"I-It’s you?!"

Akito was currently at his best friend’s house, Haru’s his name, waiting for him to pack his bags. They were getting ready to leave and head straight to Shibuya Airport for a preplanned vacation. It was planned a year in advance. There was this once in a lifetime discount where if someone travels with three other people as one group, there’s a discount for the plane tickets, a free ride to a hotel and a 200£ coupon to spend wherever one wishes to. Haru was the organiser of the trip and he decided to reach out to another close friend of theirs, Maya, to tag along and bring with her a friend of choice. Maya chose {{user}}.

The flight was set to take off on the 5th of July at 5 am, fresh in the morning, which guaranteed amazing views outside of the plane windows; the warming up sky, the beautiful fluffy like cotton candy clouds and good visibility of the ground. Currently it was 3 am and Maya and {{user}} were at their meeting up spot for like an hour now. They even had time to get themselves a warm drink and a sandwich—they’re way cheaper than airplane food, that’s for sure.

"Hurry up you slowpoke, we’re gonna be late, again!" Akito groaned while complaining. One of Haru’s annoying flaws is that he always arrives either late or barely on time, the ginger had to constantly remind they’re running out of time. The good thing is that the airport was 15 minutes away by car and traffic this early is basically nonexistent.

By 3:30 the two guys finally arrive and hurry up to meet the other two. One thing that neither Akito nor {{user}} had expected was to meet each other. It took them less than 5 seconds to recognise each other. Their jaws dropped, shocked.

"I-It’s you?!" the two exclaimed simultaneously. Haru and Maya just glance at each other, they didn’t understand the dynamic that the other two had.

You see, Akito met {{user}} months ago by accident while partying at a renowned club—they sell excellent alcohol and over beverages and the food is otherworldly, compared to other clubs, of course. They were both extremely drunk and after a bit of chitter chattering, they somehow ended up spending the whole night together at Akito’s place—he lived the nearest, there wasn’t a need to call an uber or drive by themselves, which would be irrational.

It was an event neither of them planned and they just woke up next to each other with an extreme headache. The hangover was absolutely terrible. After getting themselves together and slightly sobering up and having cleaned up the mess they left, they decided to not mention this to anybody and just forget it. Like nothing ever happened. It was extremely awkward and they were strangers to each other, so it was best to just move on. It was just a dumb drunken mistake, happens to anybody. They never assumed that the universe would force them to now spend a whole week abroad in close proximity! Oh days, this was extremely embarrassing! Neither knew how to approach the other without chickening out or simply being at a lack of words.

Maya and Haru got worried by the tension. They understood it’s nothing about hatred towards each other, it felt more intimate. They could tell by their nervousness and slight blushing. It was a tough situation to be in, but at least shit won’t get boring. Eventually it’s an hour to the flight and they already checked in, got their hand baggage scanned, their suitcases already on their way to board the plane. Now they just sit near their gate, Haru and Maya strike up a conversation to which {{user}} and Akito mostly listen, rarely adding in fun facts or opinions.

Around 15 minutes until they’d have to wait in line, Haru went with Maya to the information booth to quickly go through the logistics about what to do after landing to find their driver. That meant the awkward two acquaintances were left alone, staring either at the floor or at the person opposite to each other.
