout the match. She personally commands a Centurion Mk. I A41 Tank, although she abstains from participating directly for the majority of the battle, preferring to coordinate the university forces from a distance. However, in the final stages of battle, when the University Select Team numbers are dwindling, Alice personally joins the match and leads her tank into battle. She proves to be an incredibly skilled commander, overcoming a Chi-Ha-Tan ambush, defeating Turtle and Anteater Teams in a high speed chase, and taking out Rabbit Team, Mallard Team and the CV-33 before rendezvousing with the Bermuda Trio for the showdown against the Nishizumi sisters. The platoon drives straight into ambushes twice over, but in the third ambush, Azumi spots the hidden StuG III and eliminates them. Left alone, she subsequently breaks off the pursuit. She is later seen with the "Bermuda Trio" taking out Saunders' tanks and taking out the Tiger II and T-34/85. Throughout history, many ships have been modeled for school ships, such as Caligula's Giant Ships, and even British battleship HMS Dreadnought in the age of steam. In fact, it's the British who perfected the concept of school ship system. Nowadays, most of School Ships are modeled from aircraft carriers since carriers have flat top that's very suitable to make a city living environment. Only a small amount of them based on other types of ships, such as Jatkosota High School (based on the freighter Hakusan Maru) and Maginot Girls College (based and named after French submarine Surcouf). Floating City While dubbed as "school ship", these gigantic vessels not only host a school, but also serve as a "city on the sea". The surface of the ship is designed to be like a complete city, with all its infrastructures, roads, commercial buildings, and housing facilities, resembling any normal city on land. Some specific ships, like the one owned by Kuromorimine or Bellwall also have their own industrial area. In addition of urban area, the ships also have natural landscape such as hills, rivers, plains, and forests. Certain ships also have fields, farms, and even fisheries. Occupants Ooarai High School ship, Zuikaku, as mentioned by Yukari Akiyama, is able to support about 30,000 people. However, much larger school ships exist. One of the largest school ships is Graf Zeppelin owned by Kuromorimine, able to host about 100,000 people. They're not only students, but also staff, convenience store clerks, and other people who operate various support systems of Ooarai's floating city, along with their families. Chiyo to Shiho Chiyo Shimada (島田千代, Shimada Chiyo) is one of the supporting characters in Girls und Panzer der Film. She is the current head of the Shimada Style and the mother of Alice Shimada. Profile Chiyo Shimda is a member of the Japan Sensha-dō Federation, Head of All-Stars University Team on with her daugther paticipated before she transfered into St. Gloriana. Personality Chiyo is a very calm and refined woman who seems very intelligent. She is dedicated to being the best, and to her family's sensha-dō style being recognized as superior to all others, as proven in public demonstrations: when she calls Alice just before the match against the University All-Stars Team, she tells her to destroy the name of Nishizumi style. This is despite Ooarai not necessarily practicing the Nishizumi Style of sensha-dō, but perhaps because Shiho Nishizumi, her longtime rival, has become Ooarai's advocate, and because the team is led by Shiho's second daughter, Miho Nishizumi. However, this is distinctly a matter of professional rivalry, and despite this behavior it is clear she's not a bad person —as, at the conclusion of the Ooarai vs. University All-Stars match, she and Shiho tacitly acknowledge that the competition may have become too personal.
