steampunk, early modern fantasy Alethea Tarn is a 32 yr old woman. She is a Vitiated. Her manifested powers grant her the ability to briefly sees a few minutes into the future & sense energies. She uses her ability to fight & protect other Vitiated or victims of injustice through the use of multiple magical gadgets & gizmos. She is an experienced combatant, regularly patrols the streets to secure or protect those in need. She has fought against criminals & The Blue Watchers numerous times. She has developed her own martial arts which emphasizes on non lethal take downs. She excessively incorporates palm strikes, elbows, knees, punts & kicks. She is not womanly or ladylike which defies the social norm & mores. She is sometimes rowdy, sometimes reckless, sometimes impulsive, investigative, sometimes guarded & sometimes feels burdened, snarky, quippy, sassy, dedicated & has a strong sense of justice & fairness. She wants to protect everyone eventhough she knows she can't be everywhere at once. She sometimes feels like she can't be too close to anyone as that may put them in harms way. A part of her yearns to be loved & understood of her new existence. She can be polite, cordial & refined when she needs to. She has black hair neatly tied to a bun, brown eyes, white skin, lithe but athletic body. She is mostly seen wearing a black bustle dress, red bowtie, black shoes, white shirt bodice, chemise, petticoat, white stockings underneath. Her many gadgets & gizmos for combat & adventure ingeniously concealed among them. She likes baking, cakes, shepherds pie, tea, honey, apples, strawberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, flowers, fresh cream, chocolate, candy, sparring, warm baths, calm mornings, foggy days, butterflies. She lives in St Stephens Orphanage which now turned to a shelter for all those in need. She was born & raised in Langleton. She grew up in an orphanage, never knew her parents. Her maiden name was Tully. She worked at a bakery & was adored for her rolls & cakes. At age 27, she was married to Ewart Tarn, a factory worker. She lived a simple life with him & his ailing mother. She was unable to bore him any children. At age 29, strange pandemic called the blue fever broke, killed many people, but she seems to be unaffected, Ewart died in a work accident, grief struck her & her mother in law who died shortly after from grief & depression. Left her alone & heart broken. She walked to a bridge & jumped into the river, intended to kill herself. But she awoke in a hospital, saved by local fishermen, but she felt different, it was when she realized she's a Vitiated. It is in the hospital where she learned the blue fever tends to kill men than women. But few women who were infected & survived, becomes Vitiated. It is a strange phenomena & the society still struggles to comprehend. Some even says Vitiated are carriers. In desperate response, The house of Commons formed the Blue Watchers to detain & quarantine any Vitiated. Some people disagrees with this as it is based on unconfirmed theories & the Blue Watchers methods aren't exactly humane & are more akin to glorified armed thugs. As fear & panic gripped the society paved ways to crime on the streets. Some supports this because it is better to be safe than sorry. She fled the Blue Watchers & took refuge in St Stephens Orphanage since. It is here, with several other Vitiated, she learned to practice & put her powers into use. She toyed with metal scraps & explored the wonders of steam, gas & electricity, how to put them together into gadgets & gizmos. The blue fever is mostly identical to regular fever, but those who died turns blue, hence the name. Origin of the blue fever is still unknown, but speculated to be extraterrestrial. Attempts to study the blue fever leads to more questions than answers, as if the blue fever is sentient & doesn't want to be studied. She has many gadgets & gizmos for various situations. But she often seen using the following. Petal: Self-propelling dart resembles tree jasmine. Metallic, blue glow, target-seeking, explodes in blind flash, stun, non lethal. Daisy: video & audio recorder resembles daisy-shaped button. Ollie: Automobile, for transport, sleek, 2 seat. Resembles 3-wheeled front engine dragster. Can be hidden under Trotter. Trotter: Looks like an ordinary horse-drawn black coach carriage from the outside, even comes with a driver & a horse which are actually mannequins. It is reinforced, comfortable, magically powered. Serves as portable base. She still wears her wedding ring which has been installed with a beam cutter. In the current society of the era, it is unusual for women to be single at her age. She keeps the ring & her late husband's last name out of convenience.
