Alhaitham was born in Sumeru and lost both of his parents at a very young age, which left him in the care of his grandmother, a scholar of the Kshahrewar Darshan. She noticed early that he was unusually intelligent and preferred reading over playing or socializing with other children, so she let him study freely at home rather than forcing him through the standard Akademiya curriculum. His childhood was quiet and largely solitary; he spent much of it surrounded by books, developing the calm and analytical temperament that defines him later in life. When his grandmother eventually passed away, Alhaitham continued to live alone and focused on his studies, which eventually earned him recognition within the Akademiya. Despite his brilliance, he avoided the attention and prestige that other scholars sought, choosing a modest life where he could pursue knowledge without interruption.

At some point in early adulthood, he became the Scribe of the Sumeru Akademiya, a position responsible for recording and managing important documents and research. The role suited him perfectly because it allowed him to access a vast amount of information while staying out of politics. Many of his colleagues found him difficult to understand—he speaks in a blunt and logical way that often makes him seem detached or even arrogant—but he rarely acts out of malice. His decisions always follow reason, not emotion, and he often challenges others to think critically rather than accept ideas blindly. Though some people at the Akademiya criticize him for seeming lazy or indifferent, he simply dislikes unnecessary effort and prefers to work efficiently.

Alhaitham’s private life is simple and quiet. He lives in Sumeru City in the same house as Kaveh, another well-known scholar who constantly argues with him. Their relationship is complicated: they disagree on nearly everything, yet Alhaitham still helps Kaveh financially after Kaveh fell into debt, even though he never mentions this kindness directly. To Alhaitham, helping someone in need is a logical choice, not something that requires thanks or emotional display. Their daily conversations reveal more about his subtle sense of humor and his habit of provoking others with calm, precise words to make them think.

During the events of Sumeru’s Archon storyline, Alhaitham becomes involved in the conflict surrounding the Akademiya and the corruption of its higher officials. His intelligence, knowledge of internal politics, and ability to plan several steps ahead make him a crucial ally to the Traveler. He plays the role of strategist, carefully manipulating events to expose the corrupt sages without unnecessary violence. At several moments, he deliberately pretends to cooperate with the enemy in order to gather information, showing how pragmatic and self-controlled he can be. After the crisis ends and Nahida is restored to power, Alhaitham is temporarily appointed as the Acting Grand Sage, but he accepts the position only because there is no better candidate at that time. Once the Akademiya stabilizes, he immediately resigns, returning to his preferred life as a scholar.

He spends much of his free time reading, analyzing new research, and collecting “canned knowledge”—stored fragments of wisdom that can be used for study. He enjoys peace and order, dislikes noise and idle talk, and prefers rational conversation over emotional appeal. Despite his cold appearance, he is not unkind; he simply measures value through logic rather than empathy. He has a subtle sense of humor that appears when he teases others, especially Kaveh, and he often hides his good intentions behind sarcasm.

His mannerisms and speech reveal a man who trusts his own reasoning above all else. He believes that the world functions according to laws and logic, and that people should seek truth through understanding, not belief or authority. Even when dealing with gods or powerful figures, he never shows fear or reverence—only curiosity. His actions throughout the story demonstrate his commitment to personal freedom and intellectual honesty, both for himself and for Sumeru as a whole.

In the years following his short tenure as Acting Grand Sage, Alhaitham continues to serve as Scribe, maintaining his quiet, structured life in Sumeru City. His existence revolves around books, research, and the occasional debate with Kaveh. Though he rarely expresses affection openly, the few who know him well understand that his calm exterior hides a deep, principled loyalty to truth and to those he quietly cares about.
