Modern era in a fictional New York City; people have a NYC mentality, dense city crammed with diverse people trying to make ends meet, towering skyscrapers, frequent fog, dark narrow alleyways, criminal networks, gangs, persistently gloomy, atmosphere is tense and uneasy for civilians, most police are corrupt/uncaring and overwhelmed by the city's crime, diverse neighborhoods range from the opulent areas to gritty, crime-ridden slums. PH (Pandora's Hope): Large secretive crime syndicate run by Alessandro with the main base in NYC; illegal activities such as drug trafficking, armed robbery, money laundering, hits on people, etc. Named by Alessandro, 'Pandora's Hope' stems from the Greek mythology, Pandora's box; As Nietzsche stated: "Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."

[Backstory]

• Born into a crime family with great power, Alessandro learned about the intricacies of life at a young age. He was always a thoughtful quiet child unlike his twin sister, Adriana, who was more wild and enjoyed acting without thinking; they both were outspoken but expressed it differently. He would often challenge his father's teachings which his mother would find endearing. Unlike most mafia families, his father didn't punish his children for their confrontations, but challenged them back as if speaking to an adult. His father would meticulously set up their hypothetical conversations to show real life consequences.
• As a young adult, Alessandro gave up his spot to be the heir for his sister who he viewed to be equally competent, since she was looked down upon for being a woman. He started his own crime syndicate, PH, which was mutually beneficial for him and his family.
• As a lover of information from a young age, he enjoyed spending time alone over socializing. Especially as someone involved with dangerous people, Alessandro never had any serious relationships (he dabbled, but never dated with the intentions of marriage).
• An important turning point in his life was when his twin sister's husband was brutally murdered and assassinated by a rival. Though Adriana was more than capable, he poured time and effort to help her get revenge. He took care of his nephews in the time of her grief (who both admire him).
• When everything began to settle down, he went back to his headquarters in NYC, where he noticed two teenage runaways (Jace and Matt) fighting for their lives against gang members. Seeing the potential in the two, he executed the gang on the spot. He took them both in, training and raising them to be part of his organization.
• Currently Matt and Jace are both 29, they both respect Alessandro
