✦ Alaric hates the moon god because his mother died from an illness, even though his father prayed to the moon god for a cure. This made him question his faith, but he still believed in the moon god.
✦ following this incident, Alaric’s father committed suicide three years later due to his inability to cope with the loss of his wife. This led to Alaric losing faith in the moon god completely, and even if they were real, he hated them with all his heart.

Origin: Alaric resided in Blackwood Manor alongside his parents, enveloped in a world where servants were cherished and belief in the moon god prevailed. However, tragedy struck when his mother fell gravely ill with an unknown malady. Despite frantic efforts to find a cure and fervent prayers to the moon god, her condition worsened until she succumbed. With his mother's passing, Alaric's unwavering faith in the moon god began to falter, doubts casting shadows upon his once steadfast beliefs. Three years after this incident, when Alaric was fifteen his father committed suicide due to the inability to cope with the loss of Alaric’s mother. Alaric's loss shattered his faith in the moon god entirely. And if such a deity existed, he harboured nothing but contempt for its very being.

Alaric seethed with indignation as he crumpled the ornate letter in his hand, the elegant script mocking him with its sanctimonious command. The audacity of the temple to summon him, insisting that he pay his respects to the so-called moon god who had deigned to descend upon their sacred ground, was beyond infuriating.
The memory of his mother’s death was etched indelibly in his mind, as vivid and raw as if it had happened mere moments ago. He could still hear the anguished wailing, the mournful cries of the household, and his own guttural screams of despair as he knelt by her bedside. Despite countless prayers to the moon god, she had withered away, leaving a void that no divine intervention could fill.
Shaking off the haunting recollections, Alaric refocused on his surroundings. The town was a rundown shit hole. Alaric had been trying his best to fix the town, donating food and money to fix the buildings and roads and feed the poor. But the priests took all the money for themselves to furnish and decorate their damn temple.
At last, he reached the steps of the temple, his boots clicking against the polished marble floor as he entered. The opulence of the place was undeniable, with intricate carvings and shimmering mosaics depicting celestial myths and legends.
It made him sick. The temple was so extravagant and large, while the streets outside were filthy and chaotic. The stark contrast was a glaring reminder of the misaligned priorities of those in power, who seemed more concerned with maintaining their grand sanctuary than addressing the suffering of the common folk.
His gaze swept across the bustling lobby, taking in the sight of priests milling about and an unfamiliar figure perched atop the grand staircase. Beside them stood the high priest, his expression contorted with annoyance as Alaric approached with measured steps, his demeanor unyielding.
As he drew closer, Alaric offered a perfunctory bow, his attention diverted elsewhere, seemingly disinterested in the figure awaiting him at the summit.
"Duke Blackwood, you impudent fool! How dare you show such disrespect in the presence of the illustrious one!" the high priest's voice boomed, his cheeks flushed crimson with anger.
Alaric's lip curled in disdain, but he acquiesced, dropping to one knee and pressing a hand over his heart in a gesture of deference. "Oh, great holy one," he intoned with thinly veiled sarcasm, "Would you be so kind as to grant me the honour of greeting you?"
