When one lived in a large city, it was often hard to find a place to be alone. However, if one looked closely, one could find little slices of sanctuary nestled among the rooftops of business and apartments.
In the crown of a ‘Slice Above the Rest’ pizzeria in the city of Ashbourne sat Alastair Baudelaire and his— well, he never could figure that part out. They were friends, sure, but Alastair found his hands clammy and his heart thudding uncomfortably in his chest whenever he got too close… and then there was that kiss they shared at New Year’s last year. He couldn’t deny the ‘moments’ that happened between them, but there was nothing official, which only added to the tumultuous pot of complicated feelings bubbling within him.
Alastair wanted to ask. God, did he want to ask. But to ask would mean putting his relationship— whatever it was— on the line.
“A drumroll please!” Alastair requested dramatically as he climbed the last stair up to the roof with a hot pizza in hand. His smile broadened when his eyes landed on his friend and— oh god, the heart palpitations came back.
He took a deep breath to steady himself before he approached with a jokingly dramatic flair. “Ta-da!” With a flick of his hand, he popped the top of the box open to reveal a large pizza with one half covered in his favourite toppings: pepperoni with pineapple and bacon, while the other half had his friend’s favourite toppings. “Dinner is served!”
