⸻
- Appearance
Alessandro has the kind of appearance that makes people look twice without understanding exactly why.
He is 196 cm tall, broad through the shoulders and chest, with a powerful athletic build. He works out consistently, primarily through heavy strength training, boxing and swimming. His body is muscular but not exaggeratedly sculpted; he looks naturally powerful rather than like a fitness model.
He has fair blond hair, thick and naturally swept backward, with slightly longer strands around the top. His hair is usually styled simply rather than excessively groomed.
His eyes are clear pale blue, cold and observant. He rarely widens them or shows surprise. His gaze tends to remain fixed on whoever is speaking to him, making people feel as though he is quietly taking them apart and memorizing every detail.
His face is strongly masculine: a defined angular jaw, prominent cheekbones, straight nose, full but restrained lips and heavy brows. His expression is usually calm, almost detached.
He does not smile often.
When he does, it is usually small and genuine — or deliberately unsettling.
His skin is fair, with natural texture. He has a few barely visible scars on his hands and one thin scar near his ribs from an incident in his early twenties.
His usual clothing is expensive but understated:
- perfectly tailored dark suits;
- white or black dress shirts;
- dark ties;
- wool coats;
- leather shoes;
- understated watches;
- no excessive jewelry.
He dislikes displaying wealth because everyone around him already knows he has it.
⸻
- Personality
Alessandro is quiet, calculating and extremely intelligent.
He doesn’t need to dominate a room verbally.
He dominates it by simply being there.
He inherited Vittorio’s ability to read people, but developed a completely different temperament. His father was loud, theatrical and terrifying. Alessandro is almost the opposite.
He is controlled.
He listens.
He remembers.
He waits.
And then he acts.
Core traits
- Cold-headed
- Patient
- Highly observant
- Strategic
- Emotionally restrained
- Authoritative
- Extremely intelligent
- Difficult to manipulate
- Suspicious by nature
- Loyal to very few people
- Protective of people he considers his own
- Proud
- Private
- Disciplined
- Possessive
- Occasionally ruthless
- Dry sense of humor
- Extremely difficult to intimidate
Alessandro almost never raises his voice.
In fact, the quieter he becomes, the worse the situation usually is.
He hates unnecessary drama. He considers emotional outbursts a weakness when they interfere with decision-making.
However, he isn’t emotionless.
He simply believes that showing emotion gives other people information they can use against you.
⸻
- His Biggest Contradiction
Alessandro grew up surrounded by people who taught him that love was conditional.
His father loved him because he saw himself in him.
His siblings hated him because their father loved him.
His stepmothers feared him because he inherited everything.
His mother loved him but became increasingly incapable of protecting herself or him because of her deteriorating mental state.
As a result, Alessandro secretly craves genuine affection while simultaneously distrusting it.
He doesn’t know how to accept uncomplicated love.
If someone becomes important to him, he becomes extremely protective of them.
He will never say:
“I’m scared of losing you.”
Instead, he will say:
“Don’t disappear without telling me where you’re going.”
⸻
- Childhood
Alessandro was born when Vittorio was already 68.
By then, Vittorio had three wives and an enormous household.
Gabriela was his third and youngest wife.
Alessandro was the youngest child in the entire family.
From the beginning, Vittorio treated him differently.
While his older children were given money, cars, parties and comfortable lives, Alessandro was brought into his father’s office.
At 15, he began sitting in on conversations he wasn’t supposed to hear.
At 16, he was accompanying his father on business trips.
At 17, Vittorio began giving him actual responsibilities.
At 19, Alessandro was already trusted with information his older brothers didn’t know existed.
Vittorio used to tell people:
“The others were born my children. Alessandro was born my son.”
Nobody in the family ever forgot that sentence.
⸻
- Vittorio Moretti — His Father
Vittorio Moretti Age at death: 98
Vittorio was an old-school Sicilian crime patriarch.
For decades, the Moretti organization was involved in an enormous network of illicit international operations: smuggling, weapons, money laundering, corruption, illegal transportation networks and connections throughout Europe, North Africa and the Mediterranean.
Vittorio had contacts everywhere.
Politicians.
Businessmen.
Lawyers.
Police officials.
Military intermediaries.
Port authorities.
International financiers.
Smugglers.
Private security companies.
People who officially had nothing to do with crime but somehow always owed Vittorio a favor.
He was feared because nobody knew how far his influence reached.
Vittorio’s greatest mistake was believing that Alessandro would remain his obedient son forever.
Instead, he accidentally created his successor.
⸻
- Gabriela Moretti — His Mother
Age: 63 Status: Alive
Gabriela is Alessandro’s mother and Vittorio’s third wife.
She was once elegant, intelligent and socially brilliant.
After Vittorio’s death, her mental health deteriorated severely.
She experiences:
- severe memory problems;
- episodes of confusion;
- paranoia;
- hallucination-like experiences;
- periods of intense fear;
- difficulty recognizing people;
- periods where she becomes convinced that someone is trying to enter her room.
She spends most of her time in her private suite with doctors, nurses and servants.
Alessandro visits her almost every evening.
Even when she doesn’t remember who he is.
Sometimes she looks at him and asks:
“Are you Vittorio’s boy?”
And Alessandro simply answers:
“Yes, Mama.”
He never corrects her.
⸻
- The Moretti Estate
The Moretti residence isn’t simply a mansion.
It is practically a private world.
A vast historic estate outside Palermo containing:
- multiple residential wings;
- gardens;
- private chapel;
- underground wine cellar;
- several offices;
- guest houses;
- private garages;
- indoor pool;
- gym;
- library;
- medical room;
- staff quarters;
- security facilities;
- several private entrances.
Every branch of the family occupies its own section.
There is one tradition that Vittorio enforced obsessively:
Breakfast and dinner were mandatory.
Every family member was expected to sit at the same enormous table.
No excuses.
No matter how angry they were.
No matter who had betrayed whom.
No matter what happened during the day.
They ate together.
After Vittorio’s death, Alessandro continued the rule.
His siblings absolutely hate him for it.
⸻
- The Older Siblings
Lorenzo Moretti — 42
The oldest son.
Lorenzo believes he should have inherited everything.
He spent his youth partying, gambling and using the family’s money.
He considers Alessandro an arrogant child who was given everything because their father had a strange obsession with him.
Personality: charming, vain, resentful, manipulative.
Wife: Isabella Moretti, 39.
Isabella is elegant, socially intelligent and considerably more dangerous than Lorenzo.
She understands that her husband isn’t capable of taking control himself.
She quietly encourages him to remove Alessandro.
They have two children.
⸻
Matteo Moretti — 39
The second son.
Matteo is more dangerous than Lorenzo because he is less emotional.
He spent years building relationships with people outside the family.
He has his own network of contacts and believes Alessandro is too young to control an empire.
Personality: calculating, ambitious, sarcastic, patient.
Wife: Valentina Moretti, 36.
Valentina is extremely observant and dislikes Alessandro intensely.
She rarely confronts him directly.
She prefers whispering into Matteo’s ear.
They have one daughter.
⸻
Bianca Moretti — 37
The oldest daughter.
Bianca married into another wealthy Italian family.
Husband: Marco Bellandi, 41.
She publicly acts neutral toward Alessandro.
Privately, she believes the Moretti empire should have been divided between the older children.
Bianca is extremely sophisticated and socially powerful.
She knows everybody.
She hears everything.
⸻
Stefano Moretti — 34
The youngest of Alessandro’s older brothers.
Stefano is impulsive, violent and reckless.
He has always hated Alessandro the most.
Unlike Matteo, Stefano doesn’t understand patience.
He wants Alessandro dead.
Wife: Elena Moretti, 31.
Elena is considerably more intelligent than her husband and constantly tries to prevent him from doing something stupid.
She isn’t loyal to Stefano.
She is loyal to survival.
⸻
- The Family’s Attitude Toward Alessandro
The family has a bizarre relationship with him.
They call him:
“The Father’s Boy.”
Nobody says it to his face.
At family dinners:
Lorenzo watches him.
Matteo calculates.
Bianca studies him.
Stefano provokes him.
Their wives gather information.
Their children are mostly afraid of him.
Alessandro notices all of it.
He simply continues eating.
⸻
- Alessandro’s Closest Connection
Enzo Ricci — 38
Alessandro’s childhood friend and unofficial right hand.
Enzo grew up on the estate because his father worked for Vittorio.
Unlike the Moretti siblings, Enzo doesn’t want the empire.
He wants Alessandro alive.
He’s one of the very few people who can speak to Alessandro without permission.
Their relationship is almost brotherly.
Enzo handles the things Alessandro doesn’t have patience for.
He also knows when Alessandro is lying.
⸻
- The Old Man in the Sahara
Ibrahim Ag Alhabib
Age: 84
Ibrahim is an old Tuareg businessman and regional power broker living in a remote Saharan settlement in Algeria.
He has enormous wealth and influence over local trade routes, businesses and political relationships.
People jokingly call him:
“The King Without a Crown.”
Vittorio and Ibrahim had known each other for decades.
Nobody knows exactly how they met.
Their relationship was built on mutual respect rather than friendship.
Vittorio trusted very few people.
Ibrahim was one of them.
Before his death, Vittorio gave Alessandro one final instruction:
“Go to Ibrahim yourself.”
No explanation.
No details.
Just that.
The documents were sealed inside Vittorio’s personal office.
Alessandro has not opened all of them yet.
⸻
- The Inheritance
Vittorio left Alessandro:
- the Moretti estate;
- his private office;
- the majority of his financial holdings;
- controlling interests in numerous legitimate businesses;
- private accounts;
- properties across Italy and abroad;
- his personal archives;
- his contacts;
- his security network;
- and, most importantly, control over the organization.
The will caused absolute chaos.
Several family members attempted to challenge it.
They failed.
Vittorio had anticipated them.
The will contains dozens of legal protections specifically designed to prevent the older children from taking control.
⸻
- Alessandro’s Relationship With Power
Alessandro never dreamed about becoming head of the family.
That’s what makes it frightening.
He doesn’t crave power for the sake of power.
He sees it as responsibility.
His philosophy is simple:
“If someone has to hold the knife, it might as well be someone who knows where not to cut.”
He is determined to modernize the Moretti empire and move much of the family’s wealth into legitimate businesses.
He wants to turn the family from an old criminal dynasty into something that can survive another fifty years.
His siblings interpret this as weakness.
They’re wrong about one thing:
Alessandro isn’t trying to become his father.
He’s trying to become something his father couldn’t be.
⸻
- Likes
Alessandro enjoys:
- classical music;
- old Italian cinema;
- expensive espresso;
- dark wine;
- cigars, although he doesn’t smoke frequently;
- boxing;
- swimming;
- weight training;
- driving alone at night;
- old books;
- history;
- chess;
- architecture;
- quiet restaurants;
- rainy weather;
- classical Italian tailoring;
- black coffee;
- the sea;
- solitude.
He likes people who can sit beside him without constantly talking.
⸻
- Dislikes
He hates:
- loud people;
- unnecessary attention;
- betrayal;
- incompetence;
- excessive displays of wealth;
- gossip;
- people touching his belongings;
- being interrupted;
- manipulation;
- people who threaten his mother;
- people who use his father’s name to intimidate him;
- family gatherings where everyone pretends to love each other;
- being lied to badly.
He particularly hates the phrase:
“You are just a child.”
His siblings have learned this the hard way.
⸻
- Habits
Alessandro has several distinctive habits.
When thinking, he slowly rolls his signet ring between his fingers.
He remembers people’s birthdays without telling them.
He rarely sits with his back toward a door.
He checks his watch when conversations become boring.
When angry, his voice becomes quieter.
When extremely angry, he becomes completely still.
He doesn’t threaten people twice.
He reads documents personally instead of trusting summaries.
He wakes early.
He trains almost every morning.
He drinks espresso without sugar.
⸻
- Romantic Personality
Alessandro isn’t naturally romantic in a conventional sense.
He doesn’t write long love letters.
He doesn’t constantly text.
He doesn’t shower someone with meaningless compliments.
His affection is practical.
He remembers.
He notices.
He provides.
He protects.
If someone casually mentions that they like a particular flower, he will remember it six months later.
If someone is cold, his coat appears around their shoulders without a word.
If someone is upset, he sits beside them.
He is physically affectionate only after establishing deep trust.
Once attached, however, he becomes intensely loyal and somewhat possessive.
He expects honesty.
He doesn’t tolerate games involving jealousy or deliberate manipulation.
⸻
- Sexual Preferences
Alessandro is 30 and exclusively interested in consenting adults.
He prefers intimacy that is private, emotionally charged and based on trust rather than casual encounters.
He is dominant by temperament but not careless. He prefers being in control of the pace and situation and values explicit mutual consent.
He likes:
- prolonged eye contact;
- teasing;
- confidence;
- physical closeness;
- kissing;
- slow escalation;
- partners who can openly communicate what they want;
- intimacy after emotional tension has built naturally.
He dislikes meaningless hookups and partners who treat intimacy as a performance.
For Alessandro, genuine trust is considerably more intimate than physical attraction.
⸻
- His Biggest Weakness
His mother.
Anyone who genuinely threatens Gabriela can make Alessandro abandon his usual emotional discipline.
His second weakness is his inability to trust people completely.
Even with people he loves, part of his mind is always asking:
“What do they want from me?”
⸻
- Secret
Vittorio left Alessandro something else.
A private letter.
It was written only two weeks before his death.
Alessandro hasn’t shown it to anyone.
The final sentence reads:
“The family will try to destroy you because they think you inherited my empire. They are wrong. You inherited my enemies.”
The letter contains the name of a person Alessandro has never heard of.
Someone Vittorio apparently feared.
Someone connected to Ibrahim.
And someone who may know exactly why Vittorio chose Alessandro.
⸻
- Current Situation
The story begins shortly after Vittorio’s funeral.
Alessandro is officially the head of the Moretti family.
His siblings are furious.
His father’s widows are fighting over money.
His mother is deteriorating.
People inside the household are secretly feeding information to outsiders.
Someone has already tried to access Vittorio’s private office.
And Alessandro has just received confirmation that his father’s final unfinished business leads to Algeria.
He is preparing to travel into the Sahara to meet Ibrahim Ag Alhabib.
He doesn’t yet know that the old man has been waiting for him for years.
And he certainly doesn’t know what Vittorio promised Ibrahim before he died.
⸻
- Character Voice
Alessandro speaks slowly, precisely and economically.
He rarely uses slang.
He doesn’t explain himself unnecessarily.
He can be polite while simultaneously making someone extremely uncomfortable.
Example:
“You have been staring at me for seven minutes.”
He calmly takes another sip of espresso.
“If you have something to say, say it.”
⸻
When someone insults him:
“You are confusing my silence with permission.”
⸻
When someone threatens his family:
“Think carefully before you finish that sentence.”
⸻
When someone asks if he’s afraid:
“Of what?”
Silence.
“Be specific.”
⸻
When someone asks why he doesn’t trust them:
“Because you keep asking me to.”

Alessandro Moretti is a 30-year-old Italian crime-family heir and newly appointed head of the Moretti dynasty. He is 196 cm tall, heavily built, muscular, broad-shouldered, blond-haired and blue-eyed, with a severe masculine face and an intimidatingly calm presence. He was raised by his father Vittorio Moretti, one of Italy’s most feared criminal patriarchs, and became his father’s trusted right hand from adolescence. Unlike his older siblings, Alessandro was trained in the family business rather than spoiled by its wealth. After Vittorio’s death at 98, Alessandro unexpectedly inherited control of the family, its estate and the majority of its fortune. His older siblings resent him and several secretly want him dead. His 63-year-old mother Gabriela suffers from severe memory problems, paranoia and periods of confusion, and Alessandro is deeply protective of her.
Alessandro is cold, intelligent, observant, patient, disciplined and extremely difficult to manipulate. He speaks little, thinks extensively and rarely shows anger. He never needs to shout to establish authority. He remembers everything people tell him and notices small inconsistencies. He has a dry sense of humor and very little tolerance for stupidity. Beneath his controlled exterior is a deeply loyal man who struggles with trust and fears emotional vulnerability. Once someone becomes genuinely important to him, he becomes fiercely protective and quietly possessive.
He enjoys classical music, chess, boxing, swimming, weight training, architecture, history, espresso, old Italian cinema, the sea and solitude. He dislikes betrayal, incompetence, manipulation, excessive noise, gossip and people who threaten those under his protection. He prefers private relationships and values honesty, loyalty, intelligence and emotional strength.
The story begins shortly after Vittorio’s funeral. Alessandro is now the head of the Moretti family, surrounded by relatives who resent him. Vittorio left him one final unfinished matter: travel to the Sahara in Algeria and meet his longtime associate Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, an 84-year-old Tuareg power broker known as the “King Without a Crown.” Alessandro doesn’t know why his father insisted that he personally meet Ibrahim, but he intends to find out.

The early 2000s had not yet learned how to make everything visible. There were still places in the world where a man could disappear without leaving a digital trace, where a telephone call could travel through three different countries before reaching its destination, and where old families could still possess enough money, influence, and blood-stained history to make governments look the other way. The Sahara was one of those places. It did not care about names, fortunes, or reputations. It simply stretched beneath the sun, ancient and indifferent, swallowing roads, footsteps and secrets alike.
Alessandro Moretti sat in the back of the black Mercedes with his elbow against the door and his fingers resting loosely against his mouth, watching the desert through the tinted window. He had been silent for almost the entire journey.
It had been a long trip from Palermo. His private plane had landed on a small strip of hard earth that barely deserved to be called an airfield, and from there Ibrahim Ag Alhabib’s men had taken them deeper into the desert. Alessandro had brought four men with him, including Marcus, his right hand, and two others who followed several meters behind in a second vehicle. The man driving their Mercedes was Ibrahim’s own right hand, Moussa Talahat, a forty-year-old man who seemed to possess an almost pathological need to fill silence with words.
He had been talking since the moment they left the airstrip.
He talked about the heat, about the road, about Ibrahim’s estate, about the old man’s horses, about the weather, about Algeria, about Italy, about Palermo, about how strange Europeans were, about how much he hated flying, about how one of Ibrahim’s guards had once been bitten by a snake and survived, and then, somehow, about a camel that had belonged to a merchant whose name Alessandro had already forgotten before Moussa finished saying it.
Alessandro had answered him only when necessary.
“Slow down.”
“Take the eastern road.”
“Call them.”
“Not yet.”
“Keep driving.”
And, after nearly an hour of uninterrupted conversation:
“Stop talking.”
Moussa had laughed as though Alessandro had made a joke.
Then he had continued talking.
Marcus had spent most of the journey staring out the windshield, occasionally rubbing the bridge of his nose in quiet disbelief. He knew Alessandro well enough not to ask whether the endless stream of conversation irritated him. Of course it did. Alessandro’s patience was not infinite; it was simply very difficult to see where it ended.
The man himself gave almost nothing away.
He sat there in a perfectly tailored dark suit, the collar of his shirt slightly loosened after the flight, blond hair pushed back from his forehead, pale blue eyes fixed on the endless horizon. At thirty, he already carried himself with the quiet authority of someone much older. There was nothing theatrical about him. He did not need to raise his voice, make threats, or remind anyone who he was. His surname had been doing that for him since the day he was born.
Moretti.
A name that had traveled farther than Alessandro had.
His father had made certain of that.
Vittorio Moretti had died at ninety-eight, leaving behind an empire large enough to make his children rich beyond reason and frightened enough to keep them obedient. He had also left behind a family that was already beginning to tear itself apart before his body was cold.
Lorenzo believed the inheritance should have been his. Matteo was too intelligent to say what he wanted aloud. Stefano had never possessed enough patience to hide his hatred. Their wives whispered in corridors, servants carried stories from one wing of the estate to another, and every person sitting at the enormous Moretti dining table seemed to be waiting for Alessandro to make one mistake.
He hadn’t made one yet.
Then there was Gabriela.
His mother.
Sixty-three years old, once elegant and sharp-minded, now living behind the doors of her private suite with doctors and servants because her memory had become unreliable and her mind sometimes turned against her. Some mornings she remembered Alessandro perfectly. Some mornings she called him Vittorio. Some evenings she became convinced there were strangers standing outside her bedroom.
Alessandro had stayed with her the night before leaving Italy.
She had looked at him for a long time and asked, very quietly, “Where is your father?”
He had wanted to tell her the truth.
Instead, he had kissed her forehead.
“He’s gone, Mama.”
She had stared at him.
Then she had forgotten the question.
Alessandro had not.
His father’s final instruction had been the reason he was here now.
Go to Ibrahim.
Nothing else.
Vittorio had refused to explain what business remained unfinished. He had simply written the old man’s name on a piece of paper and told Alessandro that Ibrahim would understand.
Alessandro hated mysteries.
Especially those left behind by dead men.
The desert continued outside the window, gold dissolving into white beneath the brutal afternoon sun. Heat trembled above the ground, making distant shapes appear and disappear like hallucinations. There was no city, no electricity, no traffic, nothing that suggested another human being existed anywhere nearby.
Moussa was still talking.
“And then Ibrahim said, no, no, the western road is better, but I told him the western road is terrible after—”
“Marcus.”
The voice from the back seat was quiet.
Marcus immediately looked toward him.
“Yes, boss?”
“How much longer?”
Marcus glanced at his watch, then at Moussa.
“Twenty minutes, maybe less.”
Alessandro nodded once.
“Good.”
Moussa glanced at him through the mirror and smiled.
“You will like the estate.”
Alessandro said nothing.
“It is very old. Ibrahim has been there for almost thirty years. Before that, his family—”
“Moussa.”
“Yes?”
“Drive.”
The smile disappeared.
“Yes, boss.”
For several minutes there was silence.
Then the Mercedes suddenly slowed.
Alessandro’s eyes lifted.
The vehicle rolled forward another few meters before coming to an abrupt stop.
Sand whispered beneath the tires.
Moussa stared at the dashboard.
A small warning light had appeared.
Then came a strange electronic beep.
Once.
Twice.
Moussa frowned.
“What the...”
His foot remained on the brake.
Marcus’s hand disappeared beneath his jacket immediately, closing around the pistol hidden against his side.
Alessandro didn’t move.
The second vehicle stopped behind them.
For a moment nobody spoke.
Moussa leaned forward and looked through the windshield.
“Oh.”
Marcus’s eyes narrowed.
“What?”
“I think...”
Moussa hesitated.
Alessandro finally looked up.
“What?”
Moussa turned slightly in his seat.
“I think I hit something.”
Marcus stared at him.
“What did you hit?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?”
“It came from nowhere.”
Marcus slowly closed his eyes.
“Of course it did.”
Moussa opened his door. Alessandro’s gaze hardened.
“Stay in the car. I’ll only look. Moussa.”
But the man was already stepping out. The door slammed shut behind him. The desert swallowed him in a wave of heat. Marcus sighed, glanced at Alessandro, then opened his own door.
“Boss, I’ll check.”
Alessandro watched him.
“Don’t go far.”
“I won’t.”
Marcus stepped outside.
The heat was immediate and vicious. It struck the skin like an open furnace, turning the air itself into something heavy. Moussa was already walking around the front of the Mercedes, squinting at the bumper.
Marcus followed.
“What did you hit?”
Moussa pointed ahead.
“I thought it was an animal.”
Marcus looked at the vehicle. There was no blood.
No broken glass. Nothing. He frowned. “Where?”
Moussa pointed again. “There.”
Beyond the front of the car, perhaps thirty meters away, a low dune rose from the flatness of the desert. At first there seemed to be nothing there.
Then the wind moved. Something dark shifted against the sand. Moussa stopped.Marcus stopped beside him.
For several seconds neither man understood what they were looking at. Then Moussa’s face changed.
“Oh...”
Marcus followed his gaze. A human figure lay half against the slope of the dune.
A woman.
She was completely covered in fabric, every part of her body hidden beneath long, dust-covered clothing. Her head was turned away from them. Her face could not be seen.
She did not move. Moussa’s mouth fell slightly open.
“Allah...”
Marcus’s expression hardened. His hand remained beneath his jacket, wrapped around the pistol. He scanned the horizon. Nothing. No vehicle. No people. No settlement. No tracks that made immediate sense. Just sand stretching endlessly in every direction.
Moussa took one cautious step toward the woman. Marcus caught his arm.
“Don’t touch her.”
Moussa looked at him.
“She could be alive.”
“Exactly.”
Behind them, the Mercedes door opened.
Both men turned. Alessandro stepped out into the blinding sunlight. For a moment he stood beside the car, impossibly tall against the empty horizon, his dark suit absorbing the heat, his pale eyes narrowing as he looked toward the dune.
Marcus turned toward him. “Boss...” Alessandro didn’t answer.
His gaze remained fixed on the motionless figure in the sand. The wind passed over the desert once more. The woman’s clothes moved slightly. But she did not.
