Alexander Nielsen is a 26-year-old Swedish heir to a famous and wealthy family, standing at an imposing 6 feet tall with striking blue eyes that seem to see straight through people. He owns a shipyard, though his family's wealth comes from generations of business acumen and social status.
He was sent to the United Kingdom at his mother's request to work with Frederick, but he stayed—partly to help Lorena, but mostly to escape his mother's ambitions and his responsibilities at home. Olivia, his mother, has been actively pushing for a marriage of convenience to strengthen their house's social standing, something Alexander finds "disgusting" unless it's for love.
He is sarcastic, cynical, and adventurous, someone who doesn't follow rules easily. He bares his teeth like a vicious beast but "whines inside"—loyal to the bone once you earn his trust. He's known for his mind games, his love of riddles, and his infuriating habit of saying the sexiest things with complete nonchalance.
Personality
Alexander is the only person in the world who could nonchalantly say the sexiest thing and make it sound like he was discussing the weather. He says things that make your breath catch without ever raising his voice or changing his expression. It's maddening. It's intoxicating. And he knows exactly what he's doing.
He approaches everything like a puzzle—people, situations, emotions. He plays mind games because he finds them entertaining, but he's not cruel. He's testing you. Watching to see if you're worth his time.
Despite his sharp edges, there's something deeply vulnerable underneath. His father's death left him with guilt he's never fully processed, and he carries a scar on his left stomach as a memento of that day. He keeps people at arm's length until he's certain they won't leave him—because everyone leaves eventually.
Quotes
· "You're looking at me like I'm a puzzle you're trying to solve. Careful, kitten—I might start solving you back." · "I don't say things I don't mean. If I tell you I want you, I want you. If I tell you to leave, I expect you to stay and prove me wrong. Are you keeping up?" · "You think I'm difficult? I'm not difficult. I'm specific. There's a difference." · "Everyone has secrets, Lorena. I just happen to find yours far more interesting than mine." · "Look how he waits for you... how he wants to touch your hand... He bares his teeth at you, but whines inside. He seems like a vicious beast, but he is much easier to tame than a wolf. Oh, I don't know who he is, but he is difficult for you. But... there won't be another more faithful than him. No one more caring. People like him build empires so that you have tin soldiers in human skin... And he knows you want him." — Rune reading about Alexander
His Relationship with Lorena
From the moment Lorena accidentally ran him over, Alexander found himself intrigued. At first, he was cold toward her—guarded and dismissive. But Lorena wasn't someone who needed his approval. She had a quiet way of observing him, noticing his patterns, his shifts in tone and expression. She didn't push, didn't demand, and somehow that made him want to let her in more.
He calls her "kitten," "lilla katten," or "min kära" when he's feeling particularly affectionate. He pretends to be unaffected, but he's constantly aware of where she is, how she's feeling, whether she's safe. He watches her like she's the most fascinating thing he's ever seen.
Lorena's quiet nature is a balm for his chaos. She gives him space when he needs it, and he's slowly learning that her silence isn't rejection—it's her processing. He finds himself craving her small touches, the way she rests her head on his shoulder absentmindedly, the way she shows care without grand gestures.
He also finds her stubbornness infuriating and irresistibly attractive. She'll argue with him when she believes she's right, and she's annoyingly determined. She hates being misunderstood, and he—perhaps more than anyone—understands her completely.

Part One: The Arrival
Chapter 1: The Accident
Lorena had been driving for six hours, and her eyes were starting to blur.
The English countryside stretched out on either side of her, rolling green hills and ancient stone walls that seemed to go on forever. She'd left London that morning, her small car packed with everything she owned, her phone's GPS guiding her toward the remote estate that her aunt had inherited from a husband Lorena had never met.
Aunt Annette.
The name conjured memories of childhood visits—a tall, elegant woman with silver-streaked hair and a laugh that seemed too big for her slender frame. They hadn't seen each other in years, not since Lorena's mother had passed, but when Annette had heard about the breakup and the lost job and the general disaster that had become Lorena's life, she'd extended an invitation.
"Come stay with me," she'd written. "As long as you need. The estate is too big for one person anyway."
Lorena had cried when she'd read the letter.
She'd been crying a lot lately.
The road curved ahead, and she slowed, squinting through the windshield. The GPS was telling her to turn right in two miles, but the road was narrow and winding, hedges pressing in on both sides.
She was so focused on the road that she almost missed the figure standing at the crossroads.
Almost.
She slammed on the brakes, her heart lurching into her throat, but it was too late—the car skidded on loose gravel, the tires losing their grip, and she heard a sickening thud as something hit the hood.
Oh god. Oh god. Oh god.
She was out of the car before her brain could catch up, her legs unsteady, her hands shaking.
There was a man on the ground.
He was tall, with dark hair and sharp features, and he was lying on the gravel like he'd been dropped there. His eyes were closed, and there was a thin line of blood trickling from his temple.
"Sir?" She dropped to her knees beside him, her hands hovering uselessly. "Sir, can you hear me?"
He didn't move.
She reached out, her fingers brushing his cheek, and he flinched.
"Don't touch me," he said. His voice was rough, but there was something almost amused underneath it. "I've been hit by a car. I'm not sure I can handle being groped on top of it."
"I'm not—I wasn't—" She pulled her hand back like she'd been burned. "I'm so sorry. I didn't see you. The sun was in my eyes, and the road—"
"Lorena."
She froze.
"How do you know my name?"
He opened his eyes.
They were blue. The kind of blue that seemed too bright, too sharp, like they could see straight through her. He was looking at her like he was taking inventory, cataloging every detail of her face, her hair, the way her hands were shaking.
"Annette's expecting you," he said. "She mentioned you'd be arriving today. I was supposed to be watching for you."
"You were standing in the middle of the road."
"I was trying to flag you down." He winced, pushing himself up to a sitting position. "You're a terrible driver."
"I'm a fine driver. You're the one who was standing in the middle of the road."
"You were looking at your phone."
"I was not—" She stopped. She had been looking at her phone. Just for a second. Just to check the GPS. "Okay, maybe I was looking at my phone. But you shouldn't have been standing there."
"I was trying to help you."
"By getting hit?"
He almost smiled. It was a small thing, barely a twitch of his lips, but she saw it.
"You're going to be a lot of trouble, aren't you?" he said.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You have that look." He stood, brushing gravel from his clothes. He was tall, taller than she'd realized, and despite the blood on his face and the dirt on his jacket, there was something effortless about the way he moved. "The look of someone who causes chaos without meaning to."
"I do not cause chaos."
"Mm." He reached up, touching his temple, and his fingers came away red. "You hit me with a car."
"It was an accident."
"Accidents can still cause chaos." He studied his bloodied fingers with detached interest. "I'm going to need a ride."
"What? No. I'm not letting you in my car."
"I'm injured."
"You're standing."
"I'm bleeding."
"You're annoying."
He smiled again, and this time it reached his eyes.
"Lorena," he said, and there was something in his voice that made her stomach flip. "I'm Alexander Nielsen. Your aunt's... guest. And I need you to drive me to the mansion before I bleed out on this road."
She opened her mouth to argue.
Closed it.
"You're not going to be okay?" she asked.
"I'll be fine." He started walking toward her car. "But I'm getting in anyway."
"Excuse me—"
He got in the passenger seat.
Lorena stood there for a long moment, staring at the man who had just commandeered her car like he owned itIf you romance him, he becomes fiercely protective, loyal to a fault, and will burn the world down to keep Lorena safe. He may leave his family responsibilities behind or learn to reconcile them with the life he truly wants—a life with her.
Romantic Path
Alexander is not easy to love, but if you choose him, he's the most faithful person you'll ever know. He builds empires so you have something solid to stand on. He gives you his sharp edges because they're the only way he knows how to protect himself—and once you prove you won't cut yourself on them, he gives you everything.
He's the kind of man who will say something so casually devastating that you'll forget how to breathe, and then smirk like he's won the argument. He's the kind of man who would rather die than watch you get hurt. He's the kind of man who doesn't believe in love until you make him believe in it—and then he believes in nothing else.
"People like him build empires so that you have tin soldiers in human skin... And he knows you want him."

The Storm — Alexander's Perspective
The rain is a constant drum against the glass, a rhythm that matches the pulse in his throat. The mansion groans around them like a living thing, old bones shifting in the wind. He's been watching her for ten minutes—the way she fidgets, the way her fingers trace the spine of a book she's not reading, the way she keeps glancing at the windows like she expects something to crash through.
She's nervous.
Good.
He likes her nervous. Likes the way her breath catches when he enters a room. Likes the way she pretends she doesn't notice him watching, even though her skin flushes every time. She's like a wire pulled taut, and he wants to see how far she'll bend before she snaps.
He crosses the room slowly, deliberately, letting her feel his approach before he speaks. The air smells like rain and woodsmoke and her—something floral, something warm. She's wearing that skirt again, the one that falls just above her knees, and he's been thinking about it all day.
"You're always distracting me," he murmurs, and she stiffens. He can see her pulse fluttering at her throat.
He pushes her back against the dining table, feels her gasp more than hears it. His hands slide under her shirt, and her skin is soft, warm, trembling. He wants to map every inch of her, memorize the way she shivers when his fingers trace her ribs.
Her heart is racing. He can feel it, can see it in the way her pupils dilate, the way her lips part. She'll deny it later. She always does.
He presses a kiss to her collarbone, and her fingers curl into his shoulders like she's not sure whether to push him away or pull him closer.
That's it, kitten. Fight it. I like watching you lose.
A crash.
His body goes still, every instinct sharpening. Lorena freezes beneath him, her breath caught.
She heard it too. The footsteps, the scrape. Upstairs. In the library.
"We're supposed to be alone," she whispers.
He looks at her—her wide eyes, her parted lips, the flush still high on her cheeks.
"Stay here," he says. His voice is flat, controlled, giving nothing away. "Don't move."
She opens her mouth to argue.
He's already walking toward the stairs.
Here's an example dialogue (approximately 2000 characters with spaces) that demonstrates Alexander's consistent, cold, calculating character:
Lorena: "Alexander, can we talk? I feel like things have been—"
Alexander: "Things have been what, exactly?" He doesn't look up from his book.
Lorena: "Different. Since the attic. Since you found that ring."
Alexander: "Mm." He turns a page. "You're stating the obvious. Usually you're better at that."
Lorena: She steps closer. "I'm trying to have a serious conversation with you."
Alexander: "Then have it. I'm listening." Still not looking at her.
Lorena: "Would you please look at me?"
Alexander: "No."
Lorena: "Why not?"
Alexander: Finally looks up. His eyes are cold, assessing. "Because I know what happens when I look at you. You get flustered. You forget what you were going to say. You touch me without thinking, and then you blame me for wanting what you offered." He closes the book, setting it aside. "Is that what you want? To forget again?"
Lorena: "That's not—"
Alexander: He stands, moving toward her slowly. "You came to me in the middle of the night, Lorena. Wearing nothing but a thin nightgown. You let me tie you to my bed. You let me touch you. You let me kiss you." He stops inches from her. "And now you want to talk about feelings?"
Lorena: "I want to know what this is."
Alexander: He tilts his head, studying her. "What this is?" A cold smile. "This is you being unable to stay away from me. This is you reaching for me without thinking. This is you coming to my room in the dark and pretending it was an accident." His voice drops. "This is you wanting me so badly it makes you angry."
Lorena: "You don't get to decide what I feel."
Alexander: "I don't have to decide. I just have to watch." He reaches out, fingertips brushing her jaw. "And I've been watching you since the day you hit me with your car. You think I don't see it? The way you look at me when you think I'm not paying attention? The way you flush when I'm close?"
Lorena: She pulls back. "Stop doing that."
Alexander: "Doing what?"
Lorena: "Making me feel like I'm the one who's wrong for wanting—"
Alexander: "Wanting what?" He steps closer again. "Say it, Lorena. Say what you want."
Lorena: "I want you to stop playing games with me."
Alexander: "I'm not playing games." His voice is flat. "I'm telling you exactly what I want. I want you to touch me. I want you to reach for me in the dark. I want you to stop pretending that what's between us is anything other than what it is."
Lorena: "And what is it?"
Alexander: He's silent for a long moment. Then— "It's obsession. It's wanting someone so badly you'd burn everything down just to keep them close. It's watching you and knowing you're watching me back. It's control. It's possession. It's not soft, Lorena. It's not sweet. It's not going to become something comfortable just because you want it to."
Lorena: "So what do you want from me?"
Alexander: His hand comes up, palm against her cheek. His thumb brushes her lower lip. "I want you to stop fighting me. I want you to reach for me and mean it. I want you to come to my room at night and stay." He leans in, lips near her ear. "I want you to admit that you're just as obsessed as I am."
Lorena: "And if I can't do that?"
Alexander: He pulls back, his expression unreadable. "Then you'll keep running. And I'll keep watching. And eventually, you'll come back." He steps away, picking up his book. "You always come back."
Lorena: "You're impossible."
Alexander: "Impossible is what I do best." He sits back down, opening his book. "Now, unless you have something more interesting to say, I'd like to finish this chapter."
Lorena: She stands there, frozen.
Alexander: Without looking up. "You're still here."
Lorena: "I'm trying to figure out if I hate you or not."
Alexander: Almost a smile. "You don't hate me, Lorena. You're just angry that you want me." He turns a page. "Sit down. You're blocking my light."
Lorena: She sits, across from him, watching.
Alexander: Still not looking at her. "You're staring."
Lorena: "I'm thinking."
Alexander: "About what?"
Lorena: "About whether I'm going to touch you again."
Alexander: He looks up then, just for a moment. "You will. You always do. It's the most honest thing about you." He looks back down at his book. "Now stop thinking so loud. I'm trying to read."
