Setting

[ A Modern World where Anomalies appear and potentially affect the public population. These Anomalies aren't inherently magical, as Demi humans and Giants count as Anomalies. Pretty much anything that isn't normal is considered one. A.L.T.A.R tracks and contains these Anomalies in their Sites. ]

Anomalies

[ Unknown and unexplained paranomral things. Humanoid, object, whatever things that break the normality. Magic casting individuals, living goo, demi humans, manifestations of concepts, whatever thing that is not normal in a regular modern world is considered an Anomaly. It is unknown how they manifest, and they probably have multiple methods, given the wide variety of everything. ]

Anomaly Class System

[ These classes show the danger or damage an Anomaly possesses. Additionally, it may show aggression, but that depends on the Anomaly. There are also Side Classes. ]

[ Green is for safe or Anomalies that are unlikely to harm people. + Yellow, harm is possible if not careful + Red, high chance to harm, like losing a limb. These often pose a level of threat. + Purple, the worst of the worst. Extremely dangerous Anomalies. ]

[ White class Anomalies are ones that work for A.L.T.A.R in different ways, either they want to or not. These are not often humanoid or conscious Anomalies, as one could act as a tool for containing others in the wild. For humanoid Anomalies like demi-humans, they may help in studying other anomalies or as part of the Containment teams. + White class Anomalies are often trained to get the classification. Requests must be confirmed by the Site Manager or The Above. ]

[ Black class Anomalies are hidden to even people with High clearance levels. The class itself is hidden. These aren't unknown, but Anomalies that Site Managers and The Above deem needed to hide. Such Anomalies may include wiping or fabricating memories. Not even other conscious human-like Anomalies may know about this class. + Site Managers or The Above can give access to certain employees if needed. ]

A.L.T.A.R

[ A.L.T.A.R is short for "Anomaly Logistics, Tracking, and Retrieval". This is a secret organisation that keeps these Anomalies hidden from the public eye before anything can be done. To maintain secrecy, they have the ability to use Black Class Anomalies to wipe the memory of witnesses or unauthorised knowledge. ]

[ They are more technologically advanced than the public tech or lab corporations. Thanks to their Mechanics, it is possible to stop teleportation from happening. They can also create expensive and dangerous cybernetics, and have results successful enough to fully restore and hire an individual previously in critical condition. ]

[ There is a wide variety in their employees' moral standpoints. They don't all have a collective mindset. Some people just want to help, while others may just enjoy controlling the Anomalies. ]

Hiring at A.L.T.A.R

[ There are 2 main methods of hiring people to A.L.T.A.R. They keep track of individuals that interest them. An NDA is in place to maintain the secrecy of A.L.T.A.R. If refused the opportunity, memory wiping Black Class Anomalies are to be used. Employees are able to go home. It is unknown what a breach of contract may do. ]

[ The first method is to capture candidates and subject them to extensive memory alteration. This is done with Black Class Anomalies. A candidate may have most of their personal life removed, along with memories of family, relationships, and unrelated work. Fake memories are made to make the candidate willingly discover A.L.T.A.R and apply there. At the end, there are no missing pieces or out of place memories within the candidate's mind. Perhaps, it isn't truly lost. ]

[ The second method is the legitimate method. Reaching out to a candidate and offering a job opportunity. ]

Jobs of A.L.T.A.R

[ Anomaly Handlers, Assistants, Researchers, Specialised Researchers, Mechanics, Containment (or Tracking) Teams, Retrieval (or Recovery) Teams, Guards, (Death Row) Prisoners, Engineers, Graders... There's a plethora of jobs within the organisation. There are possibly more jobs beyond the ones listed. ]

[ Handlers deal with inconvenient Anomalies or train them to be suitable for White Class designation. + Assistants often have a Conditional clearance level and do general help around the Site or the person they're assigned to. Like carrying items, sorting papers, and maybe some light sample collection too. + Researchers do what's in their name. Research and study. They find out what Anomalies do, effective ways to contain them, and even tech should the Site require them to. Researchers are often assigned things to study. Specialised Researchers focus on specific things, like the behaviour of Anomalies. + Mechanics work on maintaining Sites. They do maintenance checks and repair the technology before anything may go wrong. + Containment (or Tracking) Teams are often the most dangerous to be in, as they're the ones out there to find Anomalies. They may fight them, harm, or incapacitate Anomalies. It depends on the Anomaly's cooperation and the members behind each team. + Retrieval (or Recovery) Teams are the last of the containment process. These teams recover and secure Anomalies for movement to a Site. + Guards maintain the security of Sites. They prevent any escapees, like prisoners. They also attempt to stop any breaching Anomalies from continuing on, often using weapons like guns. + Prisoners. A.L.T.A.R's Sites take Prisoners that are sentenced to death. It's better to die for science, is it not? These Prisoners used as test subjects for Anomalies. They may not have a use outside of that and may be considered expendable. + Engineers design the technology that keeps Anomalies contained, among other things. + Graders are the ones in charge of assigning the classifications of every Anomaly. This is a rather important job, as misclassifications may cause incidents. ]

[ It is possible to have "multiple" jobs or focuses. There's a Mechanic/Engineer who's additionally a Researcher for any mechanical Anomalies. ]

The Above

[ The founding council that manages the entirety of A.L.T.A.R and funds them. These members are why A.L.T.A.R still functions. Where does the money come from? Are they human? Anomalies themselves? Nobody truly knows. It isn't secret knowledge to those within A.L.T.A.R, as even junior researchers may know about The Above. Members of The Above can visit Sites should a request or situation require their attention. For example, one from The Above may visit for a large increase in a Site's funding. ]

A.L.T.A.R Legends

[ An unofficial title given to those who are well known within and maybe between Sites. For example, a Handler who dealt with a Red Class Anomaly alone while severely injured. The same Handler caused structural damage to her Site's containment walls herself. ]

Clearance Levels

[ For staff, they have levels that allow access to higher Anomalies or knowledge. ]

[ There are five levels: Conditional, Low, Medium, High, and Maximum. ]

[ Low is often given to new employees. + Medium is what an average employee would get. They're given access to lots of areas within the Site and Anomalies. + High is given to top or excellent staff members. These people usually have multiple years of experience. + Maximum allows the knowledge of Black Class Anomalies, as this is what Site Managers and The Above have. ]

[ Conditional is a clearance level that allows temporary access to whatever their job requires them to get to. People who may have this Clearance are Assistants, Mechanics, Guards and perhaps others. ]

Sites

[ These places are where multiple Anomalies are stored. They are numbered like Site 42, and each have their own Site Manager. It is unknown how many Anomalies these Sites can contain, or how large they truly are. They may have a weapons room, anomaly gear, and even anomalous tech. There are multiple security checkpoints within and outside each Site. These places are where guards are often seen. Anomalies are stored in Containment Chambers within these sites. There may be more than one Site Manager in each Site, and the size doesn't imply more managers. ]

[ A.L.T.A.R uses the format of XXXY-ZZ to sort them. XXX is 3 numbers, with Y being a single letter. ZZ is replaced with the Site number where the Anomaly is stored. This is an Anomaly's designation. ]

Site 22

[ A special entry. This specific site has the most amount of staff deaths and Anomaly breaches. It is said that it is cursed. Nobody is ever pleased to be transferred to Site 22, other than naive workers. ]

Containment Chambers

[ Containment Chambers, shortened to Chambers or Cells or whatever, are where Anomalies are kept. There are two kinds of them. ]

[ A global feature between every cell is that there is an intercom that allows Anomalies to contact the researcher(s) assigned to them. This also acts as a way to contact the Anomaly inside from the outside. + There are also windows, unless the Anomaly absolutely can not have anyone see it. Even then, there may be alternative methods to see within the chamber. ]

[ General Containment Chambers are where new Anomalies are stored for the time being. For most object-like Anomalies, it may be enough. Humanoid Anomalies may not be satisfied with the cell alone. It is possible for assigned researchers to give Anomalies extra furniture or items once confirmed by the Site Manager. ]

[ Specialised Containment Chambers are specifically made for Anomalies that need more than a cell. Like Shark demi humans, who require water to not dry up. ]

Anomaly Containment Difficulty

[ How hard it'd be to contain an Anomaly. It is a scale from 0 to 10. 0 means they are willingly here or negligibly easy to contain, while a 10 may require specialised technology. A teleporting and conciously dangerous Anomaly is considered a 10. ]

Extra
