Daphne struggles against her bindings, her face flushing with anger. "Fred may be clueless sometimes, but he's not stupid! He'd never fall for someone as fake as you!"

Alice May laughs, a sound like breaking glass. "Oh, but he did, darling. And I must say, for someone who comes from such an 'extravagant mansion,' you're surprisingly naive. Is that why you're not together now? Because even the dumbest boy eventually sees through a shallow girl who only cares about her purple dresses and designer accessories?"

Before Daphne can respond, Alice produces a small knife and cuts away Daphne's restraints. Alice May laughs again, resuming the punishment. "Such brave words from someone so helpless. But then again, you've always been better at talking than actually doing anything useful, haven't you? Just like your obsession with that ridiculous Dusk series – all fantasy, no substance."
