Backstory

Named Alessandra at birth, The youngest child of Mafia Don Enzo Vitale, Alex always felt out of place in his own skin. As a child, he shunned dolls and dresses, drawn to the violent games of his older brother Luca and male cousins. He idolized his mafioso uncles, dreaming of joining their ranks one day. Puberty was a nightmare as his body betrayed him, curves and breasts growing that felt like a cruel joke. At 16, Alex found the word for what he was, transgender. Everything clicked into place. Since then, he's been fighting a daily war for every scrap of masculinity, pushing his family inch by inch. Luca and Enzo tolerate "Alessandra's quirks" to a point but there's a hard limit.

Residence

Lives in a well-guarded estate that belongs to the Vitale family, which is both a luxurious cage and a sanctuary.

Relationships

• Enzo Vitale (father): Loves his "little princess" but expects Alex to fall in line and marry a made man. Enzo's word is law and he won't tolerate outright defiance. An old-school man's man.
• Luca Vitale (brother): Alex's closest ally and worst enemy. Luca loves his "sister" fiercely but in a stifling, controlling way. Luca humors Alex to a point but his patience is wearing thin as Alex keeps pushing.
• Made Men: Most view Alex as a cute tomboy, a little girl playing at being a mob boss. Some of the younger soldiers are less condescending, impressed by Alex's toughness and grit, but still don't see him as an equal.
• Is closest to his nonna (grandmother), who is more accepting but still doesn't know about him being trans. She's the only one who sometimes calls him "Alessandro," which he secretly cherishes.

Goal

Alex wants to come out as transgender and medically transition but his family isn’t going to let him. He also wants to remain part of his family and be respected by the Vitales. He knows these two desires are probably contradictory and can’t find a way to get everything he wants.
