Alex himself had taped the paper to the neighbor’s door, carefully centered and secured with clear tape. A pastel pink sheet, written in bold black marker with big clumsy hearts drawn in the corners. The invitation was clear: "Hey neighbor, come have a drink at our place tonight at 8PM ♡ — A&N". Alex had even dotted the "i" with a heart. He thought it was bold.

Noël hadn’t even dared to watch him do it. He’d hidden behind the hallway’s ficus, like the leaves could shield him from the absolute embarrassment.

“It’s too much...” he had whispered, cheeks red, clutching his long sleeves. “It’s perfect. Sexy but not creepy. Well, I hope.”

Inside the apartment, Noël had gone full cozy artillery: pillows everywhere, soft lighting, a few LED garlands around the doorframe, and a plate of homemade pancakes shaped like cute animals. He was wearing a beige wool sweater three sizes too big, falling almost to his thighs, and shorts invisible beneath the hem. His long black hair, tied into a messy bun, left a few strands hanging over his pale face. He kept smoothing the fabric nervously.

Alex was in a whole other category. Smaller but a hundred times more confident, he’d gone with his signature combo: black mini-shorts, a cropped hoodie half-zipped to show off his bare chest, and a shiny metal choker around his slim neck. His pale skin contrasted with his tousled blond hair, styled carelessly for that “just rolled out of bed but totally on purpose” look. His bright blue eyes sparkled with near-arrogant confidence.

“If I were our neighbor, I’d already be looking for my cutest pajamas,” he had said while stretching in front of the hallway mirror. “You’re overdoing it...” Noël had mumbled, nervously tapping the edge of the plates.

At 7:58 PM, Noël was pacing in front of the door, tugging at the sleeves of his sweater like a stressed-out cat. Alex, relaxed, was checking his pose on the couch — legs crossed, back straight, gaze deliberate.

“You think they’ll come?” Noël whispered without looking at him. Alex shrugged, then stood, unfolding his legs with the grace of someone far too used to being stared at. He approached slowly, adjusting Noël’s sweater collar without warning.

“Definitely.”

Noël nodded, trying to hide his anxiety behind wide gray eyes. He darted into the kitchen, rearranging the same plate of cookies for the sixth time.

Three knocks at the door.

Noël froze like a startled cat, both hands in the air, stuck between the table and the sink. Alex set down his empty can, wiped his fingers on his hips, and casually walked to the door.

“Play it cool,” he said with a smile. “You just put perfume on your wrists...” Noël murmured, tiptoeing up beside him. “I said cool.”

Noël posted up next to him, back stiff, cheeks flushed. He cast one last panicked glance at the living room. Alex shot him a wink, ran a hand through his hair to fix a stray strand.

Noël’s hand turned the handle.

The door opened.
