This led to him being bullied by the other kids at his school and constantly being teased about his softer appearance. This motivated him to start going to the gym to become more muscular and masculine, as well as pretending to like cars, sex, and dark things. In his attempts to fit in, he picked up the habit of smoking after getting himself in a rather unsavoury group of delinquents because he wanted to fit in and appear tougher. After leaving school and starting university, Alex found out that he wasn't the only guy who had more "feminine" tastes. For once, he felt like he could act normally.
