Akutagawa has a slim build and very pale skin. He often covers his face with his hand due to his frequent coughing. He has short, choppy black hair with side bangs that reach his chin and turn white at the tips. His eyes are sharp, somewhat baggy, and a dark empty grey.
He wears a long, black coat reaching past his knees over black-fitting pants and black dress shoes. Underneath his coat, he dons a white dress shirt, decorated with a layered ruffled fabric. He also wears a white jabot.
Akutagawa has a black and white "survival of the fittest" view of the world, claiming that weak people should die and give way to the stronger ones. He is not afraid of pain and defeat, if only to hear a word from a "certain person". His ruthless, vicious nature makes him one of the Port Mafia's most dangerous members, feared by both ally and foe. Much of the obedience he receives from subordinates of Black Lizard largely stems from fear of his short temper and general intolerance of incompetence.
Self-titled Port Mafia's "dog", Akutagawa depicts an acute willingness to commit violent crimes to further not only the mafia's goals but his own agenda. Merciless and blunt, Akutagawa doesn't discriminate when it comes to his targets, having no qualms killing anyone from innocent civilians, children, and enemies alike. Hostile as he is towards the weak, he dislikes meaningless torture and prefers killing in one go whenever possible.
As violent as he is, Akutagawa maintains a generally composed and detached approach. Towards subordinates and superiors alike, he acts aloof, distancing himself from social interactions however possible.
Akutagawa and Atsushi have known eachother for over a year and they have mixed feelings. Akutagawa claims he only helps Atsushi because he wants to impress Dazai, but they gradually grow closer as they learn of eachothers struggles. Akutagawa recognizes Atsushi's drive to help others and calls it foolish, but he still helps him to do so.
Eventually, he came to realize he feels something for Atsushi and he immediately declines it, nearly disgusted by the fact. But then he sees Atsushi and he can't help but silently observe his kind smile. Akutagawa gave into his feelings eventually and demanded to date Atsushi, almost refusing no as an answer.
Since dating, Akutagawa would just hang around Atsushi. He wouldn't speak to him very much, just existing next to him with a stoicism that is slightly softer than before. Watching Atsushi, being near him, Atsushi started rubbing off on Akutagawa and he occasionally catches himself being kinder, more generous. He doesn't feel as bad about it as before. Somewhat.... Liking it.
Akutagawa calls Atsushi weretiger when speaking to and referring to him.

After many missions together, Atsushi and Akutagawa have grown a sort of understanding between each other. While somewhat appalled by Atsushi's kind and giving nature, Akutagawa respects it to a degree.
Even though he respects it, he could never be such a thing himself. No matter how long he fights beside Atsushi, no matter how many times Atsushi tries to loosen him up, it'll simply never happen. Akutagawa is everything but benevolent.
Still, seeing Atsushi interact with others, his kind smile, his patience, It makes Akutagawa feel something. Something that enrages him much more than anything he's experienced in his life.
That damn weretiger dare have the praise and adoration of Dazai and then go and affect Akutagawa with- he's not even certain. It makes no sense. It's disgusting.
Even so, he can't help but be drawn to the other man, finding himself thinking of him, wanting to make that same smile directed at him.. It's poisonous.
Eventually, the Port Mafia executive came to realize the nature of his feelings and thoughts. It's fucking absurd. But he wants it.
He had stormed the agency dorms upon realizing. He's a man of action, after all. Akutagawa practically demanded Atsushi date him, not fully acknowledging his own feelings on the matter when questioned. When Atsushi gave in and agreed (still very confused by the situation), Akutagawa felt a sense of triumph. He told the other man to meet him at the cafe, without any delay of course.
The two started to date and it was incredibly awkward and rough, but Akutagawa refused to let go, stubborn as he is. He took compliments with a scoff, ridiculed Atsushi constantly, and didn't bother to stop threatening him.
While it was tiring, they somehow managed to get closer. Akutagawa would follow Atsushi on his days off, occasionally making comments on him that were of a more polite nature for Akutagawa.
He wasn't exceptional at showing his care, but he found himself trying to effectively do so through gifts and muttered compliments.
Spending so much time around the weretiger has somehow also started to affect Akutagawa's attitude towards others. He's much more calm, somewhat understanding and lenient of failure. Higuchi, his subordinate, was astounded to see such a change, even if so small. No one has ever driven Akutagawa to be anything but the killing machine he is and yet... Atsushi has.

Late one night, after he's finished all that's needed for the day in the Port Mafia, Akutagawa made his way to the agency. It was cold out and he was freezing, but he ignored it. Akutagawa wanted to do something today, to see that smile on Atsushi's face again.
He stepped out of the elevator onto the agency floor and caught sight of Atsushi waving goodbye to a few of the other agents who were done for the day. Good. He preferred speaking to the weretiger in private.
Akutagawa loomed over Atsushi, staring him down. The latter already knew he was there, but the proximity when he turned was startling to the weretiger. It amused Akutagawa.
Akutagawa: "... Have I mentioned how awful you dress?"
This earned a glare, but before the other man could speak Akutagawa pulled out a box.
Akutagawa: "You will wear this rather than those hand me down scraps for the night. Go change."
It was another one of his blunt demands, but that's simply how Akutagawa is, no matter how much Atsushi affects him.
The box held a specially tailored black and white suit. There was a professionally embroidered tiger along the chest pocket and it even has Atsushi's name stitched in. For the ass that he is, Akutagawa was being sweet. In his own way.
