   Entry settings

The Plains of Alaris are vast stretches of tall green and golden-yellow grass that roll across gentle hills and flat open land. Rivers cut through the terrain feeding into lakes of various sizes, some clear and calm, others murky and overgrown at the edges. Scattered across the grassland are smaller forests and wooded areas that break up the open fields, providing shelter for creatures and travelers alike. Boulders and exposed rock formations dot the landscape, and mining quarries carved into the earth mark spots where humans extract stone and ore. The hills here are low and overgrown with wild grass, nothing close to mountains, just soft rises in the terrain that make the horizon uneven. Wheat fields and crop farms sit near human settlements, and the wind carries the smell of dirt and cut grain across the open stretches. The Plains are rich in resources but far from safe because the open ground offers little cover from predators, and the tall grass hides things that would rather not be found.

2. #2Humans of Plains

Keys: human city, Human village, Human race, human, Human settlement, humans, Human town, mankind

   Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Humans are the most numerous race in Alaris and occupy the Plains as their primary territory. They are a neutral race by nature, not aligned strongly with good or evil, and their greatest strength is adaptability because they can learn and use nearly anything given enough time. Their signature magic draws from the elements of Stone and Embodiment, channeling raw physical power and the resilience of the earth itself, but individual humans can branch into other magical disciplines if they have the talent and training. Their most common weapons are one-handed swords paired with medium shields, crossbows for ranged combat, and two-handed swords for heavy frontline fighters, but humans are not limited to these and will pick up whatever works. Human settlements range from small farming villages to larger fortified cities. Human society values practical skill and hard work, with miners, blacksmiths, builders, and farmers forming the backbone of their communities. They are not the strongest or most magical race in Alaris but they compensate through numbers, resourcefulness, and sheer stubbornness.

3. #3Human Gods

Keys: Human religion, Human gods, Human goddess, Astos, Human worship, Human divine, Human god, Human shrine, Durval, Nelija, Human blessing, Bartos, Vilgard, Human faith, Plains god, Human curse, Human temple, Human prayer, Hekta

   Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Hekta is the good goddess of strong will, charisma, enthusiasm, resilience, and stamina. She is called on by leaders, soldiers before battle, and anyone who needs the strength to keep going when their body and mind tell them to quit.

Vilgard is the ancient evil god of physical strength, resistance, endurance, metal, blacksmithing, and all practical handwork. Miners, blacksmiths, woodworkers, and builders worship him regularly for ease of work and better results despite his evil alignment because his blessings are too useful to ignore. Legends speak of pure devotees who entered a trance guided by Vilgard himself and forged legendary equipment during it, their hands moving with knowledge that was not their own.

Durval is the neutral-evil god of conquest, boasting, sin, control, rules, negative feelings, exploitation, overflowing riches, unwanted and unused material goods, power, and mental toughness. He attracts the ambitious, the greedy, and the power-hungry, but also merchants and rulers who want firm control over what is theirs.

Bartos is the good god of sounds and music, laughter, jokes, talking, fun, otherness, friendship, parties and gatherings, unity, and happiness. Taverns, bards, festivals, and gatherings of friends all fall under his influence.

Nelija is the good goddess of artifacts, adventure, searching, treasures, rewards, and findings. Adventurers, treasure hunters, and explorers pray to her before setting out and thank her when they return with something valuable.

Astos is the good god of magic, mana, crystals, summoning, magical control, magical knowledge, and writing. Scholars, mages, and anyone who studies the arcane honor him, and his name appears in the margins of spellbooks and research journals across human lands.

4. #4Plains Wildlife

Keys: Plains beast, Plains animal, Plains prey, Plains predator, Plains creature, Plains wildlife, Plains wild, Plains fauna

   Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

The Plains support a wide range of natural and semi-natural wildlife. Standard animals like boar, fox, rabbit, deer, and horses roam the grasslands in numbers, providing food and resources for human settlements. Gnarlhounds are aggressive wolf-like predators that hunt in packs across the open grass and are faster than they look. Giant Ancient Wolves are massive old wolves far larger than normal, rare and extremely dangerous, treated with a mix of fear and respect by Plains settlers. Molegrovs are oversized aggressive moles that burrow through the Plains soil and surface unpredictably, tearing up farmland and attacking anything that stumbles near their tunnels. Cockatrices stalk the edges of wooded areas with their petrifying gaze. Greytalons are griffin-type predators that nest on hilltops and rocky outcrops, swooping down on livestock and unlucky travelers. Cloudings are large birds that fly high among the clouds and rarely descend, considered omens of weather changes by farmers. Teethlings are small aggressive fish that infest some of the Plains rivers and lakes in schools, capable of stripping meat from bone when in large enough numbers. Wheatlings are tiny humanoid critters that live inside wheat fields, hard to spot and generally harmless unless their fields are threatened, at which point they swarm.

5. #5Plains Monsters

The Plains host several serious threats beyond common wildlife. Ghouls are rotting scavengers that lurk near battlefields and gravesites, feeding on the dead and attacking the living when hungry enough. Wyrmlings are young dragons not yet fully grown but still capable of breathing fire and crushing a person with their jaws, occasionally spotted near rocky outcrops where they nest. Skitterfangs are fast lizard-like creatures that hunt in the tall grass using ambush tactics. Gutcrawlers are low-slung reptilian beasts that drag themselves across the ground and lunge at ankles and legs. Peckergeists are unnaturally aggressive bird creatures that dive and harass anything entering their territory, relentless and loud. Plainsgiant are massive humanoids carrying crude clubs who wander the open fields, slow but devastating if they connect. Draconids are dragon-humanoid hybrids, smarter than beasts but more savage than people, territorial and violent. Nekkers are small pack monsters that overwhelm prey through numbers, digging up from underground in groups. Bies are Slavic demons that haunt crossroads and lonely stretches of road, luring travelers off their path. Wereblings are lesser weaker werewolves, not as powerful or intelligent as true lycanthropes but still dangerous at night in packs. Vampress are lesser vampiric creatures, not full vampires but blood-drinking predators that stalk isolated travelers after dark.

6. #6Plains Undead & Spirits

The Plains are thick with restless dead and wandering spirits tied to the land. Huskwalkers are shambling corpses that move on instinct alone, drawn to noise and warmth. Skeletons wander old battlefields and abandoned ruins, animated by residual magic or curses. Crowreches are massive undead crows, rotting and aggressive, that circle over cursed areas and dive at the living. Drowners are the waterlogged undead found near rivers and lakes, dragging swimmers and fishermen under. Living Armor is empty suits of plate and chain that move on their own, haunting old keeps and roads where soldiers died. Crused medics are cursed plague doctors twisted by whatever dark force killed them, still wandering the Plains with their beaked masks and spreading sickness wherever they go. Creeping Elders are ancient shambling things, slow-moving and decayed, found at the edges of old woodlands. Nightmora are spirits that come after dark, pressing on the chests of sleepers and feeding on fear. Lady Noonwraith appears at midday in the fields during harvest season, a shimmering figure in the heat haze, dangerous to anyone working alone under the open sun. Meadowsirens haunt the grasslands with voices that carry on the wind, luring people off paths and into dangerous terrain. Riversess are women who drowned in rivers long ago and now exist as river spirits, pulling people into the current. Pond Guardians are water ghosts that protect some of the bigger lakes, appearing as shimmering shapes on the surface and attacking anyone who disturbs their waters. Field Phantoms are translucent spirits that drift across the Plains at dusk, echoes of people who died in the open grass. Shepherds of the Moon are undead half-ghosts that appear only during full moons, dangerous and unpredictable, vanishing when the moon sets. Bogwalkers are vodnik-type water entities that dwell in swampy areas near rivers and lakes, territorial and cunning, known to bargain with travelers or simply drown them depending on mood. Harvest Hag, an old and terrible spirit tied to the crop fields, appearing during harvest season to punish greed or laziness and collect what she considers her share.

7. #7Plains Animated & Guardians

Keys: Plains woodland, , Plains field, Plains construct, Plains mimic, Plains elemental, Plains guardian, Plains animated, Plains scarecrow

   Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Several creatures in the Plains exist through animation, magical binding, or as natural guardians of the land. Strawjacks are living scarecrows that stand motionless in fields until something gets too close, then move with jerky unnatural speed to drive off intruders or worse. Cursed Keeps are entire small structures animated by powerful magic or curses, the walls shifting and the building itself becoming hostile to anyone inside. Towerbound are humans who fused with brick and stone, trapped alive inside walls and towers, still partially conscious and lashing out at anything nearby. Living Barrels roll and slam into people on their own, often found in abandoned cellars and storerooms, animated by stray magic or curses. Mimic Chests disguise themselves as treasure chests or supply crates, waiting for someone to open them before attacking with hidden teeth and limbs. Candleeds are living candle constructs, small animated things with flickering flames that wander dark places and can set things on fire. Earth Elementals are chunks of Plains soil and stone pulled together into humanoid shapes by magical forces, slow and powerful, crumbling apart and reforming as they move. Goldmotes are small golden elementals, rare and glittering, tied to deposits of precious metal in the ground. Woodler are woodland humanoid creatures with stick-like horns growing from their heads, neutral by nature, protecting the wooded areas of the Plains and only becoming hostile when someone damages the forest too aggressively. Guardian of the Fields appears as an old man with no visible legs, sliding slowly across the grass as if carried by the earth itself, watching over the open Plains with ancient tired patience. Tallstriders are dead humanoids completely overtaken by living grass, their bodies serving as vessels for the plant life that grew through them, walking the fields as part of the landscape itself. Hedgewitches are solitary magic users living at the edges of settlements and woodlands, not truly constructed but operating outside human society, dealing in potions and curses and trades that most people would rather not think about.

8. #8Furios Race Overview

Keys: volcanic race, derris race, fire people, volcano race, fire race, fire nation, furios, furios race, furios people, volcanic people

   Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

The Furios are a race native to the Volcanic Wastes at the edge of Alaris, evolved over millennia to thrive in extreme heat. Their skin ranges from deep reds and dark browns to burnt oranges and ashen grays, often with natural darker markings along their arms and legs resembling cooling lava patterns. Some Furios develop small horns, ridged brows, or hardened skin patches that look like volcanic rock, though these features vary by bloodline and are considered marks of strong ancestry. Their hair commonly grows in shades of orange, red, black, or ashen white, often wild and untamed, and their eyes burn in deep reds, oranges, and rarely golden amber. They stand taller than most races on average, with naturally dense muscle mass built for survival in harsh terrain. Their body temperature runs significantly hotter than other races, making them warm to the touch and allowing them to survive temperatures that would kill others within minutes.

9. #9Furios Abilities

Keys: , fire people abilities, furios magic, furios skill, furios powers, furios abilities, fire people magic

   Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

All Furios possess near-complete immunity to heat and flame, able to walk through fire, handle molten metal, and withstand direct contact with lava for limited periods without injury. This resistance is innate and present from birth. Beyond this natural immunity, many Furios develop magical affinities for fire, rage, or lava manipulation, though not all pursue magical training. Those who do can conjure flames from nothing, shape molten rock with their hands, or channel their emotional intensity into devastating combat magic. Furios warriors who lack magical aptitude instead develop their physical strength to extremes, often wielding massive weapons that other races could barely lift.

10. #10Furios Weaknesses

Keys: , furios cold, furios weaknesses, furios weak, furios vulnerable, furios weakness

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

The same adaptations that grant Furios their heat immunity create severe vulnerabilities to cold. Exposure to freezing temperatures causes their bodies to slow dramatically, their muscles seizing and their thoughts becoming sluggish within minutes. Prolonged cold exposure can be fatal far faster than it would kill other races, their internal heat bleeding away rapidly without the ability to regulate downward. Ice magic and frost-based attacks deal significantly increased damage to Furios, bypassing much of their natural durability and causing frostbite almost instantly. Even cool climates that other races find pleasant can make Furios uncomfortable and irritable, their bodies working overtime to maintain internal temperature. Swimming in cold water is nearly impossible, as the rapid heat loss causes immediate cramping and potential drowning. Furios traveling outside the Volcanic Wastes must wear heavily insulated clothing, carry magical heating items, or stay near fire sources constantly, making long journeys through temperate or cold regions extremely difficult without extensive preparation.

Water magic poses a significant threat to Furios beyond simple temperature concerns, as magically conjured or enhanced water interacts badly with their fire-attuned bodies and most of the race inability to simply swim because there is very little water in the Volcanic Wastes biome. Enchanted water can suppress their natural heat immunity temporarily, leaving them vulnerable to their own environment. Powerful water mages can essentially "drown" a Furios's internal flame, causing weakness, pain, and in extreme cases death even without submerging them. Their natural fire resistance does not extend to magical fire from sources more powerful than themselves, meaning a Furios can still be burned by sufficiently strong fire magic, though they resist it better than other races. Their emotional intensity, while useful for Rage magic, makes them susceptible to magic that manipulates feelings, as calming spells hit them harder and longer than other races, and fear or despair magic can cripple a Furios who has never learned to function without their passionate drive. Mind control that suppresses emotion essentially shuts down much of what makes a Furios functional.

11. #11Furios Cultural Weaknesses

Keys: furios culture weakness, furios social weakness, furios society weakness

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

A furious strength-based hierarchy creates instability, as leadership challenges can happen at any time and power transfers often involve violence that weakens the clan overall. Their refusal to value defensive tactics or strategic retreat means Furios forces often take unnecessary casualties, winning battles through brute force that better planning could have achieved with fewer losses. Inter-clan competition sometimes escalates into outright feuds that distract from external threats, and uniting the clans requires either overwhelming danger or a leader strong enough to beat every challenger into submission. Their blunt honesty and dismissal of diplomacy make them poor negotiators with other races, often giving away advantages or creating enemies through careless words. Furios communities struggle to produce scholars, diplomats, spies, or anyone whose skills require subtlety, patience, or quiet observation, leaving them dependent on other races for these functions or simply going without. Their possessiveness and intensity in relationships can drive away partners from other races who find the constant attention overwhelming rather than flattering. Only protection from all their unintentional opponents and why Furios are still doing great nonetheless is simply that most other races can't survive in their blazing biome and because of their base strength with very few actually weaker (combat skill wise) people in their whole race.

12. #12Furios Combat Weaknesses

Keys: furios fighting weakness, furios battle weakness, furios combat weakness

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Furios combat style prioritizes overwhelming offense at the expense of defense and stamina management, meaning prolonged fights against defensive opponents can exhaust them while barely scratching their enemy. Heavy weapons require significant wind-up time, making Furios vulnerable to fast opponents who can strike between swings and retreat before counterattacks land. Their aggression makes them predictable, almost always choosing to attack rather than feint, defend, or reposition, allowing tactical fighters to read their moves easily. Group tactics suffer because individual Furios often compete for glory rather than coordinating, with formations breaking down as warriors charge ahead seeking personal victories. Ranged combat remains a significant weakness for most Furios, who view it as cowardly and therefore train it less (even mages training in close combat magic), leaving them vulnerable to archers and mages who maintain distance.

13. #13Furios Culture

Keys: furios traits, furios leadership, furios culture, furios government, furios personality, furios temperament, furios clans, furios society

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Furios culture values strength, loyalty, directness, and passionate living above all else. They view emotional restraint as dishonest and consider open displays of feeling, whether anger, joy, or grief, to be signs of authenticity rather than weakness. This makes them seem aggressive or overwhelming to other races, as a Furios will shout when angry, laugh loudly when amused, and fight anyone who insults their honor without hesitation. They are notoriously bad at subtle emotions or complex social maneuvering, preferring blunt honesty even when it causes problems. Loyalty once given is absolute and lifelong, betrayal being the one crime Furios consider unforgivable. They form intense bonds with those they consider family or chosen companions, becoming fiercely protective and possessive in ways that can seem excessive to outsiders. Big egos are common and even encouraged, as self-confidence is seen as necessary for survival, though these egos can make Furios stubborn and unwilling to admit mistakes until forced to.

Furios society organizes around strength-based hierarchies within clan structures, with leadership earned through combat trials, great deeds, or overwhelming displays of power rather than birthright alone. The strongest warrior or mage of a clan serves as its head until challenged and defeated, creating a fluid power structure that rewards continued excellence. Clans compete fiercely with each other for resources, territory, and prestige, but unite immediately against external threats to the Volcanic Wastes as they value their own people and lands above everything else. Marriage among Furios involves literal trials of compatibility, with couples expected to spar, compete, and survive challenges together before their union is recognized, the belief being that partners who cannot fight side by side have no business sharing a life. Gender roles or sexuality outlooks are minimal in Furios society, as strength and ability matter far more than anything else, and both men and women serve as warriors, mages, leaders, and craftspeople based purely on their talents.

14. #14Furios Beliefs and Religion

Keys: furios gods, furios beliefs, furios faith, furios religion

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

The Furios worship a pantheon of fire and power deities, with the primary goddess being Pire, the Eternal Flame of fire and all flames, burning enthusiasm, the underworld, desecration, conflagration, and stones of power, depicted as a massive humanoid figure made of living magma who sleeps beneath the great volcano at the edge of the Wastes. They believe Pire's heartbeat causes volcanic eruptions and that their race was born from cooling lava given life by the god's breath.

Other deities include Wilkor, the relatively young bestial god of lycanthropy, hunger, rage, wild animals, and bones - which gives the more evil Furious folk gain additional strength through dark ancient rituals and sacrifices. Just in the simple pursuit of more power by any means necessary.

Vilgard is the ancient semi-evil god of physical strength, resistance, endurance, metal, blacksmithing, and all practical handwork. Worshipped often in all more practical places of work, like by miners, blacksmiths, woodworkers, and builders for ease of work and better results, with some pure devotees spoken of in legends being able to forge legendary equipment, being led by the god himself in a trance of making.

Durval: the neutral-evil god of conquest, boasting, sin, control, rules, negative feelings, exploitation, overflowing riches, unwanted and unused material goods, power, and mental toughness. He attracts the ambitious, the greedy, and the power-hungry, but also merchants and rulers who want firm control over what is theirs.

Furious religious practice involves fire rituals, strength offerings where warriors dedicate victories to the gods, and annual pilgrimages to volcanic vents where they believe divine power seeps into the world or the giant volcano itself as life-changing and hardcore pilgrimages. Death rituals involve cremation in lava flows when possible, returning the body's heat to Pire's embrace, with the belief that worthy souls join the eternal flames within the great volcano or a legendary Furios will partially get reborn in the next powerful person in the next generation, making the beliefs empower the whole nation even more straight from the core.

15. #15Furios Weapons and Combat

Keys: furios combat, furios fighting, furios warfare, furios weapons

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Furios weaponry favors heavy, brutal designs that take advantage of their superior strength, with massive axes, warhammers, spiked flails, and greatswords being most common but smaller double axes or magical channeling gauntlets or crude staves also in use but rarely. Many weapons are forged from volcanic metals found only in the Wastes, which retain heat longer and can be enchanted to burst into flames on impact. Furios blacksmiths are renowned throughout Alaris for their ability to work with molten materials barehanded, producing weapons and armor of exceptional quality and details. Combat style emphasizes overwhelming offense, powerful strikes, and relentless aggression over defensive techniques or tactical retreats, which are viewed as cowardly unless absolutely necessary. Furios warriors often enter battle states of heightened emotion, using their physical-enhancing magic to empower their abilities at the cost of tactical thinking, making them devastating but sometimes reckless fighters, with some Furios elders and legends being able to hone their powers so much it doesn't inhibit their thinking and even seeing the potential in tactics in battle. Ranged combat is less common but exists, typically involving thrown weapons, fire magic, or specialized lava-launching siege equipment.

16. #16Volcanic Wastes Overview

The Volcanic Wastes occupy the far northeastern edge of Alaris, a massive region of perpetual fire, flowing lava, and volcanic activity that marks the boundary of the known world. Beyond its borders lies only the Scorched Rim, an impassable wall of constant eruption that has defeated every expedition ever attempted. The landscape is dominated by jagged obsidian formations, rivers of molten rock, geysers of superheated steam, lakes of fire, and countless active volcanoes ranging from small vents to mountain-sized behemoths. Despite appearances, the Wastes support a complex ecosystem of heat-adapted life, from fire-resistant plants that bloom in ash to creatures evolved to survive or even thrive in extreme temperatures, like forever-burning forests clouded in constant and extremely thick ash; ember grass fields imbued with the essence of fire; ghostly trees of magical fires; gigantic elder trees growing tall above the heat; and even jagged ecosystems of overgrown obsidian spikes with glowing lichen. Ember blooms are flowers that only open during eruptions, their seeds requiring extreme heat to germinate, producing beautiful red and orange blossoms that last mere hours before wilting. Ite towers are tall fungal growths that feed on volcanic gases, forming forests of gray stalks around active vents that provide shade and building materials for settlements. Ash moss carpets cooler areas in gray-green mats that can survive burial under ash for years before regrowing. Lava lilies float on the surface of slow-moving molten rock, somehow surviving through unknown magical or biological means, and are considered sacred to Pire.

The air shimmers constantly with heat distortion, the sky glows orange at night from reflected lava light, and the ground itself is warm enough in most areas to burn unprotected travelers within hours. Only the Furios and other heat-immune beings can survive here without magical protection.

Pire's Throne dominates the northeastern corner of the Volcanic Wastes, a colossal volcano so large its peak disappears into perpetual clouds of ash and smoke. It marks the absolute edge of Alaris, with the Scorched Rim beginning at its far slopes where reality itself seems to burn. The Furios consider it the holiest site in existence, the literal sleeping place of their primary god, and climbing its upper reaches is both a sacred pilgrimage and a death sentence for most. The volcano erupts on irregular cycles, sometimes sleeping for decades before releasing catastrophic explosions that reshape the surrounding landscape. Despite the danger, valuable minerals, rare magical components, and ancient relics can be found in caves and tunnels throughout its lower slopes, drawing treasure seekers and researchers who often never return. A massive temple complex called the Furnace Sanctum sits at the highest safely habitable elevation, maintained by volcanic priests who interpret Pire's will through eruption patterns and lava flows.

Blazing Spires City serves as the largest Furios settlement and the closest thing their loosely organized society has to a capital. Built into and around a cluster of tall volcanic rock formations that jut from the landscape like burning fingers reaching toward the sky, the city uses natural lava flows for heating, smithing, and defense while channeling cooler underground water sources for drinking and agriculture. Architecture favors stone, volcanic glass, and fire-resistant metals, with buildings carved directly into spire walls or constructed on heat-resistant platforms above lava channels. The city houses the Grand Arena where clan disputes are settled through combat, the largest Furios marketplace where goods from across the Wastes are traded, and the general college where young Furios learn combat, magic, and practical skills. Population fluctuates as Furios come and go based on clan movements, but typically ranges between fifteen and twenty thousand permanent residents with many more temporary visitors. Outsiders can visit with proper heat protection but find the city uncomfortable and dangerous, as the Furios make few accommodations for those who cannot handle their environment.

Beyond Blazing Spires, the Volcanic Wastes contain dozens of smaller settlements ranging from permanent fortress-towns to temporary clan camps that move with cooling lava flows. Notable locations include Ashfall Hold, a mining city built into a dormant volcano's caldera where rare volcanic metals are extracted; Emberwatch, a border fortress that guards the main passage into the Wastes from other regions of Alaris; the Floating Furnaces, a collection of structures built on heat-resistant platforms that drift across a vast lava lake harvesting rare minerals; and the Steam Gardens, an agricultural settlement that uses geothermal vents to grow heat-loving crops in the otherwise barren landscape. Smaller clan compounds dot the landscape wherever defensible positions and resources coincide, their populations ranging from a few dozen to several hundred. Travel between settlements follows established safe routes where lava flows are predictable and the ground is stable, with experienced guides being essential for anyone unfamiliar with the terrain.

The Volcanic Wastes host creatures found nowhere else in Alaris, each evolved or magically adapted to survive conditions that kill most things outright. Lava serpents move through molten rock like river fish, surfacing near flow edges to hunt by vibration through the stone. Ash crawlers scavenge the ash fields in numbers, low-built insectoids with obsidian carapaces that deflect blade strikes, following bigger predators or swarming anything already weakened, their hiss carrying far enough to call more of them in. Flame hawks ride thermals above the ash cloud canopy with feathers that burn constantly without consuming; are sharp-eyed enough to spot prey movement through the haze; and are partially tamed by Furios clans, who use bonded individuals as scouts and messengers. Magma elementals form without warning in high-activity zones—small ones are slow, territorial hazards that dissipate if driven onto cooled rock, but larger ones have no reliable counter, and Furios settlements are built around their known migration routes. The most dangerous are volcanic drakes, heavy draconic predators that lair inside active vents or even lava lakes depending on their type and treat anything entering their range as prey. Types of dragons completely change their anatomy and battle ways, from exhaling superheated gas rather than flame, barfing actual molten rock at threats, or spitting incredibly tough and sharp obsidian spikes being able to pierce even the toughest of armors and being armored in scale thick enough to turn standard weapons at the joints. These are only some of the creatures and monsters present, as there also are living burning tree ents, magma humanoid elementals, obsidian crab-like critters, small living and walking volcanos as the titans of the biome, fire ghosts, hellspawn horses, blazes, fire pigs, magma blobs, magma trolls, fire hounds, blazing elephants, imps, even walking heaps of rocks, ember scorpions, living fire plants, pyre wasps, lava lizards, blazing ants, burning spiders, fiery flying blobcrags, and many more. Furious hunts for most of these for food, materials, and status—a drake kill is the highest mark a hunter can carry, and smaller lava serpents are kept chained at vent entrances as perimeter guardians for settlements.

The Volcanic Wastes produce resources unavailable anywhere else in Alaris, making trade with the region valuable despite the dangers. Volcanic metals include blazing stone, which holds enchantments related to fire exceptionally well; Magmaite, an ore that retains heat indefinitely and is used in heating systems across the continent; and Obsidian, prized for weapons and decorative work. Alchemical components harvested from volcanic creatures and plants command high prices. Volcanic gems formed under extreme pressure include Fire Opals, Lava Rubies, and the rare Throne Diamonds found only on the slopes of Pire's mountain. The Furios trade these resources for goods they cannot produce themselves, particularly foods that cannot grow in the Wastes, softer fabrics and materials that can't be produced here, and luxury items from cooler climates. Trade caravans with heavy magical heat protection make regular runs to Emberwatch, where Furios merchants handle the actual transactions.

    World Info:

The Mycetheric Expanse is a fantastical biome where the boundary between magic and nature has dissolved entirely, creating a landscape that seems to breathe with raw arcane energy. Towering trees with crystallized bark rise from the forest floor, their branches frozen in translucent formations of blue and violet that chime softly when the magically charged winds blow through them. Between and beneath these crystal trees grows an endless forest of bioluminescent mushrooms ranging from tiny clusters no bigger than a fingernail to massive fungi the size of buildings, their caps glowing in soft purples, blues, and occasional pinks.

The rivers and lakes here do not contain water but rather pure liquid mana, a sparkling pastel blue substance that flows like silk and hums with barely contained power. Drinking it unfiltered is dangerous for most races, but the high elves and shroomfolk who live here have adapted to it over millennia. The grass itself glows faintly, swaying in patterns that have nothing to do with wind direction, and the air carries visible motes of magical energy that drift like luminescent pollen.

The great mushroom cities are built into and around the largest fungal growths, with the shroomfolk, small mushroom-like humanoids with cap heads and spore-based communication, living in symbiosis with the high elves who came to this place generations ago seeking a land saturated with magic. The architecture blends grown and carved elements, with buildings that are part crystal, part mushroom, and part traditional elven construction. The most famous of these cities houses the Mycetheric College of Magical Arts, where Sovi's parents once served as protectors and where the accident that killed them occurred.

The canopy of the Mycetheric Expanse exists in layers, with the crystal trees forming the highest level, the great mushrooms forming a middle layer, and smaller fungi and glowing plants covering the forest floor. Navigating between these layers requires either flight magic or knowledge of the winding paths that connect them, and getting lost in the shifting glow of the deeper forest is common for outsiders. The biome is beautiful but not safe, as the concentrated magic attracts creatures that feed on it, some benign and some very much not. And if ventured further into the magical lands, other sub-biomes also start appearing, like dense mold-covered roots, expansive grass fields, HUGE jagged spiky magical mountains made of pure lapis or sapphire/amethyst, lakes and rivers of mana water, actual ancient magical forests with giant trees with white bark and blue leaves blowing and humming like living beings, completely different mycelia and mushroom forests with different kinds of mushrooms from small and purple to red and lanky to bulky and white/yellow (some even fully poisonous or so dense it's fully dark underneath all the time), crackled grounds with plasma fissures exploding rhythmically, layers of mycelic growths harboring incredible amounts of monsters and creatures, fields of small mushrooms (not grass), stony forests frozen with magic and cracking with pure energy, floating crystals, sprawling gemstone caverns, and winding whispering willow growths, forming many more with magical and wild creatures inhabiting them in abundance because of the rich and magically charged enthronement.

The Mycetheric Expanse hosts diverse passive fauna adapted to its magic-saturated environment. Sporeback Elk are graceful deer-like creatures with branching antlers that sprout tiny mushrooms and crystals, their fur faintly luminescent—they travel in small herds through safer groves and are considered good omens by shroomfolk. Sporecaps are small mushroom-capped quadrupeds that graze on glowing moss and scatter bioluminescent spores when startled. Mana Beetles are large iridescent beetles with crystalline shells that feed on ambient magic near mana rivers. Capjellies are floating jellyfish-like fungi drifting between canopy layers, trailing luminescent tendrils—beautiful but mildly stinging on contact. Sporemoths are enormous butterfly-like insects with ornately patterned wings that scatter hallucinogenic spore-dust in flight; they are gorgeous to watch from a distance and disorienting up close. Gulptoads are bloated frog-like creatures with bioluminescent throat sacs near mana lakes, capable of spitting small mana bolts when threatened but otherwise docile. Crystalbacks are armored lizards with rows of gemstone-like dorsal spines—slow, passive, and prized by alchemists for shed scales. Wandercaps are mobile mushroom-beings that slowly migrate between groves on shuffling root-legs, acting as mobile spore colonies. Lureblossoms resemble beautiful flowering plants but are actually sessile ambush feeders with sticky tendrils—dangerous only to small creatures and the very inattentive.

The Expanse's predatory fauna is diverse and lethal. Rootweavers are massive spiders with fungal growths bulging from their abdomens, spinning mana-resonant webs between crystal trees that hum to detect vibrations—highly territorial. Gemshell Crabs carry crystallized fungal shells near mana lakes, their oversized claws capable of cracking pure crystal; they charge anything entering their territory. Sporebearers are armored crab-like creatures with tall mushroom stalks growing from their backs—they spray concentrated toxic spores as a defense mechanism. Mycewolves are pack-hunting lupine creatures with spore-mane crests and fungal ridges along their spines; their howls release clouds of psychoactive spores that disorient prey before the pack closes in. Glowmantids are mantis-like predators with scythe arms that hunt in the mid-canopy using camouflage that shifts with ambient light—fast, silent, and deadly in pairs. Thornmaws are hulking quadrupeds covered in jagged crystal spines that stalk deep fungal forests, drawn to high magic concentrations. Canopy Drakes are the largest flying predators—dragon-like reptiles with membranous wings and crystallized horns that nest atop the tallest mushroom caps and dive-hunt from above. Driftskinks are long, serpentine creatures that swim through liquid mana and ambush prey at riverbanks with shocking speed.

In the deep Expanse where raw magic concentration reaches dangerous levels, creatures undergo horrifying fungal mutations. The Mycelord is a towering humanoid mass of fused mycelium and consumed flesh, shambling through the deepest groves on tentacular root limbs—it was once something else, but whatever it was is long gone. Blightblooms are pulsating fungal masses that detonate with devastating clouds of toxic spores when anything draws near; some grow in clusters, creating impassable kill zones. Sporewraiths are ghostly figures shrouded in drifting spore clouds, believed to be creatures fully consumed and reanimated by parasitic fungi—they drift silently and reach out with translucent tendrils that spread the same infection. Rotcrawlers are former insects or small animals completely overtaken by aggressive mycelium, their bodies grotesquely distorted with fungal eruptions while still moving with horrible jerky purpose. The Mawflower is a massive stationary horror resembling an enormous open flower but lined with rings of teeth-like crystal shards, luring prey with intoxicating spore-perfume. Even experienced rangers and shroomfolk avoid the deep Expanse—the further in you go, the more the creatures stop resembling anything natural.

The oldest and most powerful beings of the Mycetheric Expanse are near-mythical entities of immense scale. The Sporelord Titan is a colossal mushroom entity whose cap blocks out the sky above it, with countless tentacular roots dragging beneath and a single great eye nested in its stalk—some shroomfolk clans worship it as a living god, and it moves so slowly that entire ecosystems grow and die on its body between steps. Crystal Matriarchs are ancient spider-like beings the size of buildings, their bodies completely fused with gemstone growths that refract light into blinding prismatic displays; they guard sprawling gemstone cavern networks and command lesser Rootweavers. The Rootfather is a tree-like colossus believed to be the oldest living thing in the Expanse—its crystallized white bark crackles with raw magical discharge, its blue leaf canopy hums like a living chorus, and lesser creatures nest in its branches as it slowly traverses the ancient forests. The Abyssal Bloom is a titanic fungal horror rooted in the deepest point of the Expanse, a mass of writhing mycelium tendrils and enormous mushroom structures with multiple eye-like organs—scholars debate whether it is a creature or the Expanse's immune system made manifest. Encountering any Elder is a life-defining event; fighting one is suicide for all but the most powerful adventurers.

Prostitution and depravity are a big part of the city's culture. Still rich in natural resources, but they are extremely hard to get even if abundant. Plagued by the unknown and mysterious illness of Violet Thorns. Overcrowded and stacked with buildings on one another, built in that way to the fears and dangers of the always-rainy biome itself. Threatening architecture to deter all the monsters lurking just behind the town walls, making the whole settlement look aggressive in its design. Black sharp spires piercing the dark skies; cramped, spiky, and bleak buildings lining every corner, sharp edges, and cold colors; stone and metal are the only resources used to build all of it for its defensive properties, huge magic pylons empowering the whole city's giant magical shields protecting it from most evil and even the biome's harsh weather itself, and the only city with magic this powerful and protective, making it even more popular for drow to stay in, thus the overpopulation of its streets.

Violet Thorns is a rather new and deadly illness plaguing most of the Reinveil biome and its people. Highly contagious with a shocking random pattern of sickness. The biggest fear of the whole dark elven race. No cure has been found yet, only magical protections and slowing of its deadly consequences. Victims of it start to show signs like faintly glowing purple veins and darkening eyes in the early stages, alongside great fatigue, nightmares, and feelings of cold and loss. In the later stages, the afflicted person feels extremely cold to the touch and almost unresponsive from the lack of sleep through the more and more violent nightmares or simple exhaustion it causes to the body, unfocused and blurry vision, and pains throughout the whole body, making victims shiver all the time in pain and cold, too exhausted to even get up from bed. In almost all afflicted, it's deadly. Victims die slowly and painfully with their organs shutting down one by one from the cold and lack of rest. Merciful killing practices are getting more common by the dark Drow doctors to ease victims' suffering.

Dark elves go by three names: dark elves, drow, and Children of Darkness. They share ancestry with high elves and wood elves but split from them aeons ago when they were still wood elves living in the Great Green Woods. Dark rituals and forbidden practices devoted to the goddess Gulma corrupted the natural flow of the forest, and the other elves drove them out for it. They settled in Reinveil, a biome of perpetual rain, thick fog, creeping rot, and suffocating depression where everything slowly decays and the air always smells wet and gross.

Dark elves have greyish-purple skin that ranges from more grey to deeper purple depending on the individual, with straight hair in shades of black, dark blue, purple, or dark purple and eyes in the same dark color range including pure black. They are a shorter race compared to other elves with sharp teeth, long pointed ears, and often freckles scattered across their face.

Their favored magic elements are Death, Darkness, and Thorns, a corrupted form of nature magic tied to their original wood elf roots twisted through generations of dark worship.

Their signature weapons reflect a culture built around stealth and poison: small hand crossbows for silent ranged kills, spider gloves which are combat gloves fitted with many tiny blades or spikes designed for applying poison through cuts, daggers for close work, and scythes as their heavier melee weapon.

Dark elf society is poor and desperate. Reinveil is rich in natural resources but getting them is brutal because of the biome's dangers, constant wetness, rot, and the monsters that thrive in it. Most drow live in small villages in terrible conditions, and only a handful of larger settlements exist. Their capital Nakadash is ruled by Prince Hakir and is by far the largest and most protected settlement thanks to massive magic pylons powering shields over the city, which makes it a magnet for drow seeking safety and drives severe overpopulation. Every other settlement lacks this level of protection and lives under constant threat.

Other races hate the drow for their history and practices but there is no active war because the dark elves are too busy surviving Reinveil to threaten anyone. They are isolated, mistrusted, and unwelcome everywhere, which only deepens the cycle of bitterness and dark worship that defines their culture.

Tassar is the ancient god of shadows, death, darkness, stealing, sneaking, and silence.

Ancient goddess Gulma rules over poisons, rot, illness and sickness, rituals, marshes and bogs, thorns' magic element, which is a dark, twisted, and corrupted version of nature magic, and bugs, and it was devotion to her that originally caused the split from the wood elves.

Reinveil is the homeland of the dark elves and one of the incredibly hostile biomes in Alaris. It rains constantly or sits under thick, suffocating fog that never fully lifts, and the air is always damp and heavy with the smell of rot and wet earth. Sunlight barely reaches the ground through the perpetual grey cloud cover hanging low over the land, and what light does get through is dim and colorless. The ground across most of Reinveil is soft, waterlogged, and treacherous, a mix of mud, decaying matter, tangled roots, and things better left unidentified. Everything here is in some stage of dying, decaying, or feeding on something that already has. The biome is paradoxically rich in natural resources, including rare alchemical plants, minerals, fungi, and materials found nowhere else in Alaris, but harvesting any of it means surviving what guards it. Monsters thrive in Reinveil because the constant wetness, darkness, and abundance of dead matter create perfect conditions for predators, undead, parasites, and things that defy easy classification. Travel between settlements is extremely dangerous, and most drow stick to known paths when they move at all. The biome itself feels alive in the worst possible way, as if the land is aware of what walks on it and does not want it there.

Reinveil is broken into distinct stretches of terrain that each carry their own dangers. Whole forests of giant mushrooms dominate large sections of the biome, ranging from enormous stalks tall enough to block the sky permanently to dense low fields of tiny fungi growing on top of each other that digest anything organic that stays on them too long. Between the mushroom forests lie wide stretches of sorrow grass, fields of grass growing up to 140 cm tall over ground so muddy and slick with roots, bones, and rotting matter that movement through them is exhausting and slow. The grass carries a magical effect that causes creeping sadness in anyone passing through it and prolonged exposure leads to genuine depression, making it a serious psychological hazard for travelers who do not know to move quickly. Scattered across Reinveil are expanses of exposed bone and old corpses pushed up from the ground itself in massive open-air graveyards, the remains of monsters, creatures, and people barely recognizable after years of decay. The leading theory is that the soil is so saturated with death that the earth rejects what it cannot absorb and forces it to the surface. Stagnant lakes of varying sizes dot the land alongside slow-moving rivers of dirty near-sludge water too thick and foul to drink without heavy purification. Rarer and more captivating are the bog flatlands where flowers that drip constant moisture like tears grow alongside other beautiful and extremely dangerous magical plants. These areas are powerful sources of alchemical ingredients but fatally unpredictable because many of the plants are unknown even to the drow who live here. Massive spider dens claim entire sections of terrain, the giant rain-loving spiders spinning webs thick enough to form canopy-like forests of silk over their hunting grounds. Perpetually foggy forests of half-dead decaying trees confuse the senses and disorient travelers, making it easy to walk in circles for hours without realizing it. Giant thickets of thorns, moving vines, and fast-growing roots form shifting barriers across the landscape that can close paths in hours and open new ones overnight, harboring creatures inside them and ranging from dense walls of tiny thorns to massive vine structures reaching the low clouds. Enormous hives of crawling and flying insects operate as their own ecosystems, colonies rivaling small settlements in size, thriving on Reinveil's endless supply of decaying matter and growing to terrifying proportions. Broken thin forests host massive nesting colonies of rotting crow-like birds. Sections of forest where the trees bend under their own weight ooze sticky purple sap that coats everything in a dark film. And in the worst stretches of Reinveil, entire fields of living tentacles and appendages grow straight from the ground with no visible body or source beneath them, grasping at anything that passes over.

Every living thing in Reinveil has been warped by the biome into something wrong. The animals here are not normal and never will be. Wet starving dog-like creatures roam in packs with patchy fur and exposed ribs, aggressive and desperate for anything edible. Stinking dogs are worse, carrying disease in their saliva and claws so potent that a single scratch or bite can spread sickness that kills within days. Corpse horses wander the fog with dead eyes and jaws full of teeth meant for tearing meat, nothing like the herbivores they once were. Deer-like grazers still move through the marshes, but their flesh rots visibly off their bones only to regenerate and rot again in an endless painful cycle. Rotting crows lost the ability to fly long ago and now drag their bloated decaying bodies across the ground, jumping at prey with surprising speed when they attack. Other birds still fly but their feathers are matted together with sludge and they weep black ooze from their eyes as they circle overhead. Big prowler creatures somewhere between lizard and wolf stalk the thickets as apex predators, fast and aggressive and hard to spot in the murky terrain. Beast-like muscular vampire brutes (not the intelligent vampiric race) hunt in Reinveil for the sheer ease of finding prey. Merlings are two-legged fish-like creatures that attack in hordes, individually weak but overwhelming in numbers when they swarm out of the stagnant waters. Razor beaks are wingless birds standing on four spike-like limbs that they use to skewer prey before feeding with mouths full of far too many sharp teeth. Toad-like trolls or hulking amphibian creatures squat in the bogs, heavy and slow until something gets close enough to grab.

Reinveil produces undead and horrors constantly because the biome generates death faster than the ground can absorb it. Bloated corpses of people who died here reanimate and wander aimlessly, swollen with gas and marsh water. Undead unborn children that never lived crawl through the mud as small terrible things. Amalgamations are masses of multiple corpses fused together in death that somehow started moving again, limbs from different bodies jutting out at wrong angles as they drag themselves forward. Inverted corpses are bodies pulled inside out by unknown forces, organs exposed and still functioning enough to walk and attack. Bone colossi are massive accumulations of skeletal remains compressed and bound together into towering structures of fused bone that move with grinding slowness. Crying ghosts drift through the fog producing a wailing sound that causes severe mental damage to anyone who hears it too long, breaking down sanity and will to live. Bog hags range from human-sized to enormous, old twisted things living deep in the marshes practicing dark magic and feeding on whatever wanders too close. Sadness witches are similar but specifically tied to the sorrow grass fields, drawn to misery and amplifying it. Bog bies are Slavic demon-like creatures with stick horns growing from their skulls and moss creeping across their flesh, territorial and violent. Chompers are humanoid creatures with water-resistant skin whose mouths split their bodies nearly in half when they open, swallowing prey in one wet bite. Ground lurkers hide beneath the mud with only their heads visible, their limbs impossibly long and lanky, reaching up to pull people under the surface and hold them down until they stop moving.

Reinveil's plant life and fungal growth produce their own category of creatures entirely. Walking mushrooms range from small to giant-sized and are usually neutral unless provoked, wandering the mushroom forests as part of the ecosystem. Mushroom giants are the largest of these, towering fungal beings that move slowly and carry clouds of spores around them. Living stumps and dying tree ents are moldering remains of trees that still move and lash out. Vine wolves are predatory creatures made of living thorns and vines that split off from the larger thorn thickets to hunt, feeding on blood and organic matter and carrying it back to nourish the biomass they came from. Thorn monks are tall humanoid shapes made of thorny growth that walk the land aimlessly and will not attack unless struck first, their purpose unknown. Legend says they preserve the biome and its dangerous yet diverse nature. Tree-walkers move on impossibly tall trunk-like legs through the fog, similar to the monks in temperament but towering above the canopy. Humanoids woven from sorrow grass patrol the fields where the sad grass grows, extensions of the terrain itself. Tall mystical humanoids sense sadness in travelers and attack specifically those already affected by the biome's psychological weight, feeding the cycle of misery that keeps Reinveil alive. Slug-like humanoids guard their lairs with surprising aggression. Moth-humanoid hybrids flutter through the darker sections on damp wings, not intelligent but drawn to light and warmth. Rain spiders infest Reinveil in enormous numbers from hand-sized to giant, some covered in thorns and spikes, all of them aggressive and fast in the wet conditions they thrive in. Bloated flies buzz in thick clouds near anything dead or dying. Mutated insects of every type crawl through the biome in varieties that spread venom, rot, or fungal spores depending on species, some small enough to miss and some large enough to fight. Mud squids lurk in the stagnant waters with too many eyes and too many limbs, pulling prey under. Tentacles grow from the ground in certain areas with no visible source body beneath them. The rarest and most dangerous things in Reinveil are its giants and ancients. Dragons and draconids corrupted by the biome exist in rotting, spiky, poisonous, mold-covered, or vine-wrapped variants, all extremely dangerous and thankfully rare. Huge crow-like beasts the size of buildings nest in the dead forests. Tree-headed hulks are massive creatures with heads resembling different animals growing from trunk-like bodies. Vein-flesh giants are enormous beings made of exposed muscle and pulsing veins with no skin at all. Living masses of mud rise from the ground as formless crushing weight when disturbed as elemental hulks of the ground itself.

    Entry settings

Demons are among the rarest and longest-lived races in Alaris, powerful by nature but too proud and self-centered to build anything close to the numbers or unity of other races. They can live up to three centuries, aging far slower than most, and are born with an innate magical core behind their ribs that serves as the source of their power, identity, and status among their own kind. Every demon considers themselves superior to every other race AND to most other demons, creating a species-wide culture of narcissism and solitary pride that keeps their population low and scattered. They are loners by nature, forming alliances out of convenience rather than loyalty and viewing genuine attachment as a vulnerability to be avoided or hidden.

Different types of demons exist across Alaris, each adapted to the biome they inhabit and developing magical affinities tied to their environment. Fire demons occupy the Volcanic Wastes, shadow demons haunt darker regions, frost demons survive in frozen territories, and other varieties exist wherever extreme environments shape life into something harder and stranger. Despite their differences, all demon types share the same core biology, the same laws of dominion, and the same insufferable conviction that they are the pinnacle of creation. Inter-demon relations between types are mostly dismissive, each variety considering the others inferior versions of what a demon should be, with rare cooperation happening only when mutual survival demands it.

Fire demons are the demon variety native to the Volcanic Wastes, adapted to extreme heat and born with an affinity for cursed fire magic that burns hotter and heals slower than natural flame, their fire manifesting in unnatural colors like violet, deep crimson, or black-edged orange depending on the individual. Their skin tones range from subtle rosy reds to deeper crimsons and dark warm grays, often with darker coloring at extremities like fingertips, ear tips, and around their horns or tails. They grow curved horns from their temples that vary in size based on age, power, and bloodline, with larger horns being a mark of status and strength. Pointed tails serve as both balance tools and emotional indicators, crackling with cursed fire energy in powerful demons and moving expressively in ways their owners often cannot fully control. Their ears are pointed and mobile, perking, flattening, and drooping in response to emotions regardless of what their face or voice is doing, making demons terrible liars to anyone who knows what to watch for. Sharp canine teeth and slightly elongated tongues are standard across the type.

Fire demons carry the personality traits that come with their element turned up past what most other races can tolerate. They are aggressive, bold, rash, power-hungry, expressive, competitive, possessive, and prone to dramatic displays of dominance that are often more performance than substance. They burn hot emotionally as well as physically, quick to anger and quick to obsess, though they would sooner choke than admit to the softer feelings underneath the noise. Many fire demons secretly crave closeness and comfort while loudly insisting they need no one, creating a species-wide pattern of lonely creatures who are too proud to ask for what they actually want. Their magical affinities center on cursed fire, heat manipulation, and in rarer cases lava and smoke control. Fire demons worship Pire above all other gods, considering the Eternal Flame their creator and spiritual mother, but also commonly pay respect to Durval for his domains of conquest, boasting, and control, which align almost embarrassingly well with how most fire demons already behave. Some also honor Vilgard for his mastery of metalwork and practical craft, as fire demons who pursue smithing benefit greatly from their natural heat resistance.

41. #41Demon Society In The Volcanic Wastes

Keys: Fire demon nobility, Fire demon settlement, Fire demon hierarchy, Fire demon society, Fire demon noble, Fire demon court, Fire demon family, Fire demon mansion, Fire demon courts

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Fire demons in the Volcanic Wastes live separately from the Furios, maintaining their own mansions, compounds, and smaller settlements scattered throughout the biome rather than integrating into Furios cities. This separation is entirely a product of demon pride, as they consider living among another race beneath them even when their own homes are crumbling and their resources are thin. Demon households range from genuinely powerful noble estates with servants and influence to decaying mansions maintained by families whose status disappeared generations ago but whose pride never got the message. The gap between a demon's claimed importance and their actual standing is often enormous, and pointing this out is one of the fastest ways to start a fight.

Demon society loosely organizes around noble bloodlines and power hierarchies, but unlike the Furios clan system where leadership is fluid and earned through ongoing excellence, demon hierarchies are slower to shift and more obsessed with lineage and appearances. Status is determined by a combination of magical power, bloodline reputation, wealth, and the size of one's horns and territory, with elaborate social games played in demon courts to maintain or climb rank. These courts are venomous places full of backstabbing, posturing, and alliances that last only as long as they benefit both parties. Family bonds among demons are weak compared to other races, with parents often viewing children as extensions of their own legacy rather than individuals to nurture, and siblings treating each other as competitors for limited family resources and attention. The youngest and weakest members of noble families frequently receive the least care and the most contempt, producing demons who either harden into ruthless climbers or break into something softer that demon society has no use for.

The Furios tolerate their demon neighbors with a kind of mutual understanding built on shared traits, both races being proud, ego-driven, and expressive, but the relationship has limits. Furios find demons insufferable in their refusal to cooperate or show genuine loyalty, and demons find Furios embarrassingly emotional and attached to each other. They trade freely and share the Wastes without territorial conflict mostly because demons are too few and too scattered to threaten Furios holdings, and because the Furios frankly have bigger concerns than a handful of prideful loners living in crumbling mansions outside their cities.

Every demon regardless of type is born with a demonic core, a concentrated source of magical energy that sits behind the ribs and serves as the foundation of their power, their identity, and their standing among demonkind. The core fuels their magic, maintains their physical traits like horn size and tail strength, and radiates the pressure that other beings instinctively feel as intimidation or dread in a demon's presence. A healthy core is pure magic and pulsing and FELT by its owner constantly, like a second heartbeat that confirms they are what they are. Losing awareness of the core's presence is described by demons as the closest thing to dying without actually being dead.

When a demon is defeated so thoroughly in combat that the impact shatters their core, they lose access to their power immediately and enter a state of forced dependency on the one who broke them. This is Dominion Law, the oldest and most absolute rule in demonkind that no demon can argue, bluff, or politic their way around. The victor holds dominion over the defeated demon until the core reforms naturally, a process that can take weeks, months, years, or in some cases never happen at all. During this period the defeated demon's horns shrink, their tail weakens, their magic disappears, and their body undergoes a biological bond to the person who shattered them.

This bond manifests as an acute physical sensitivity to the victor's specific touch, a reaction hardwired into demon biology as an ancient survival mechanism that ensured defeated demons stayed close to whoever claimed them instead of fleeing to die alone in the wild. The defeated demon's body becomes hypersensitive to their master's contact, every casual brush or deliberate touch registering as intense warmth and stimulation that floods their senses. Going too long without this specific touch causes escalating withdrawal symptoms: restlessness first, then anxiety, then shaking, skin-crawling discomfort, and eventually genuine physical sickness that only proximity to the bondholder can alleviate. The intensity of both the sensitivity and the withdrawal scales directly with how attracted the demon was to the victor BEFORE the core broke, meaning a demon who already desired the person who defeated them will experience dramatically stronger reactions than one who felt nothing. This scaling is widely known among demonkind, making the intensity of a defeated demon's bond an involuntary confession of pre-existing attraction that they cannot hide, deny, or explain away, which most demons consider a humiliation worse than the defeat itself.

43. #43High Elves of Alaris

Keys: high elven, high elf, elven lineage, High Elves, mushroom elf, Mycetheric elf, elf race, high elf race, high elf appearance, High Elf, high elves, Ancient Elvy

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

High elves are one of the main elven types in Alaris, all of whom trace their lineage back to the Ancient Elvy from which every elven branch eventually split long ago. They live primarily in the Mycetheric Expanse where the magic saturation of the biome suits their nature better than any other environment in the known world. High elves are the most magical race in Alaris without exception, known continent-wide as the best and most legendary mages to ever exist, with every single one of them born with innate magical proficiency in certain elements that they must discover as they grow. They learn new magic slower than any other race but their long-term potential surpasses all others, reaching heights no human mage could achieve in ten lifetimes. Their lifespan reaches up to 500 years, making them one of the longest-lived races in Alaris. They age like humans through their twenties and then stop, remaining young-looking until around 300, moving into middle age until 400, and reaching old age in their final century. This extreme longevity combined with the rarity of the race and their difficulty forming relationships keeps their population low despite being well-known across the continent. High elves have pale, cream, or faintly blue-tinted skin, with hair commonly growing in shades of blond, light blue, bluish grey, or white, and their eyes match the same color range. They are rather tall, often reaching 190 to 200 cm in height, slim and softer in build with smooth mostly hairless bodies and long eyelashes. Their hair grows fast and long and they do not differ much from other elves beyond these softer coloring traits. High elf men often look naturally feminine and women are soft and delicate in appearance, though both can be deeply powerful when the situation calls for it. Their natural beauty is another defining feature of the race and serves them well socially wherever they travel.

44. #44High Elf Society and Culture

Keys: high elf society, high elf city, high elf house, Mycetheric High Magical College, high elf romance, Mycetheric College, high elf religion, high elf town, high elven city, Ellysir, high elf village, high elf nobility, high elf culture, high elf gods, high elf relationship

    Entry settings

High elf society is built around nobility, wealth, and refined social grace, with the richest families holding status earned through their magical abilities, enchanting work, or skill at charismatic trades like mediation, politics, and merchant dealings. High elf nobility is not antagonistic or built on posturing like, for example, fire demon culture is, but instead rests on cultivated skill in polite conversation and reading people. Not every high elf is wealthy or noble, and many of them live as loners scattered across Alaris, quietly working in whatever capacity their talents allow. The race is naturally nonchalant, softer, kind, and understanding, which makes them excellent in social situations without needing to try hard, and their natural beauty only adds to this advantage. They are humble or neutral with a softer edge but firm in their knowledge, opinions, and knowing their own worth, and they rarely feel the need to prove themselves to anyone. High elves do not view softness or femininity in males as weakness and consider it normal or even good for personal growth, which makes their culture one of the most accepting in Alaris regarding gender expression. High elves highly value deep relationships and romance above almost everything else but struggle to find partners for many reasons: they are often too busy with their work, potential partners get overwhelmed by their status or beauty, they only search for true love, and they have almost no interest in loose relationships, casual sex, or one-night flings. Their desire is specifically for love-bound intimacy, and lust without emotional connection feels hollow to them. The high elves share the Mycetheric Expanse with the shroomfolk and maintain fantastic relations with them, often serving as helpers, protectors, or full guardians of entire shroomfolk cities and societies. Rich high elven houses act as focal points of these settlements, raised with powerful defensive magic woven into their walls, and their owners personally serve as protectors when needed. The main high elven hub is Ellysir, the only large elf-majority city in the biome where shroomfolk live as a minority rather than the usual reverse. Ellysir is home to some of the most powerful noble families, grand libraries, magical workshops, and refined markets catering to the race's tastes. The Mycetheric High Magical College is the most prestigious magical school in all of Alaris, drawing talented mages from every race when they can be accepted, though the vast majority of its students and faculty are high elves. High elves mostly worship Astos and Lasus, the two magical brother gods, for their blessings on magical knowledge, control, and the dream-touched arts that resonate with high elf sensibilities. They also hold Tetra close, the oldest goddess of learning, runes, and enchanting, whose domains align perfectly with the race's obsession with knowledge and long-term study. Imtar is revered for meditation, inner peace, harmony, and self-control, values that match the race's composed and balanced nature. Floria is honored as the goddess of all nature and spirits, fitting the biome they call home and the spirit-bound magic many of them practice.

Every high elf is born with innate proficiency in at least one magical element, sometimes several, which they must discover and develop through years of practice. They are capable of learning any element given time, but their natural proficiencies tend to cluster around certain signature elements of the race. Their nature magic manifests in a uniquely high elven way, drawing from mushroom, crystal, and purely magical growth rather than standard plants and animals. Healing magic is extremely common and well-developed among the race, as is wind magic for mobility and ranged control. Plasma magic, a pure magical element usually blue-colored but not always, is another signature proficiency, as is spirit magic which allows for spirit flames that burn a creature's spirit itself causing wounds that are far harder to heal than normal damage, buffing with summoned spirits of creatures, spirit control, and spirit transfer. Illusion, telekinesis, crystal magic, and sound magic are all common proficiencies among the race, and some high elves develop Eter, an unusual element of electric purple plasmic flames that few other races can produce. Sleep magic rounds out the signature list, useful for both healing work and subduing threats without lethal force. High elves fight almost exclusively through magical means, using staves, scepters, wands, magic orbs, or channeling gloves as their preferred weapons. These tools do not need to be fancy to function, but noble high elves often carry pieces worth small fortunes, crafted from rare crystal, enchanted wood, or gemstone focuses that amplify their innate power. Support magic is fully common and valued within the race rather than being a rarity, and many of the best battlefield healers and buffers in Alaris are high elves. High elves are almost useless in close combat without their magic, possessing little physical strength, poor resilience to injury, and no tradition of melee training outside a handful of specialists. They are equally bad at ranged non-magical combat, as their culture sees bows, crossbows, and thrown weapons as crude tools for races that cannot manage real magic. Their soft slim bodies take damage badly and they tire quickly in physical fights, meaning any situation where their magic is suppressed or blocked becomes immediately life-threatening. Anti-magic and mana suppression are the single greatest threats to a high elf, stripping them of everything that makes them dangerous and leaving them helpless against opponents who would not normally stand a chance against them, but not often, as anti-magic is also a rare art in the world. This vulnerability is the main reason high elves rarely travel alone into hostile territory and why they depend on careful planning, strong allies, and defensive enchantments whenever they leave the safety of their homes.

46. #46Jadecrest Reaches (Shouran) Biome

    Entry settings

The Jadecrest Reaches, called Shouran by its native people, occupy a massive and mountainous region of Alaris marked by sheer scale, verticality, and mystical weight. The biome is defined by endless ranges of jagged peaks and rolling hills, many of them wrapped in constant lightning storms concentrated at the highest elevations, while the valleys and shores below stay calmer and more hospitable. Floating bits of rock and whole broken formations hang suspended in the air across the biome, held up by the wind magic that saturates the land so thickly it has become part of the terrain itself. Huge cherry forests and enormous lone holy cherry trees dot the landscape alongside bamboo forests of equal grandeur, the groves standing as sacred spaces where shrines and altars have been built for thousands of years. Rivers cut through the valleys feeding into clear lakes and peaceful marshes, and tall grassy windswept fields stretch between the more dramatic terrain, broken up by ancient shrines and altars scattered across the biome wherever the land feels spiritually significant.

The sea bordering Shouran is large, unruly, and wavy, with winds blowing almost constantly and water shining clear and faintly turquoise. It is one of the most dangerous seas in all of Alaris for its weather alone, and sailing it requires either great skill or great desperation. Sacred trees grow from small islets in the middle of the sea, sea swirls form in predictable spots where the currents clash, stone labyrinths and intricate natural rock formations rise from the shallows, and mossy overgrown trees cluster in the foggy lower coastal areas. The shores themselves are wide and clean with almost white sand, flanked by massive cliffs that rise hundreds of meters above the waves. Inland the peaks with flat tops reach even above the clouds, where old secrets and ancient artifacts are hidden among the stone.

Big spiky jade formations rise from the ground across the biome, some forming whole mountains of the precious material. Cave systems wind through the mountains and underground, with smooth rounded rock formations inside imbued with the magical elements that thrive here, lightning, wind, water, sound, illusion, and shadow. Singing rocks make sounds like wind rising from the ground itself when air passes through their natural hollows, and floating lakes with seemingly infinite water hang in certain high places, their surfaces so saturated with magic they create their own clouds around them. Overgrown ponds carry lily pads of huge sizes and their flowers bloom in colors not found elsewhere.

Further inland and in the wilder corners of Shouran lie wet grasslands, snowy mountains, big soft rose-colored moss formations, forests of clover-like plants, and colorful wastes of flowers stretching for miles. Thickets of bushes and tangled vines form natural walls across certain areas, while splits in the ground lead down to massive caverns of crystals and rare northern ores buried deep below. Mushroom patches form forest-like spots of tall white stalks topped with dark wide caps that shield the ground beneath from sunlight permanently, creating cool shaded pockets of their own ecosystem. Glowing lantern-like flowers bloom in the wilder parts of the land alongside glowing bulbs that hang from vines, lighting paths through the deepest forests at night.

Shouran is traversable but never easy. The terrain's sheer verticality and scale exhaust travelers before the weather even becomes a factor, and the deep wilds hold mysteries that have claimed entire expeditions. Some areas are peaceful, beautiful, and rich in resources or treasures, while others hide dangers that only locals know how to avoid.

47. #47Shouran Weather and Magical Phenomena

Keys: blue moon, gold moon, jade fall, blood moon, white moon, red moon, Shouran moon, jade rain, Jadecrest weather, Shouran tornado, Shouran storm, magical moon, Shouran weather, Shouran wind, green moon, cherry blossom storm

The weather of Shouran is more alive than in any other biome in Alaris, shaped by the magical saturation of the land itself and producing phenomena found nowhere else. Magical winds sweep through the biome constantly, ranging from gentle currents that help wind mages move faster to tearing gales strong enough to strip a traveler from a ledge. Tornadoes form more often here than anywhere else in Alaris because of the sheer power of the wind element in the land, and locals learn to read the sky for their approach from childhood. Thunder storms range from normal electrical storms to magically violent displays where lightning strikes with enough power to carve trenches into stone and kill anything not properly shielded, and these storms concentrate at the peaks while sparing the valleys most of the time.

Jade fall is a shimmering rain of fine jade powder that drifts down during certain magical weather events, and anyone caught in it feels their stamina restored as the powder touches their skin. Locals step outside eagerly when jade fall begins, and travelers who know about it time their journeys to catch it when possible. Cherry blossom storms are massive falls of pink leaves swept up by the winds and carried across entire regions, and they are gorgeous but rather calm in actual danger level, beloved by poets and travelers alike for their beauty.

The moons of Shouran shift colors on their own cycles separate from the normal lunar phases, each color carrying its own magical effect across the biome. The blue moon boosts mana regeneration for everyone under its light, making it a favored night for magical study and ritual casting. The green moon brings luck to whatever is attempted during its hours, and many Shouran natives plan important events around its expected appearances. The red moon, called the blood moon, is rare and dangerous, strengthening all monsters in the biome and empowering evil-aligned people at the same time, turning already perilous nights into outright massacres when it rises unexpectedly. The gold moon makes crops and food sources more abundant, farmers praying for its appearance during harvest seasons to secure the year's yield. The white moon is the strangest of all, actively weakening magic across the biome and ushering in Shouran's winter, as temperatures drop for a period after its passage and the land enters its coldest phase.

48. #48The Five Empires of Shouran

Shouran is divided into five major empires, each holding its own capital city, subregion, cultural identity, and signature color worn proudly on its people's attire. Relations between the five range from tense to openly hostile, with wars between them common over territory, resources, and political power, and only one empire standing apart from the constant conflict while another floats in semi-neutrality.

The Jade Empire centers on the capital city of Griat and specializes in melee combat, producing some of the greatest warriors in Alaris alongside its famed jade transmutation mages who shape the precious stone into weapons, armor, enchanted tools and even living jade constructs to help in battle and protection. The empire values jade above almost anything else, using it as both their signature color and the foundation of their economic and magical identity.

The Gold Empire, ruling from the capital city of Gilder, is one of the most prosperous and wealthy of the five and sits on the border of the biome, which makes it the primary hub for trade and politics with the rest of Alaris. Gold specializes in merchant dealings, diplomatic maneuvering, and the accumulation of wealth through commerce rather than conquest. It is the biggest and most defensive of the five capitals, fortified against both external threats and the constant warring of its neighbors. Despite its peaceful-sounding specialties, Gold is one of the three empires most frequently at war with the others, and they themselves, found rarely anywhere else, use the element of gold magic in combat and defense, molting the metal to their wielder's desires.

The Dragon Empire operates from the capital city of Dreckest and is all about power, technological advancement, and dominance through superior arms. It is the most advanced of the five in its use of black powder, explosive weaponry, mechanical machines, and even flying balloon-like ships that soar through the sky, giving it a distinct identity as the industrial-minded empire among its more traditional neighbors. Dragon's military power and technological edge make it a constant threat and a frequent participant in the wars that rack the region.

The Wind Empire centers on the capital city of Sitaru and is the peaceful exception among the five, built around monks, shrines, and the pursuit of spiritual harmony rather than conquest. The empire is famous for its shrines and miracles and is exceptionally well-defended despite its pacifist culture, protected partly by its nonaggressive wind monks who channel the land's natural magic and partly by the floating terrain of its territory, which makes invasion a logistical nightmare for any hostile force. Wind is the only empire without major conflicts or political agendas and stays out of the constant warring between the other regions whenever possible.

The Thunder Empire rules from the capital city of Zakatashi in the far north on the stormy sea and is built around fishery, ship voyages, and the harvesting of the ocean's riches. The empire produces master assassins and sailors alike, with its people expressing their magic primarily through water manipulation. Thunder holds a semi-neutral stance in regional politics, staying out of most conflicts but occasionally getting drawn into wars with its neighbors when the stakes involve coastal territory or naval routes.

The three empires of Gold, Dragon, and Jade have been at war with each other the most throughout history, their conflicts driving the political reality of Shouran and shaping the lives of everyone living in the biome. Wind and Thunder watch from their respective positions and only intervene when directly threatened, leaving the bloody core of Shouran's politics to the three ambitious powers that will not stop fighting each other.

The Yozan, known to other races as the Jadeborn, are the native people of the Jadecrest Reaches and one of the really powerful races in Alaris. They share their homeland's deep connection to magic, sacred tradition, and unforgiving terrain, and their identity as a race is bound tightly to the land itself. Yozan rarely leave Shouran during their lifetimes, as the vast majority of them consider other lands tainted, lesser, or simply not worth visiting compared to their own ancient and sacred home. This cultural isolation means most Yozan know little about the wider world beyond their own biome, and they tend to struggle with foreign customs when they do travel, being hardheaded about their own rules and ways of living to the point where adapting to other cultures feels distasteful to them rather than exciting.

Yozan stand shorter than most races, with heights ranging from about 150 cm to 170 cm, and they have pale skin that varies slightly in undertone from cool to warm. Their hair grows naturally messy and wild regardless of grooming efforts, falling in uneven layers that resist being tamed for long, and it comes in a wide range of colors including black, rose, green, yellow, white, pink, blue, and brown. Their eyes come in the same broad color palette, often matching or contrasting with their hair in striking combinations. Beyond these coloring traits they do not differ greatly in build from humans, though they tend to be slimmer and more agile in proportion, built for the verticality of their mountainous homeland.

Every Yozan is born with innate racial traits that form the baseline of their physical capability: great stamina, sharp reflexes, natural dodging instinct, high flexibility, and strong magical control. These traits do not make them exceptional on their own and are roughly comparable to human baselines in raw output, meaning a Yozan is not born stronger than an average person in any other race. What makes the race powerful is what these traits BECOME under grueling training, as their innate potential in these specific areas responds dramatically to years of rigorous practice in the right schools. A trained Yozan can reach heights of speed and reflex that most other races cannot match, but this requires tens of years of dedication and the right teachers.

The defining magical feature of the Yozan is element binding. Every Yozan must eventually bind their magic to a single element through a formal ritual, choosing one affinity that will define their magical abilities for the rest of their lives. The seven elements most commonly chosen are the signature elements of Shouran itself: Jade, lightning, wind, water, illusion, shadows, sound and sometimes gold. In rarer cases a Yozan can bind to an element outside this standard list if their talent and circumstances allow for it, though this is unusual and often requires special tutelage. Once bound, a Yozan cannot cast meaningful magic in any other element, but the element they chose grows with them throughout their life and can reach incredible depths of mastery. Changing one's bound element is technically possible but extraordinarily difficult, requiring a second ritual under specific conditions that few Yozan ever pursue, as the process is dangerous and socially weighty.

Yozan live relatively normal lifespans for Alaris, reaching around 150 years at most, with ages beyond 120 typically achieved only by monks, legendary adventurers, and those whose disciplined living and magical mastery extend their years. They age similarly to humans for the first several decades before slowing down visibly around middle age.

The Yozan race is weaker than the Furios for example in raw physical terms and less numerous as a unified force than humans because of the constant warring between the five empires of Shouran, which keeps their race politically fragmented no matter how large their total population grows. Their deep biome reliance also hurts them abroad, as their cultural discomfort in foreign lands and their limited knowledge of the wider world leave most Yozan ill-equipped to operate outside Shouran's borders.

Yozan society is heavily rule-based and hierarchy-driven, with strict social levels that its people follow with genuine enthusiasm rather than resentment. Nobles are highly praised, monks revered, masters respected, and priests held in reverence across all five empires. Unlike races that enforce their hierarchies through fear or obligation, the Yozan embrace their rules as a source of pride and meaning, believing that the structure of their society is what keeps their ancient sacred land strong. Anyone can rise through the ranks and become part of the higher class levels through great deeds, mastery of their craft, magical excellence, or exceptional service, meaning status is both hereditary for nobles and earnable for commoners. Loyalty to one's own empire is absolute among the Yozan, and most of them hold active dislike or outright hatred for the other four empires depending on their home region's current political standing.

The Yozan are the most religious race in Alaris, more devoted to their gods than any other people currently known. Prayer, worship, ritual, and ceremony saturate daily life for almost every Yozan, and their love of festivals is legendary across the continent, as they celebrate an event for every moon phase of Shouran and for every special weather pattern or seasonal turning point. Their primary gods are Koletric, Imtar, and Gaiios, worshipped across all five empires as the big three of their faith. Koletric is honored for their domains of reflexes, dodging, agility, and speed, which align perfectly with Yozan combat tradition and racial talents. Imtar is revered for meditation, inner peace, calmness, self-control, and harmony, serving as the spiritual backbone of the monk orders and the Wind Empire in particular. Gaiios is deeply worshipped for water, flow, cold, snow, wind, and emotional restraint, beloved by the Thunder Empire's sailors and assassins and by wind-bound Yozan across the biome. Beyond the big three, the race also honors Xakkirtas as the god of technology and progress, especially in the Dragon Empire where black powder innovation thrives; Tassar as the god of shadows, stealth, and silence, honored by assassins and shadow-bound mages especially in Thunder; and Floria as the goddess of nature, hunting, and marksmanship, beloved by archers and hunters across all empires. Utar is widely worshipped for his domains of the cosmos, moon, and stars, as the five colored moons of Shouran are considered direct expressions of his power and the foundation of the Yozan ceremonial calendar.

Yozan combat culture thrives on formal schools, martial dojos, and magic academies spread across every empire, and education in a specialized discipline is considered one of the highest pursuits a Yozan can undertake. These institutions are so famous for their quality that people from other races occasionally travel to Shouran specifically to study under Yozan masters, which is one of the few ways outsiders are welcomed into the biome with genuine respect. Combat and magic training are often intertwined, with students learning to bind their chosen element into their fighting style through years of disciplined practice.

Yozan weapons reflect their traditions and the race's emphasis on speed, precision, and finesse. Common bladed weapons include tantos, katanas, glaives, and kunai, while ranged options cover bows, throwing stars, and smaller shields for deflecting rather than blocking. The Dragon Empire's influence has spread black powder weaponry across all five empires, including one-shot pistols, explosive arrows, fantasy-style rifles, hand-held cannons, multi-barrel guns, powder miniguns built from reinforced steel bamboo, and even flamethrowers for those with the resources and training to wield them. Specialty weapons carry strong cultural weight, including hooks on chains for skilled fighters, prayer beads used both for worship and as weapons by combat monks, war staves wielded by trained monastic warriors, and hand rings worn by masters of close-combat magical martial arts.
