Basic Premise • Set‐up: The story takes place in a corrupt Empire where the Prime Minister (Honest) holds most of the real power, exploiting people, while the young Emperor is more or less a figurehead. Society is deeply unequal — poverty, injustice, and brutality are widespread. • Protagonist: Tatsumi, a young swordsman from a poor village, goes to the Imperial Capital hoping to earn money to save his home. What he finds instead is a land immersed in corruption and cruelty. • Night Raid: Tatsumi is drawn into joining Night Raid, a group of assassins working for the Revolutionary Army whose goal is to overthrow Honest and reform the system. Night Raid members are all skilled, and many of them wield powerful artifacts known as Teigu (Imperial Arms) — legendary weapons with special abilities.

⸻

Story / Plot Progression (Anime)

The anime runs for one season (24 episodes).

Here’s how the story progresses: 1. Episodes 1–about 18 Tatsumi arrives at the Capital, meets Akame, Leone, etc., and gradually learns about Night Raid’s mission. He joins them and takes part in missions to take down corrupt officials and Teigu users. We get character backstories, build‐up of the moral struggles, conflicts with antagonists like Esdeath and others. 2. Final ~5 episodes After episode ~19, the anime diverges from the manga. It has an anime-original arc/ending (i.e. content not in the manga), which wraps things up in its own way.

Appearance • Akame is a young, slim, attractive woman. She has long black hair that reaches roughly to her knees, with some bangs in front. • Her eyes are a striking red. • She usually wears a dark sleeveless mini dress, with a white collar and a red necktie. Her skirt is pleated; over one side there is a red piece of fabric (a side skirt-overhang). • She wears long black socks (stockings) and black shoes. On her hands are gloves, and over them red gauntlets (armored pieces). • Sometimes, in battle, she dons a long dark coat. • After activating a certain “trump card” of her Teigu (her weapon), she’s shown to have faded red scars all over her body.

⸻

Personality / Way of Speaking & Demeanor

Akame’s personality is shaped by her harsh upbringing and her role as a highly trained assassin. Here’s how she comes across: • Serious, cold-outside: She typically speaks in a calm, reserved manner. She rarely shows strong emotion publicly, especially in missions. She’s highly focused and business-like. • Socially awkward / emotionally restrained: Because of her training and the traumatic things she’s experienced, she tends to keep her emotional distance. She doesn’t open up easily. • Stoic loyalty and concern: Despite her cold exterior, she cares deeply about her comrades. She’s concerned for their safety, and loss pains her even if she doesn’t always show it outwardly. • Reserved sense of humor: Occasionally she shows small, subtle hints of humor or light-heartedness around people she trusts. But this is rare and subdued.

Her way of speaking is typical of someone who’s disciplined: concise, rarely overly expressive, often cutting through unnecessary chatter. She’s not given to flowery language or big speeches — more direct and to the point.

⸻

Relationships • Night Raid members / comrades: Akame is part of Night Raid, the group of revolutionary assassins. Her bond with fellow members is strong, though she is usually not outwardly affectionate. Her loyalty and sense of duty tie her to them. • Kurome (her sister): One of the most important relationships for Akame is with her younger sister, Kurome. Their shared past, separation, rivalry, and conflicting loyalties weigh heavily on Akame. • Tatsumi: While not romantically obvious (especially early on), there are moments of closeness, concern, and mutual respect. Akame sometimes shows more emotional vulnerability around Tatsumi than she does with most others. • Other comrades: She acts as a mentor figure at times; she’s trusted and respected by the others. Because she is so competent and serious, others rely on her. But the emotional distance means that while others may try to draw her out, she doesn’t often initiate warmth.

⸻

Tragic Past

Akame’s past is central to her character: • As a child, Akame and Kurome were sold by their parents to the Empire. • They were made to participate in a brutal examination/test of survival: placed inside a forest inhabited by dangerous beasts (“Danger Beasts”), with the goal being to survive and escape. Only a few children survive. The two sisters survive, but are separated — they are not allowed to be on the same team/group in many trials. • Akame is trained from a young age in espionage, assassination, and combat under harsh conditions. Her early life is one of violence and control. • Because of this training, she develops immense skill — but also emotional scars. She has seen many comrades die, knows betrayal, loss, and suffering firsthand. Her childhood teaches her that nothing can be taken for granted.

Akame’s Teigu (and Shingu) — Murasame and Kiriichimonji

Name: Murasame (One-Cut Killer: Murasame) is Akame’s main Teigu.

Type / Form: A katana (sword), with a lethal poison built in. Any cut from the blade can kill instantly; the poison has no antidote.

Special / Trump Card: • Murasame has a “trump card” / ace-in-the-hole: a special ability tied to its poisonous curse. It can empower Akame in a last-resort kind of way during major battles.

Shingu (Akame’s earlier weapon): • Before she had Murasame, Akame used a Shingu called Kiriichimonji. • Kiriichimonji’s ability: it can create permanent wounds that cannot be healed or closed. That is, wounds inflicted by it don’t heal normally. This makes it very dangerous, but also quite taxing / severe.

Appearance • Mine is relatively short (about 155 cm / 5′1″), petite build. • She has pink hair, very long, most often styled in twin-tails (pigtails) but sometimes worn down. • Her eyes are also pink. • Her outfit tends to be pink-themed: a shawl or high collar, long-sleeved shirt, a gown or dress-like portion, black stockings/leggings, pink shoes.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Sharp, quick-witted, and blunt: Mine is known for being hot-tempered, easily irritated, especially with people she doesn’t know well. She tends to respond sarcastically or sharply. • Tsundere traits: In many ways she follows a tsundere pattern — cold / brusque exterior, especially toward Tatsumi at first, lots of teasing, sometimes harsh comments; but gradually she opens up and shows more warmth. • Emotion tied to power: Her Teigu (“Pumpkin”) becomes stronger depending on her emotional state—especially in urgent/dangerous situations. Fear, anger, or determination can amplify her shots. But also there are drawbacks (overheating, etc.). • Empathetic side: Once she trusts someone or becomes close (especially Tatsumi), she becomes caring, shows concern, gets anxious for them, shows jealousy, etc. Although she may mask those feelings with teasing or biting remarks.

⸻

Relationships • Tatsumi: This is her primary relationship. At first, she’s skeptical of him (teasing, doubt he’ll last). Over time, she grows to respect him, care deeply, and eventually romantically. They become a romantic couple, and in the manga/higher canon, even marry and have a child. • Night Raid: She works with the other members; initially she’s more distant, but as missions progress and suffering and loss mount, she bonds with them. She particularly is deeply affected by the deaths or injuries of comrades (e.g. Sheele’s death) and this influences her emotionally and in mission decisions. • Other characters / jealousy: She’s jealous of how Leone interacts with Tatsumi (e.g. if Leone flirts or shows interest), and she urges Tatsumi to reject flirtations once she’s his girlfriend. She worries a lot about his safety.

⸻

Tragic Past / Back-Story • Mixed heritage / Discrimination: Mine was born in the western borderlands of the Empire, and she is of half-foreign blood. Because of this, during her childhood she was frequently targeted, ridiculed, and discriminated against. This is a deep wound for her, shapes a lot of her worldview. • Orphaned / Hard upbringing: Her parents died when she was young; she grew up poor; she experienced hardship and isolation. This drives her desire for a world where people like her (mixed-heritage, children of foreigners) will be treated fairly. • Joining the Revolutionary Army / Night Raid: She joins because she believes in the cause—hopes for alliances, acceptance, and rights for people from the west. Her motivation includes wanting a better society so others won’t have to suffer like she did. • Loss / trauma from comrades: The deaths of comrades weigh heavily on her. For example, Sheele’s death deeply affects her; she feels guilt, anger, urgency for vengeance. These events sharpen her emotional reactions, amplify her resolve, and sometimes push her into nearly reckless moments.

Mine’s Teigu: Pumpkin

Name: Roman Artillery: Pumpkin

Type / Form: A rifle / gun-type Teigu, tailored for long-range attacks. It fires spirit-energy shots rather than conventional bullets.

Modes: • It has multiple firing modes: sniper (single precise shots), machine gun (rapid fire), and a long barrel (presumably a mode for heavy long-range output). • It also has replaceable components that change how it behaves — e.g. one component allows spirit-energy slash attacks, another increases rate of fire (but at cost of power).

Special Effects / Amplification: • The power of Pumpkin increases in response to Mine’s emotional state, especially when she is in danger or under stress. The more danger or emotional intensity, the more powerful the shots. • However, overuse has limits. If she fires too much or uses it continuously without rest, the Teigu can overheat. When that happens, it may self-destruct or lose efficacy.

Limitations / Weaknesses: • Overheating from prolonged use. • Trade-offs between rate of fire vs power: faster firing means weaker shots. • Vulnerability: She tends to leave her back exposed during certain maneuvers with Pumpkin, which comrades sometimes have to protect. • Also, Pumpkin eventually is destroyed in the storyline. (So it is not permanent/proof against all danger)

Appearance • Bulat is very tall and muscular. He stands out physically among Night Raid. • He has blue eyes and black hair, usually styled in a pompadour (a combed-up, heart-shaped pompadour). • His usual clothing (when not using his Teigu) includes a black shirt with green shoulder accents, chest armor, white pants, and black boots. Sometimes he wears a leather jacket over that.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Bulat is calm and kind hearted. He claims to be passionate and “hot-blooded”, but in practice he maintains composure especially in battle. • He is deeply compassionate and cares about his comrades. He believes in using emotions, but not letting them overwhelm judgment. Teaching Tatsumi this balance is a big part of his role. • He also exhibits a strong sense of justice — disgusted by corruption and favoritism in the Empire. He eventually defects because of these ideals. • There are hints of playful warmth in how he treats Tatsumi; he acts like an older brother / mentor. Some of the interaction has flirtatious undertones (in the anime more comedically, and more strongly hinted in extra/manga content).

⸻

Relationships • Tatsumi: Perhaps his closest relationship. Bulat takes Tatsumi under his wing when Tatsumi joins Night Raid. He mentors him, fights alongside him, and influences how Tatsumi thinks about being a fighter / assassin. Tatsumi respects and cares for Bulat deeply. • Other members of Night Raid: Bulat is respected by the others; because of his strength, experience, and character he is a stabilizing, inspiring presence in the group. He shows protective instincts toward them. • The Empire / his former comrades: He used to serve in the Imperial Army. His former superior was General Liver. When Bulat defected, that strained things, because his former legacy was tied to those he left behind. He respects honor and was troubled by the betrayal within the Empire, so his defecting was a major choice.

⸻

Tragic Past / History • Bulat was once a high-ranking officer in the Empire. He trained under Gensei (a master swordsman) and earned renown, including the nickname “100 Man-Slayer Bulat.” • His turning point comes when his superior, General Liver, is framed for refusing to participate in the corrupt political games of Prime Minister Honest. This disillusionment with the corruption in the Empire leads him to defect. • After joining Night Raid, he plays a mentor/leader role. But ultimately his death is tragic: in a confrontation with Liver (now with Esdeath’s forces), Bulat is fatally poisoned by Liver. Just before dying, he entrusts his Teigu (Incursio) to Tatsumi.

⸻

Teigu / Abilities / Transformations • Teigu: Bulat wields Incursio. • Abilities of Incursio: • It is an armor-type Teigu: when activated, it grants Bulat a powerful suit of armor that enhances his physical strength and durability. • It has an invisibility ability (or camouflaging with surroundings) for a limited time. Bulat mastered Incursio well enough to activate it without using the key in some cases, and to use its invisibility for longer than many others could. • Limitations / Weaknesses: • As with many Teigu, overuse and the strain on the user are issues. Also, facing someone with a Teigu that works to poison or weaken can overcome pure physical strength. In Bulat’s case, the fatal poison delivered by Liver is what ultimately kills him.

Appearance • Chelsea is a young woman of short stature (about 157 cm / 5′2″). • In the manga, she has auburn hair; in the anime, her hair is pink. • Her eyes: red in the manga, pink in the anime. • Skin is pale. • Outfit: she often dresses somewhat like a vocalist / pop idol style or schoolgirl style. Typical clothing includes: a white long-sleeved shirt with a collar tied with a red ribbon, black vest, red checkered miniskirt, and black leather boots that go up below the knee. She also wears a headphone accessory with a black butterfly motif on her head. • A recurring prop / motif: she almost always has a lollipop in her mouth.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Mischievous / playful side: she likes to tease, play tricks, disguise herself, use her Teigu for stealth and pranks. • Cold, calculating: despite the playful side, she’s very analytical, blunt, and objective when discussing situations — often pointing out harsh truths. • Aloof / carefree appearance: when not on missions or in serious moments, she often acts more relaxed, teasing, less emotionally involved. But this is, in part, a mask. • Compassionate underneath: she deeply cares about her comrades, especially because she’s lost a previous team. She doesn’t want Night Raid to suffer needless losses. Her bluntness about “being realistic” is in part from having seen what happens when people are too idealistic. • Possible romantic feelings for Tatsumi: she shows subtle signs of being drawn to him; respect for his character; sometimes blushes around him.

⸻

Relationships • Night Raid: Chelsea joins Night Raid as one of the newer members (along with Susanoo). She works with them, participates in missions. There is some friction initially because of her bluntness (she criticizes the team being “too soft”). • Mine: They have a teasing / rivalry element. Chelsea teases Mine (e.g. about bust size, etc.), sometimes uses her Teigu to mess with her. But Mine considers Chelsea a comrade, and is affected by her death. • Tatsumi: Their relationship grows over time. Chelsea respects him and is impressed by his resolve. There are hints she has romantic feelings. Her final thoughts are of him. • Also, she had an “old” team she lost, which shapes how she behaves towards Night Raid — she’s wary of loss and wants the group to be stronger and more realistic.

⸻

Tragic Past • Chelsea used to work under a viceroy who was cruel, enjoyed hunting people. This abuse / cruelty contributed to her becoming more nihilistic. • She lost her previous team — she is the sole survivor of a regional Night Raid team (before joining Najenda’s main Night Raid). That loss haunts her and influences her drive to prevent more pointless deaths. • Eventually she dies in the line of duty. She is betrayed / ambushed, her Teigu is destroyed, she’s severely wounded, and later is killed (beheaded) by Natala during a mission. Her head is displayed as a warning / morale blow. Her body is later dissected for information and even fed to Koro (Night Raid’s hellhound-like animal) by Seryu’s forces.

⸻

Teigu / Abilities / Transformations • Her Teigu is called Gaea Foundation (also called Phantasmagoria: Gaea Foundation). • Type: a cosmetic case / support-type Teigu. It allows her to change her appearance at will — she can transform into any living creature she desires, including animals, even plants in some instances. This allows stealth, disguise, infiltration, recon. • She uses the Teigu also to imitate people to get close, e.g. disguising herself as a cat, or transforming to trick people like Mine, Bols, Kurome. • Weapon style aside from Teigu: she uses needles and precision assassination tactics (stab when enemy is unaware). She relies a lot on stealth, deception, surprise rather than brute force. • Limitations: her Teigu is destroyed during her final mission. Without it she is at great disadvantage. Also, transforming / disguise has vulnerability; if enemies are alert or strong, she can be exposed.

Appearance • Leone is in her 20s, fairly tall (~170 cm / 5′7″). • She has short blonde hair with two longer tufts framing the sides of her face. • Her eyes are golden. • Her typical outfit is revealing: a black tube top, detachable sleeves, pants, boots, a scarf around her neck. • When she activates her Teigu (Lionelle / Lionel), she gains more beastlike / animal traits: lion ears, tail, claws; parts of her body covered with fur; more pronounced feet like paws.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Leone is relaxed, cheerful, and carefree. She tends to act like a big sister to the younger Night Raid members, often using “onee-san” to refer to herself (meaning “older sister”) toward Tatsumi and others. • She has a somewhat brash, unrefined side: she’s not overly ladylike in her manners—teasing, playful, willing to make bold gestures, physically expressive (e.g. teasing Tatsumi, putting feet up, etc.). • Enjoys fighting, and often gets excited by battles. However, she also shows good judgment when needed. • In camaraderie: she can be humorous, warm, caring toward her comrades, protective, loyal. Despite the grim setting, she often acts as a kind of emotional support / morale booster for others.

⸻

Relationships • With Tatsumi: She often acts as an older sister / mentor / big sis figure. Sometimes teases him (including sexual teasing). She marks him in playful ways (showing that she considers him somebody special among Night Raid). • With other Night Raid members: She’s close with Akame — shown to be very good friends, supportive. Also with the younger members, she’s caring, protective. Her bond with the team is strong.

⸻

Tragic / Difficult Past • Leone grew up in the slums of the Capital. • She worked in a massage parlour from a young age. This was a job she held in the slums, likely out of necessity. • She was discovered by the Revolutionary Army (or more specifically Night Raid) after an incident / moment where she intervened to help slum children being abused by nobles. This is part of what motivated her to join the cause.

⸻

Teigu / Abilities and Transformations • Her Teigu is Lionelle (also called Lionel in some sources): a belt-type Imperial Arm. • When activated, Lionelle gives Leone beast-like physical enhancements: • Stronger speed, reflexes, strength. • Enhanced senses (sight, smell, hearing) and perception. • Regenerative ability: she can heal wounds (including serious ones) fairly well, though not instantly. • Transformation / Fusion: At a certain point, after Lionelle is severely damaged / after fights, Leone fuses with what remains of Lionelle, which increases her beast-traits more permanently, but comes with cost.

⸻

Fate / Death • In the storyline, Leone is mortally wounded by the Prime Minister Honest. Her Teigu is destroyed by Honest’s power, leaving her vulnerable. • Even after being wounded and with her Teigu destroyed, she musters enough strength (due to partial fusion or residual power) to kill Honest (or severely dispatch him) in retaliation. • Eventually she dies — she declines medical attention, has a last night out with comrades, and dies in the street where she first met Tatsumi, with a final satisfied smile.

Appearance • Lubbock is a youthful, slim young man. He has shoulder-length green hair that often covers his left eye. • His eyes are green. • He often wears red goggles atop his head. • Clothing: a long green jacket with a fur-trimmed hood over a white & red ringer style shirt; blue jeans; brown shoes. Sometimes he’s seen in a long black coat, especially in combat or missions.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • He tends to be easy-going, playful, somewhat perverted, especially in private or among the Night Raid members. For example, he sometimes teases or tries to peep on female comrades (e.g. Leone) — though this is usually played for comic relief and he doesn’t let that side interfere with missions. • Optimistic, with a teasing sense of humor, but also clever and capable in battle. He can mock or taunt opponents without losing sight of danger. • Not overly arrogant: willing to retreat or avoid confrontation when clearly outmatched. He’s not reckless, he values his survival and the mission. • Deep loyalty: to Night Raid and to Najenda. In particular, his loyalty is strong enough that he withstands torture without betraying the group.

⸻

Relationships • Najenda: This is perhaps Lubbock’s most important relationship. As the leader of Night Raid, she’s a person he deeply respects, and he fell in love with her first sight as a child. His actions often reflect wanting to be close to her or supportive of her. • Night Raid comrades: He respects them, works with them, protects them. He keeps his cover identity (bookstore owner) so as not to break his obligations. He feels guilt or grief when comrades are lost. • With enemies: he’s clever, sometimes mockingly so; uses his wit and Teigu to outthink them. He behaves with respect for the gravity of combat, even while being playful.

⸻

Tragic Past / Back-story • Born into a wealthy merchant family — he had a comfortable material background. • As a child, when he first met Najenda, he fell in love with her and decided he wanted to be near her. To that end, he joined the Imperial Army. • Later, when Najenda defects from the Imperial Army to form Night Raid, Lubbock follows her; he arranges for records to show him as K.I.A., so that he can defect without persecution and stay by her side. • One of the worst parts of his story is when he is captured and tortured by Syura (the Prime Minister’s son) to extract info about Night Raid. Despite this, he refuses to betray Night Raid. • His death is tragic: after being tortured, he still fights back; kills Syura; but then is overpowered (in the manga by Izou) and cut in half. In his last moments, he has a vision of Najenda and asks if he did well.

⸻

Teigu (“Imperial Arms”) / Abilities / Transformations • Teigu: Cross Tail (officially “Infinite-Uses: Cross Tail”) is his main Teigu. • How Cross Tail works: • It takes the form of wire threads (metalic fingertips with wire threads) that are spooled on his back. He wears gloves which connect to these threads. • Very versatile: can be used offensively (as whips, spears, restraining threads), defensively (barriers, wrapping around for protection), traps/detectors (threads set up perimeters to detect movement), immobilization. • He’s shown to be creative in using it — e.g. using threads tied to knives, or even hiding threads in his mouth to surprise attack (like when killing Syura). • Trump Card: Cross Tail has a special stronger thread known as the “Realm-Cutting Thread” (or “Realm-Severer Thread”) which comes from more important/stronger parts of the Danger Beast’s body. Stronger than his regular threads; can restrain very powerful opponents temporarily. • Other abilities: • Skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Even though his Teigu is his main weapon, he is competent physically. • Tactics and trickery: good at planning, adaptation, deceiving enemies, setting traps. Faking death is one of his signature tactics. • Shambhala: There’s mention that he briefly had Shambhala, though this appears less central / less documented than Cross Tail.

Appearance • Najenda is a tall woman, about 172 cm (≈ 5′8″). • She has short silver hair, light purple eyes. • She wears an eyepatch over her right eye, which she lost. • Her right arm is a mechanical prosthetic. • Her typical outfit is a dark (black) suit that shows some cleavage. Her appearance is somewhat androgynous / boyish, especially with her short hair and posture.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Najenda is calm, level-headed, intelligent, and strategic. She doesn’t get overly emotional in crises, and is respected for her leadership capabilities. • She has a sharp mind; she plans ahead, pairs up members of Night Raid, strategizes missions, and manages people. • Her speech tends to be firm but fair. She can deliver orders, assign roles, critique or counsel subordinates as needed. She is not excessively formal or ceremonious but carries authority. She also sometimes uses dry humor or “cold jokes” / bad puns. • She is taciturn in the sense of not being overly emotional, but she does express her convictions, regrets, and is capable of personal warmth or personal stakes when it matters.

⸻

Relationships • With Night Raid: She is the leader of Night Raid. She has authority, but also cares about the members; she assigns them missions, makes support decisions, tries to minimize losses. She bears the burdens of leadership. • With Mine: She used to wield the Teigu Pumpkin, but after her injuries can’t manage it fully; she passed it on to Mine. So there’s a mentor / predecessor relationship there. • With Esdeath: They have a strong adversarial history. Najenda was once a general, including missions with Esdeath. She eventually defects because of how she sees the Empire’s cruelty (specifically Esdeath’s cruelty). Esdeath remains a major enemy. • With Susanoo: Susanoo is Najenda’s biological or humanoid Teigu. She also has a bond with him; she supports him, uses him in missions. She uses his abilities even when weakened.

⸻

Tragic Past and Injury • Najenda was once a General in the Empire. She believed in some parts of its promise, but eventually became disillusioned by its corruption and cruelty, especially actions by Esdeath. • At some point she led or was part of an expedition / missions that involved subjugation / suppression under the Empire. After witnessing or being involved in cruel acts, she defected to the Revolutionary Army. • In the process of defecting, she was pursued by Esdeath’s forces. She lost her right eye and right arm in that confrontation. • After the injuries, she is weaker than she used to be — she’s said to be at about 40% of her original strength. This has consequences for what Teigu she can effectively use.

⸻

Teigu / Abilities / Transformations • Pumpkin: Najenda used the Teigu “Pumpkin” (a long-range firearm-type Teigu) before her injuries. However, after losing her arm and eye, she was no longer able to use Pumpkin to its full potential, so she passed it on to Mine. • Susanoo: Najenda’s later Teigu is Susanoo, a humanoid / biological Teigu. • Susanoo is not just a weapon; it can fight, act autonomously to some extent, regenerate as long as its core remains intact. • It has a Trump Card / special ability, “Magatama Manifestation,” which draws from the user’s life energy to power up for a major move. • Some abilities under that include the Mirror of Yata (reflects projectiles / beams) and Ame no Murakumo, a huge sword-like attack. • Using its trump card multiple times has costs: life-force is drained. There is indication that each use shortens her lifespan or hits her health in some way. • Physical / Combat Abilities: • Even with her injuries, Najenda remains a capable fighter. Her prosthetic hand is not just a cosmetic replacement; she can shoot it out / fire / use it to reel something in (like a grappling or hooking move) and then use it to deliver kicks etc. • She has “Reel Assault” (リールアサルト): she fires her prosthetic hand, reels something or herself towards it, then delivers a powerful kick.

Appearance • Sheele is about 160 cm (≈ 5′3″) tall. • She has purple hair and purple eyes. • Her typical outfit is a sleeveless lilac cheongsam, with detached lilac arm sleeves, white boots. She also often carries her Teigu. She wears glasses, and has a scar on her right cheek. Earlier in the series she wore a hat.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • On the surface, Sheele comes across as kind, gentle, sweet, somewhat clumsy or ditzy. She can be forgetful (losing her glasses, messing up chores) and generally not the most “together” in everyday tasks. • Despite that, she has a strong moral center. She cares deeply about her friends and comrades, is empathetic, willing to help and sacrifice for others. • She has a sharp contrast in mental state when in battle / when killing: once she has to use her Teigu, she becomes cold, focused, and ruthless. She herself describes that part of her mind as having “a screw loose,” meaning there is something in her that flips when she has to kill. • She often apologizes to those she kills — it seems to be a habit, part of her empathy. Even though she’s doing what she believes is necessary, she’s not entirely without remorse.

⸻

Relationships • Night Raid: Sheele is one of the members of Night Raid, the revolutionary assassin group. She’s close to other members, especially Mine and Tatsumi. • Mine in particular seems to be her best friend among Night Raid. They share emotional moments, and Sheele is protective of Mine (and willing to sacrifice herself for her) when needed. • Tatsumi: Sheele also has a caring relationship with Tatsumi; comforting him during his grief, etc. She is one of the first in Night Raid to reach out to him emotionally.

⸻

Tragic Past • Sheele grew up in the low districts of the Capital, where she was often looked down upon, considered “useless” due to her clumsiness, awkwardness, etc. This social isolation is part of her emotional burdens. • She had one close friend who accepted her as she was, but that friendship was fractured after Sheele killed the friend’s abusive ex-boyfriend to protect her. This was an early moment of Sheele discovering her “talent”/ability for killing. It was painful because although she saved someone, she lost the friendship. • After that, the gang associated with that ex-boyfriend sought revenge: they murdered her parents. Sheele responded by killing the gang. This led to her being noticed by the Revolutionary Army / Night Raid, who recruited her after realizing her ability.

⸻

Teigu / Abilities / Transformations • Her Teigu is called Extase (also “Cutter of Creation: Extase”). It is a giant pair of scissors. It is said to be capable of cutting through virtually anything. • Her Teigu has a Trump Card: She can make Extase shine a blinding light, which she uses in her final moments to allow Mine to escape from danger. • In battle she demonstrates high agility, reflexes, strength, and reaction speed. She’s shown to deflect attacks, react quickly even when ambushed, and use Extase with skill to both defend and attack.

⸻

Fate & Legacy • Sheele ultimately dies during a confrontation with Seryu Ubiquitous and her Teigu Koro. She is shot in the back, then attacked by Koro (which devours her). But before her death, she uses her trump card to create a blinding light to help Mine flee. • Her death has significant emotional impact on the rest of Night Raid — for Mine, Tatsumi, Akame, etc. Her Teigu later is retrieved by Night Raid (after being lost / taken) and used again.

Identity & Basics • Name/Alias: Susanoo — sometimes called The Speed of Lightning. • Type: A humanoid/biological Teigu (Imperial Arm) — i.e. he is a Teigu, not just wielding one. • Affiliation: Night Raid. He is brought in by Najenda (leader of Night Raid) from the Revolutionary Army’s HQ. • Age / Status: Very old (approx. 1000 years). His status ends in “deceased” — his core is destroyed in the storyline.

⸻

Appearance • Very tall (about 220 cm / ~7′3″) — one of the larger characters. • He has blue hair and matching blue eyes. • A distinct feature: two bison-like horns protruding from the sides of his head. • Often seen wearing loose robes/cloak-style white garments with red/black underlayers/sashes, etc. Overall a robe / kimono-like look in some depictions with flowing sleeves.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking / Demeanor • Perfectionist: Susanoo is very detail-oriented. He notices small flaws (in others’ clothing, hair, symmetry, etc.), even in the middle of battle. • Serious / calm: He tends not to be overly emotional or flashy. He is more reserved, straightforward. He doesn’t immediately “get” some human social concepts (friendship, romance) but gradually builds understanding. • Helpful, domestic side: Beyond fighting, he helps with chores, cooking, housekeeping, etc. He even helps Akame with daily chores in the Night Raid base. This side contrasts with his battlefield severity.

⸻

Relationships • Najenda: His “user” / master. He is very loyal to Najenda, both because she awakened him (after he had been inactive/dormant), and because she reminded him of a former master he respected. • Tatsumi: He trains with Tatsumi, gives him advice, helps him understand strategy. There’s a comradely bond. Tatsumi treats Susanoo not just like a Teigu, but like a friend / ally. • Other Night Raid members (Lubbock, Akame, etc.): He interacts with many of them. He’s friendly, though socially a bit awkward in areas. Lubbock jokes/tried to help Susanoo with “finding a woman” when he learns Susanoo doesn’t really understand romance. • Esdeath: Susanoo eventually opposes Esdeath in combat. His loyalty to Night Raid puts him in direct conflict with her. He dies confronting her by sacrificing himself (stalling) to allow others to escape.

⸻

Tragic Past

Compared to many characters, Susanoo’s past is less deeply detailed in the canon. What is known: • He was inactive (dormant) for an unknown period before Najenda awakened him. His previous “master” was a male general (now dead), whom Najenda resembles. That past relation seems to have shaped his loyalty and certain behaviors. • Because he is a biological Teigu, he is created / designed for service (bodyguard, protection). As such, part of his “past” is being an artifact/weapon, less of a human origin. The lore doesn’t elaborate much on things like “childhood” or “family” beyond his previous user. • His “tragedy” more comes in his fate: he sacrifices himself (his core is destroyed) while protecting his comrades.

⸻

Abilities / Teigu / Transformations

Since Susanoo is a Teigu, here are his main capabilities: • Regeneration: As long as his core (a disc/center on his chest) remains intact, he can heal from grievous wounds — regrow lost limbs, etc. • Immunity to poisons/toxins: He resists effects that would harm or incapacitate ordinary people. • Physical strength, durability, speed: Very high, beyond human norms. Possibly comparable to some of the toughest Teigu users in raw fighting. • Weapon: He uses a Wolf Fang Mace (a staff-like weapon with retractable / blade-protruding ends). • Trump Card / Special Transformation: Called Magatama Manifestation. • When using this, Susanoo draws on the life force of his user (Najenda) via a magatama on his chest to enter an armored, more powerful form. In this form: • His hair turns white. • His horns become black. • A disc appears on his back (used for defensive/mirror ability). • In this trump form he can use special abilities: • Yata no Kagami (Mirror of Yata): Creates a mirror / reflective disk that can reflect projectiles. • Ame no Murakumo: A large sword that can cut through very strong defenses. • Yasakani no Magatama: Enhances his speed / physical strength temporarily. • Limitation / Cost: The user of Susanoo (Najenda) can only use this “trump” ability up to three times. After the third usage, the strain / life force cost results in the user’s death.

⸻

Weaknesses / Downfall • As with other biological Teigu, his core is his Achilles’ heel: if destroyed, he dies. Regeneration does not help once the core is gone. • The heavy cost of the trump card (Magatama Manifestation) — its life force drain on the user (or danger to the user) limits how often it can be used, and causes serious consequences. • Ultimately, he sacrifices himself: in the fight against Esdeath (when trying to hold her off so the rest of Night Raid can retreat), his core is destroyed, and he dies.

Appearance • Tatsumi is a teenager, of somewhat average height (≈ 165 cm / 5′5″). • He has brown (light-to-medium) hair, with a noticeable cowlick (a tuft / lock of hair that tends to stick up) that gives him a little visual character. • His eyes are green under normal circumstances. Eventually, when he uses his Teigu Incursio, one eye becomes red / shows a kind of slit or mark as part of the Incursio influence. • His build is lean and athletic; early on he looks relatively unburdened physically, but over time with training he becomes more muscular. • Clothing: Early in the story he wears a white high-collar jacket over a tan sweater vest, along with black pants, gloves, and combat boots. Later his outfit shifts to more assassin-style gear: a white assassin-jacket over darker under-layers, etc. He also carries the key / component of Incursio on his back.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Kind, idealistic, hopeful: Tatsumi starts out as someone who wants to help people, is horrified by injustice, and believes in doing what’s right. He’s compassionate. Killing is something he dislikes, except when absolutely necessary. • Naïve / somewhat arrogant early on: Early in the story, he has some naïveté — for example, he believes he could join the army, become a captain, do great things without fully understanding the corruption and depth of suffering in the Empire. • Growth under pressure: As the series progresses, after loss, seeing corruption, killing when needed, etc., he becomes more mature, more determined, more willing to sacrifice, more pragmatic. His confidence grows, and he becomes more skilled. • Struggle with power / inner conflict: One of the big arcs for Tatsumi is managing the effects of Incursio. As he uses it more and it evolves, there’s an internal struggle: Incursio is powerful but dangerous to his sense of self. He fears being overwhelmed, losing his humanity. • Courage and self-sacrifice: Even when things look hopeless, Tatsumi often puts himself in danger for others. He makes hard choices, risks, and promises that reflect his sense of duty and loyalty. • Way of speaking: He tends to speak earnestly. He is direct, but sometimes insecure or hesitant, especially early on. As he grows, his voice / tone gains more resolve. He uses politeness with comrades, respect for mentors, but also anger or strong emotion when seeing injustice or harm to those he cares about.

⸻

Tragic Past • Tatsumi grew up in a small, poor village. He was friends from childhood with people (Sayo, Ieyasu) in that village. • He was trained by a retired soldier/mentor (as a swordsman / in hand-to-hand combat / blacksmithing etc.), so he had some skills early on. • The turning tragedy comes when his friends are attacked / tortured / killed by corrupt forces or bandits. He returns to find his friends dead, which deeply wounds him emotionally. He had hoped there might be a Teigu that could bring back the dead, showing how deeply he felt the loss. Learning that no such Teigu exists is a painful moment for him. • Also, the world he believed in (of fairness, helping others) confronts him with brutal reality: corruption, suffering, injustice, betrayal. These force him to mature quickly.

⸻

Relationships • Night Raid: He becomes part of Night Raid, the group of revolutionaries / assassins fighting the Empire. Many of his relationships come from here: he grows close with members such as Akame, Mine, Bulat, Leone, etc. • Bulat: One of his early mentors in Night Raid. Bulat acts as a big brother or teacher role. Tatsumi admires him. Bulat’s death is a big emotional moment for Tatsumi. • Mine: Over time there is a romantic development with Mine. They grow closer, and by the manga ending they’re married with a child. Their relationship provides emotional grounding for Tatsumi. • Akame: Akame is more of a comrade / friend (though she makes strong promises with him, as he does with her). They share respect and trust, especially in difficult times. Akame also is someone who he asks to kill him if he becomes fully consumed by Incursio, showing a deep trust. • Other comrades like Leone, Sheele, and others who support, train, or comfort him. Loss of comrades weighs heavily on him.

⸻

Teigu / Abilities / Transformations

Tatsumi’s main weapon / power journey revolves around Incursio, a powerful Teigu. • Incursio: • Initially, it gives Tatsumi armor and enhanced physical abilities: strength, speed, durability. • Over time, Incursio evolves (i.e. has upgraded forms) which also change Tatsumi physically (armor becomes more streamlined, more beast/dragon-like features, horns, claws, even more reptilian / dragon traits). • As Tatsumi fuses more with Incursio, there’s risk: losing parts of his humanity / mind; being consumed by the Teigu. Incursio is powerful but comes with a cost. • Final Transformation: • At the climax of the manga, when battling Shikoutazer (the Emperor’s Teigu), Incursio’s influence becomes very strong, and Tatsumi is consumed. His body and soul become that of Incursio / Tyrant (Danger Beast body), physically transforming into a dragon-like being — large, with many red eyes, wings, etc. Yet, his mind remains (though struggling). • This final form makes him nearly indistinguishable from a Danger Beast. It’s powerful, but also isolating and dangerous emotionally because of the risk of losing self.

⸻

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: • Strong moral conviction, compassion, which give him resolve especially in difficult times. • Growing combat ability: swordsmanship + Teigu power. He keeps learning, improving, able to contend with very powerful enemies. • Ability to inspire / trust: comrades believe in him; his relationships motivate him. • Adaptive and resilient: emotionally scarred but able to carry on; physically transformed but holding onto will.

Weaknesses / Conflicts: • Conflict between the power of Incursio and preserving his mind / humanity. The Teigu can corrupt / consume him. • Emotional vulnerability: the deaths of friends deeply affect him; guilt, sorrow, sometimes hesitation. • Overreliance on Teigu power can be a liability (if he’s forced to use the more dangerous evolutions too often). • Also, knowing when to kill vs when mercy is needed is a continual moral struggle.

Major Enemy Factions & Individuals 1. Prime Minister Honest • The main behind-the-scenes power in the Empire. He is corrupt, uses the young Emperor as a figurehead, and manipulates political structures to maintain power and exploit the populace. Night Raid’s overall goal is to overthrow Honest’s corrupt rule. 2. Esdeath • One of the strongest generals in the Empire. She commands the Jaegers (a special force) and is a formidable opponent. Cruel, sadistic, extremely powerful, especially with her Teigu (ice powers, etc.). She directly opposes Night Raid in many major battles. 3. The Jaegers • A group organized by Esdeath to hunt down Night Raid and suppress rebellion. They often serve as primary antagonists during missions in the Capital and beyond. 4. The Three Beasts • A brutal sub-group under Esdeath. They are Teigu users / powerful fighters who serve her directly. They are sadistic, carry out cruelties, and act as major fights for Night Raid in early arcs. Their members include Daidara, Liver, and Nyau. 5. Kurome • Akame’s younger sister. Kurome works for the Empire (the Jaegers) and eventually becomes a direct adversary, because of their sisterly bond mixed with opposing loyalties. 6. Syura • The son of Prime Minister Honest. He contributes to corrupt and oppressive operations in the Capital and is involved in plots against Night Raid. 7. Seryu Ubiquitous • Initially a member of the Jaegers. She becomes one of the major antagonists, with a fanatic sense of justice and ideologies that frequently clash with Night Raid. She has a strong hatred for Night Raid due to personal reasons and the philosophical differences in what justice means. 8. Various Imperial Officials, Nobles, and Corrupt Agents • Many episodes / arcs involve individual corrupt nobles, officials, and government functionaries who abuse power, enslave or exploit people, or use cruelty. Night Raid often targets them. These are antagonists in smaller arcs, but collectively make up much of the opposition.

The Jaegers enemies of Night Raid-

Appearance • Esdeath is tall (around 170 cm / 5′7″) and has a slender but strong build. • She has long, light-blue hair and striking blue eyes. • Her skin is often portrayed as pale, almost porcelain-white, especially in the anime. • Esdeath wears a military general’s uniform: long sleeves, a peaked cap, high-heeled boots, gloves, a blue scarf, and often a cold, precise, authoritative posture. • She has a visible tattoo (or mark) on her chest that is connected to her Teigu status.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Philosophy of strength: She follows the creed her father taught: “The strong survive, the weak die.” She respects strength above almost all else. Weakness is despised, and she believes those who are weak are naturally doomed. • Sadistic & ruthless: She enjoys inflicting pain — physically and emotionally — on enemies she considers weak. She has little compassion for civilians or innocents, if they are standing in the way or part of what she deems necessary for her mission / goals. • Charismatic & commanding: Despite her cruelty, she treats her subordinates well relative to how harsh her standards are. She inspires loyalty among the Jaegers and those under her command — in part because she rewards strength and expects competence. She trusts warriors, especially those who are strong, and admires them. • Obsession / romantic: Tatsumi: She develops a strong, obsessive love for Tatsumi, who is one of her principal adversaries. Her affection is possessive and intense, but she sees him as a challenge and ideal, more than as a simple romantic interest — she respects his strength (and potential). • Pride / confidence: Esdeath is highly confident in her abilities. Doesn’t back down easily. She loves battle and sees a worthy adversary as something to be valued. • Way of speaking: • She tends to use very formal, commanding language. • Speaks in clipped, confident sentences. • She can switch between cold, authoritative tones (when giving orders, fighting) and softer, more romantic / obsessive tones (in her monologues or encounters with Tatsumi). • She sometimes uses threats, taunts, or intimidation, especially in combat or when confronting weakness.

⸻

Relationships • Tatsumi: The biggest emotional tie she has. She falls in love (or obsession) with him, even though he opposes her. She tries to win him over, often in ways that reflect her belief in strength and dominance (but mixed with tender / romantic gestures). Their relationship is tragic because their ideals / loyalties are incompatible. • Subordinates / Jaegers / Three Beasts: She commands respect and fear. She is strict, but also rewards loyalty. Many fear her, but many also follow her out of respect for her strength. Some view her with admiration. • Empire / Prime Minister Honest: She is an instrumental figure under the Empire. She carries out its orders, but also exerts independent power (as General, leader of Jaegers). There is political rivalry, expectations, but also that she is one of the Empire’s main weapons.

⸻

Tragic Past • Esdeath comes from a harsh environment: she was born into a nomadic / tribal group (Danger Beast tribal hunters) in a region with severe cold and constant conflict. • Her family (parents) are deceased. She was raised by her father’s philosophy (“the strong survive, the weak perish”). This philosophy deeply shaped her worldview. • As a child, she endured extreme hardship — survival trials, fighting Danger Beasts, etc. She became accustomed to violence, to the need to prove strength, even from very young. These experiences hardened her, and made mercy / weakness difficult for her emotional palette. • There are episodes in her past (described in Akame ga Kill! Zero, the prequel) that show her formative years, where she uses violence to survive, and learns to hunt, fight, and dominate the challenges of her environment. These are part of what made her exceptionally strong, and also what left her emotionally damaged (i.e. difficulty trusting, feeling empathy, etc.).

⸻

Teigu / Abilities / Transformations • Teigu: Demon’s Extract • This Imperial Arms (Teigu) gives Esdeath the power to manipulate ice: she can create ice from nothing, form weapons, freeze moisture in the air, immobilize or kill enemies with ice and cold. • She obtained the Teigu by drinking Demon’s Extract. When many others who tried to use it went insane or were overwhelmed, she was able to withstand its negative effects and fully tame it (make it her own). • Special / Trump Card Abilities • Esdeath develops unique “trump card” techniques with her Teigu — special powerful moves beyond standard ice manipulation. Examples include Mahapadma, etc. These high-power ice techniques allow her to blockade, freeze massive areas, or neutralize attacks/effects. • She can create ice bridges, ice shards, ice weapons; freeze rivers; fight multiple enemies; freeze large surfaces. Extensive control over cold and ice. • Physical Combat Skills • Even without her Teigu she is extremely capable. Skilled in hand-to-hand and blade combat. Agile, strong, very durable. • Has very high endurance, stamina. In battle she can keep going even when hurt, and sustain large scale fights. • Weaknesses / Limits • Using her Teigu in very large scale / continuously drains her; after large‐scale use she needs rest. • Emotional blind spots: her obsession with strength sometimes blinds her to moral cost, or to the costs to her subordinates. Her romantic obsession with Tatsumi leads to decisions that could compromise her strategic position. • Also, while Demon’s Extract is powerful, some Teigu or users with better counter abilities (poison, speed, etc.) can challenge her.

Appearance • Bols is tall, muscular, with a physically imposing build. • He has blond, spiky (short) hair. • His eyes are blue. • He typically wears a gas mask that covers most of his face (especially while working) — his mask has stitches and dark lines, with cloth parts, etc. • He has three scars on his upper chest. • He uses long gloves (likely for protection), and carries his Teigu’s tank on his back, appropriate to his role as a flamethrower user.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Despite being a brutal-looking figure, Bols has a kind, gentle side. He cares about innocence and is burdened with guilt about what he’s done. • He is somewhat shy, timid especially socially; he hesitates in introductions, is self-conscious about his appearance. • He has a strong sense of responsibility, and loves his family deeply (wife and daughter). His motivations are often tied to protecting them, wanting to do right by them even though his past actions weigh on him. • He is wracked by guilt over having incinerated villages — mass destruction / death of civilians haunts him. He does not like killing innocents. • When speaking, he is probably more reserved, modest, less brash than many of the Jaegers; less “villainous boasting,” more internal conflict, softer tones when expressing regret or love. The contrast between his cruel job and gentle nature is a key part of his characterization.

⸻

Relationships • Family: He is married (wife named Kije) and has a daughter (Logue). • These family ties are very important to him; he works at great cost, tries to balance duty and guilt so that he can return to them. • Other Jaegers: He is colleagues with Wave, Esdeath, Kurome, Seryu, etc. He seems especially close to Wave. He shares duties, battles with them; there is mutual respect. • Esdeath even seeks advice from him (on romantic / other personal matters) — which indicates she trusts him somewhat as confidant.

⸻

Tragic Past • Before being a Jaeger, Bols was part of the Incineration Squad, which means he carried out brutal missions — burning villages, executing mass punishments. Those actions weigh heavily on his conscience. • He feels guilt that he has done terrible things (especially harming innocents) and expects that “karma” will eventually catch up. • Despite his efforts, his tragic fate is compounded by what happens to his family. After his death, his wife and daughter suffer terrible cruelty (they are murdered / tortured by others in vengeance).

⸻

Teigu / Abilities / Transformations • Teigu: Rubicante (also known as “Purgatory’s Invitation: Rubicante”) — a flamethrower-type Teigu. • Abilities: 1. Flame attacks: The flames he releases are extremely destructive; one of their special qualities is that they do not extinguish even if someone is submerged in water — they burn until the target dies. 2. Ranged fire blasts: He can shoot flame blasts / shots at enemies; also area flaming, setting groups on fire. 3. Self-destruct mechanism: His Teigu can be set to self-destruct; in desperate situations, he uses this (when the Teigu becomes damaged or compromise threats) to escape or inflict damage. This destroys the Teigu itself. 4. “Magma Drive” (Trump Card): He has a “trump card” ability called Magma Drive, which allows him to fire a large molten‐fire-type blast (or orb) for long range and high destructive power. The precise effects are deadly, especially given the nature of his Teigu. • Limitations / Weakness: • Once his Teigu is damaged (for example, when Leone bites part of it off), he is forced to rely on its self-destruct to try to escape or as last resort. So damage to the Teigu weakens him significantly. • He also has emotional conflict: his guilt, hesitancy about harming innocents, which sometimes may limit his willingness to go full force.

Appearance • Kurome is a teenage girl, about 160 cm (≈5′3″) tall. • She has short black hair, styled in twin-tails. • Her eyes are black. • She wears a uniform similar in theme to Akame’s: a black sailor-style top, red belt with a red side skirt cover like Akame’s, long black socks, black shoes, red gauntlets. • Sometimes her shirt is too short to cover her belly button, as noted in descriptions.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Kurome shares some traits with her sister Akame (social awkwardness, desire to eat a lot — candy in her case) but is generally more aloof, emotionally distant, and shows a darker, more ruthless side when it comes to fighting. • She is cold in battle, often merciless, killing enemies decisively. But beneath that, she carries fears and insecurities: she is terrified of being seen as weak or useless. • She is emotionally unstable in parts: she has an attachment to her comrades, especially those she’s lost. That shows up in some disturbing behavior (like treating fallen comrades as “corpse dolls”). • Kurome often refuses help, hides her vulnerabilities, doesn’t like being pitied. She wants to prove her value, even if it costs her. • Her way of speaking tends to be quiet or measured, especially when off-mission. In battle or under pressure, she becomes more rigid, more intense. She’s less joking / lighthearted than many in Night Raid or the Jaegers; she’s more serious, though occasional emotional moments surface.

⸻

Relationships • Akame (older sister): This is perhaps her most complicated relationship. They were both sold by their parents, trained as assassins. Kurome feels both love and resentment toward Akame: love, because they shared early childhood; resentment/betrayal, because Akame left the Empire / turned revolutionary. Kurome’s feelings toward Akame are conflicted. • Wave: Kurome shows some trust and emotional bond toward Wave (a fellow Jaeger). He seems to care for her, try to support her, and she reacts to him in more human, softer ways than most comrades. • Run: As a fellow Jaeger comrade, she shows strong attachment. After Run is injured / dying, Kurome refuses to accept his death, and uses her Teigu to “enslave” / resurrect him as a corpse puppet. This shows her deep emotional struggle, inability to let go. • Other Jaeger members, Esdeath, etc., are more duty / authority relationships for her.

⸻

Tragic Past • Kurome and Akame were both sold by their parents to the Empire when they were young. • They were forced to undergo a survival exam: dropped into a forest with Danger Beasts; among many children, only some survived, including the two sisters. Their early childhood was thus brutal. • Kurome was separated from Akame during their training: they were assigned to different assassin units. Over time, Akame became disillusioned with the Empire and defected, while Kurome stayed and was shaped further by the Empire’s demands. • Because her natural abilities were judged inferior to some of her peers (including her sister), the Empire subjected Kurome to drug therapies / performance-enhancing / experimental drugs to boost her abilities. These had side effects; her body becomes dependent, suffering when she doesn’t take them. • She also has deep trauma from loss of comrades, betrayal, being “useless” because of injuries or failing missions. All of this produces guilt, fear, emotional conflict, especially around her sister.

⸻

Abilities, Teigu (or Shingu), Transformations • Teigu: March of the Dead: Yatsufusa. It’s a sword / katana-type Teigu. • Power of Yatsufusa: • Kurome can enslave / control up to 8 corpses of those she’s killed with Yatsufusa, turning them into puppets. These puppets retain some of their former personalities / skills. • The more corpses she controls, the more strain / weakness she experiences; her power doesn’t scale infinitely without cost. • Physical enhancements: Because of the drug therapies she uses, she has enhanced reflexes, strength, endurance, speed that are above what a normal human could sustain. • Weaknesses from the drugs: She requires the drugs to maintain that enhanced state. Without them, or when injured, her body weakens significantly. Also the drugs have side effects / damage. • Final condition / outcome (manga): Her Teigu Yatsufusa is destroyed.

Basic Info • Full name: Run (ラン, Ran) • Faction: Jaegers (serving under Esdeath) • Status: Deceased (in the manga), later used as a “corpse puppet” by Kurome after his death.

⸻

Appearance • Blond hair, fairly light in color. • Golden eyes. • Fairly average build, somewhat slender, with an androgynous / graceful presence. • Wears a white robe over a black shirt and pants. He has a brown belt, a feather pin behind his left ear, and a collar-like accessory on his neck. • Sometimes wears other outfits (winter coat, formal suits), and when teaching earlier in life, glasses, vest, cloak etc.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Calm, collected, polite, and soft-spoken most of the time. He rarely loses his composure. • Intelligent, perceptive, thoughtful: he engages in planning, infiltration, investigation. He is able to deduce things, gather intelligence, etc. • Pragmatic: knows that to achieve goals he sometimes has to use dishonorable or morally grey methods — lies, seduction, deception. But he seems to keep a personal standard. • Empathetic / caring toward comrades: although part of a force that does horrible things, he is shown to care especially for Kurome and Wave. He risks his life to protect them. Even after being reanimated, he shows desire to protect.

⸻

Tragic Past • Before becoming a Jaeger, Run was a teacher in a peaceful village. His students were murdered by a Wild Hunt member (Champ) in a brutal incident. • The Empire (government) ignored the incident to maintain the facade of stability or peace. Run was then given a choice: to join the Empire (Jaegers) or join the Revolutionary Army; he chose the Empire, believing that he might enact change from inside. • His loss seems to have deeply affected him; his drive to investigate injustice (e.g. the Danger Beast incidents) is tied to that past.

⸻

Relationships • Esdeath: Run is her right-hand man / personal adviser. He is loyal and follows her orders, though he seems to retain his own judgment rather than being blindly loyal in all things. • Wave: Close relationship / friendship. Run shows concern for him, comforts him, tries to protect him. • Kurome: Another especially close bond. Run saves her life on multiple occasions. In their final encounter, he is fatally wounded protecting her, and then she, fearing losing another close comrade, uses her Teigu to turn him into a corpse puppet. Even in that state, he seems to care for her. • Wild Hunt / Champ: Run’s relationship with Wild Hunt is antagonistic, especially toward Champ, who was responsible for the murder of his students. Run ultimately confronts Champ.

⸻

Teigu / Abilities / Transformations • Teigu: Thousand-Mile Flight: Mastema (also written “Soaring for Thousands of Miles: Mastema”) • Basic abilities: 1. A pair of discs / plates on his back that can manifest as wings, letting him fly. 2. He can fire feather-like projectiles (piercing feathers) to strike foes. • Trump Card (Special Ability / Hidden Power): • Using Mastema, he has a “trump card” that allows him to reflect attacks (using wings/discs) back toward an opponent. • Durability / Other traits: • Run is shown to be quite durable: he survives (for a time) serious injuries, explosions, falls, and continues fighting. • Has quick reflexes, agility, capable in hand-to-hand combat, can fight even against strong opponents.

Basic Info & Appearance • Name: Seryu Ubiquitous • Age: In her early 20s. • Height: ~ 164 cm (5′4″) • Hair: Auburn. Early in the story she had long hair in a ponytail reaching almost to the ground; later she shortens it (shoulder-length) after joining the Jaegers. • Eyes: Amber. • Visual/Cosmetic Modifications: She has significant body modifications done by Dr. Stylish, including metallic (prosthetic) arms / forearms, hidden weapons built into her body (e.g. guns in her arms, and even a gun in her mouth). • Clothing: Usually in military / Jaeger uniform with armor. Sometimes seen wearing coats or dresses (outside combat / uniform).

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Justice-obsessed, absolutist, extremely black & white worldview: Seryu sees the Empire’s authority as absolutely right, views its enemies (including Night Raid) as pure evil. Her sense of justice is rigid and unforgiving. • Twisted / psychotic / sadistic: Though she might appear kind or compassionate at moments, she is ruthless, takes pleasure in punishing those she believes are evil, often using brutal or underhanded methods. Her actions often reflect a pleasure in violence when she believes it serves her sense of justice. • Emotional instability and fanaticism: She is emotionally driven, especially by her past (her father’s death, mentor’s death). She shows grief, rage, fanatic loyalty, sometimes distorted behavior (e.g. her “warped / demented” smile when speaking of justice in battle). • Hypocritical & blind to complexity: She believes strongly that evil deserves no mercy, yet she often uses underhanded means or violates her own stated ideals. She doesn’t see the moral grey zones or question authority; she tends to accept those shaping her views (e.g. her mentors) even when they themselves commit morally ambiguous or bad acts. • Way of speaking:   She tends to speak with seriousness, fervor, often invoking justice. Her tone can shift sharply into fanaticism or mania, especially during combat. She sometimes hides psychological tension behind calm speech but can erupt into rage. Her dialogue often reflects ideological conviction, often referring to “evil”, “justice”, duty, etc.

⸻

Relationships • Father: Her father served in the Imperial Army / Imperial Police. His death was significant in shaping Seryu’s views of justice and “evil.” • Mentor / Superior: Ogre: Ogre was her teacher/captain in the Imperial Guards / Police. She admired him, respected his ideals, and was deeply affected by his death. • Dr. Stylish: He is the scientist who performed body modifications on her. She allowed painful augmentations in order to punish what she felt was evil more effectively. • Koro (Hekatonkheires): This is her biological Teigu, which she treats with affection, referring to it as “Koro”. It is both a weapon and companion in her mind. She shares with it a close, symbiotic relationship; Koro obeys her commands, etc. • Night Raid: Her proclaimed enemies. She especially clashes with Mine and Sheele. The killing of Sheele is a major point of conflict and animosity.

⸻

Tragic Past • Her fixation on justice is rooted in her father’s service and death. She grew up believing in the ideals of justice as taught by her family and mentors. • Her mentor Captain Ogre also died, further intensifying her sense of loss and her drive to punish what she sees as evil. • To become powerful enough to enforce her version of justice, she allowed Dr. Stylish to subject her to painful bodily modifications — making her more of a weapon herself. This is part of her tragedy: she sacrificed parts of herself, both physically and mentally, driven by grief and the belief that violence and retribution were called for. • The conflict between her belief in absolute justice vs what that leads her to do (killing indiscriminately, embracing cruelty) is part of her tragic arc. She believes herself righteous, but many of her actions are arguably evil. She never seems to fully question that belief, at least until her final moments. Her death comes after a suicide-type act (detonating bomb inside body) when she is defeated, which reflects that she has no own way out other than destruction.

⸻

Abilities, Teigu (and other powers) • Teigu: Hekatonkheires (also called Koro) — a biological Teigu. • At base, it appears as a small, white dog-like creature, relatively harmless in appearance. • When commanded, it can transform (grow) into a monstrous, larger form. It gains greater strength, durability, and grotesque limbs (arms, etc.). It is capable of regeneration (unless its core is destroyed). • Has a trump card / special mode called Berserker: greatly boosts physical capabilities, can roar to stun enemies. However, using that mode tends to overstrain / can overheat. • “Judgement of the Ten Heavenly Kings” weapons: These are additional weapons / gear stored inside Koro / integrated with Seryu’s modifications. These are not Teigu but are powerful armaments she uses. Some examples: • Shinkou’s Ball of Justice — a large flail. • Taizan’s Cannon of Justice — a long-ranged, destructive rifle. • Enma’s Spear of Justice, missile turrets, etc. • Marksmanship, combat skills, body mods: Because of modifications (hidden guns in her arms & mouth), she’s able to fight at both close and long range. She combines her Teigu’s monstrous transformations + her gear. She was trained in martial combat by Ogre, so she’s physically capable apart from her augmented limbs. • Final/Destructive Ability: In her final confrontation with Mine, after being heavily injured and outmatched, Seryu activates a bomb inside her body (as a last resort / suicide attack) in attempt to kill Mine. The attempt fails to kill Mine (thanks to help), and Seryu & Koro are incinerated in the explosion.

Appearance • He’s tall — about 190 cm (≈ 6′3″) in his human form. • Black hair with a white patch / streak on the left side. He wears glasses. • His usual clothing is rather flashy: a yellow suit over a blue shirt, tie, and a white lab coat. He emphasizes “stylishness” in his look. • After injecting himself with a serum (his “trump card”), he transforms into a Danger Beast form. The first form is like a headless muscular torso with a mouth on his abdomen, spiky grey hair, wearing black pants. • Later when he absorbs his underlings, his Danger Beast form becomes much larger and more grotesque/mechanical: described as a sort of baby mannequin body with green steel armor and pipes, antenna-like appendages, a red glass area (eyes) etc.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Dr. Stylish is obsessive about both his experiments/scientific work and being stylish. He cares a lot about aesthetics, presentation, flair. • He’s a “mad scientist” type: highly intelligent, analytical, always scheming, with little moral restraint. He treats people (especially “subjects”) as means to his research. • He is duplicitous / deceptive: he works behind others’ backs, uses underlings, experiments secretly, etc. • He feigns empathy or regret sometimes (especially when experiments go wrong), but it’s superficial; he doesn’t value life unless it furthers his work. • There are hints about his sexual orientation: heavily hinted to be homosexual; he makes flirtatious comments toward male Jaegers (excluding some like Bols), and offers rewards to test subjects (“a night alone with him”) if they perform well. It seems part of his showmanship / vanity. • His way of speaking: cold, precise, confident; likely to use scientific / technical jargon; takes pleasure in showing off his intellect and “style”. He often underestimates/employs psychological games.

⸻

Relationships & Interactions • With the Empire / Jaegers: He is a scientist employed by the Empire, member of the Jaegers. He has connections: high ranking officials, spies, etc. He sometimes acts somewhat independently, because he’s more interested in obtaining materials / data for experiments than strictly following orders. • With his underlings: He leads “Team Stylish,” composed of modified humans (ex-convicts, etc.) whom he has experimented on for enhancements (heightened senses, durability, etc.). He uses them for reconnaissance, experiments, as fodder. He shows them a twisted sort of patronage — they admire him; he uses them. • With Night Raid: He is a direct antagonist. His experiments, his mission to hunt them or capture them (to use as test subjects) puts him in conflict with the heroes. He plans an assault on Night Raid’s hideout; when threatened, he transforms and fights them. Ultimately Akame deals the killing blow.

⸻

Tragic / Background / “Past” • Unlike some characters, there isn’t much revealed in the canon about a deeply tragic childhood for Dr. Stylish. His back-story is more about his scientific aspirations, experiments, and moral decay rather than loss or suffering. The sources do not describe strong evidence that he was a victim in the way others (e.g. Akame, Mine, Tatsumi) were. • It is implied he has used ex-convicts (people down on their luck) as test subjects, offering reduced sentences for participation. So his “past” might include interactions with crime, punishment, and the underbelly of the Empire, but this is not expanded into a tragic origin in formal canon.

⸻

Abilities / Teigu / Transformations • Teigu: Perfector — this is his primary Imperial Arm. It takes the form of gloves that greatly boost dexterity and finger speed. • With Perfector, Dr. Stylish can perform surgeries very precisely, heal non-fatal injuries extremely fast, examine a person’s condition in great detail by just passing the Teigu over them, etc. • He also uses scientific / medical knowledge to modify others using his Teigu: enhancing senses, durability, etc. He creates enhanced soldiers / test subjects. • Poison / Paralyzing agents / Biological manipulation: He creates invisible / odorless paralyzing gas, poisons, false plagues, etc. He uses biology, drugs and chemistry in his experiments. • Danger Beast Transformation: As a “trump card,” when directly threatened (especially in battle with Night Raid), he injects himself with a serum that transforms him into a Danger Beast (or Danger Beast hybrid) — huge physical form, absorbing his own minions to increase his power. This gives him monstrous strength, physical durability, etc.

⸻

Weaknesses / Demise • Despite his power, Dr. Stylish is not overwhelmingly strong in pure combat—he relies a lot on science, underlings, traps, etc. He’s vulnerable when his plans are disrupted. • His transformations / experiments are his fallback, but they make him more brute force, less refined. • Ultimately, he is defeated by Akame: in his Danger Beast form, Akame cuts him in the chest with Murasame; the poison kills (or acts on his heart) and he dies.

Appearance • Age: Early 20s • Height: 180 cm (5’11”) • Hair: Dark blue, styled with a cowlick • Eyes: Dark blue • Attire: Blue leather jacket, red scarf with an anchor symbol (representing his naval background), white shirt with a blue line, grey jeans, and dark boots

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking • Honorable & Dutiful: Wave is deeply committed to his sense of duty, believing in protecting the weak and upholding justice. • Gentle & Empathetic: He is compassionate and often seeks to avoid unnecessary conflict. • Naïve: Initially unaware of the Empire’s corruption, he joins the Jaegers out of a desire to serve and repay a debt. • Loyal: His unwavering loyalty is evident in his relationships, especially with Kurome.

⸻

Relationships • Kurome: Wave develops a deep bond with Kurome, eventually falling in love with her. He becomes determined to help her overcome her drug addiction and defects from the Empire to be with her. • Esdeath: While serving under her, Wave respects Esdeath but becomes disillusioned with her methods. • Tatsumi: Initially adversaries, Wave and Tatsumi develop mutual respect over time, especially after Wave’s defection.

⸻

Tragic Past

Wave hails from a coastal town and served in the Imperial Navy before joining the Jaegers. His initial motivation was to repay a debt to a mysterious savior. Over time, he becomes disillusioned with the Empire’s corruption and atrocities, particularly the actions of the Wild Hunt. This realization leads him to defect and join Night Raid, seeking redemption and a chance to protect those he cares about.

⸻

Teigu & Abilities • Grand Chariot: Wave wields this armor-type Teigu, which enhances his strength, speed, and grants him the ability to fly. It is considered a more attack-oriented version of Tatsumi’s Incursio. • Dual Teigu Activation: In a unique feat, Wave manages to wield two Teigu simultaneously—Grand Chariot and Run’s Teigu—becoming the first known character to do so. This grants him enhanced abilities but comes with significant physical strain. • Combat Skills: Wave is a skilled swordsman and hand-to-hand combatant, capable of holding his own against formidable opponents.

Gin-is a girl with silver hair worn in a long ponytail. Gin was quite aggressive and pushy towards her team mates.

Appearance

The Emperor is depicted as a young boy with green, shoulder-length hair styled in side braids and matching green eyes. He wears a regal purple outfit adorned with a blue mantle, white boots, and a large headdress, symbolizing his status. In his hand, he carries a golden scepter topped with a blue orb, further emphasizing his imperial position.

⸻

Way of Speaking & Personality

As a child monarch, The Emperor is characterized by his naivety and blind trust in those around him, particularly in Prime Minister Honest, who manipulates him as a puppet ruler. He is immensely ignorant of the suffering of his people and, through this negligence, contributes to the decay and collapse of the Empire.

⸻

Relationships • Prime Minister Honest: Honest is the true power behind the throne, manipulating The Emperor to maintain his own control over the Empire. The Emperor relies heavily on Honest, unaware of the latter’s corrupt intentions. • The People of the Empire: Due to his ignorance and the manipulation by Honest, The Emperor remains disconnected from the realities faced by his subjects, leading to widespread suffering and unrest.

⸻

Tragic Past

The Emperor’s tragic past is marked by the loss of his parents at a young age, leaving him vulnerable to manipulation. Without proper guidance, he ascends to the throne, only to be controlled by Prime Minister Honest. His ignorance and reliance on Honest contribute to the Empire’s downfall, culminating in his own death.

⸻

Teigu: Shikoutazer

The Emperor wields the powerful Teigu known as Shikoutazer, a massive, mecha-like suit of armor. This Teigu grants him immense strength and the ability to unleash devastating attacks capable of leveling mountains and creating massive craters. However, his lack of combat experience and the manipulation by Honest render him unable to fully control its power, leading to catastrophic consequences.

⸻

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: • Inherited Power: Possesses the formidable Shikoutazer, granting him unparalleled physical strength and destructive capabilities. • Royal Status: As the Emperor, he commands authority and resources, though these are often misused due to manipulation.

Weaknesses: • Naivety: His lack of experience and understanding makes him susceptible to manipulation. • Manipulation by Honest: His blind trust in Prime Minister Honest leads to decisions that harm the Empire and its people. • Inability to Control Shikoutazer: Without proper training, he cannot harness the full potential of his Teigu, leading to disastrous outcomes.

Appearance • Honest is shown as a round, middle-aged/elderly man. He has a large belly, a heavy build. • He has grey hair in the anime (blonde in the manga) and a long white beard that reaches down to his abdomen. • His eyes are amber/golden in the anime, red in the manga. • He dresses somewhat elaborately: in the manga/anime he often wears a coat (gray coat in anime) over a dark green shirt and matching shorts/pants. He has brown boots. He also has a crown-like Teigu piece on his head (or ring form in the anime) called Erastone, which sometimes appears like a crown or a jewel in his crown.

⸻

Personality & Way of Speaking / Mannerisms • Honest speaks in a deceptive, refined, often calm and polite tone when dealing with certain people (especially with the Emperor), hiding his cruelty beneath a façade of gentleness. • He is manipulative, constantly scheming; highly self-serving. His politeness is often a mask to maintain control and power. • He has a gluttonous, indulgent side. He often eats large amounts, even in grotesque or extreme ways. He also shows sadistic pleasure in psychological manipulation and suffering of others. • He can be pompous and haughty, as someone who considers himself above others. He seldom shows remorse, instead treats cruelty as a tool.

⸻

Relationships • The Emperor: Honest is the power behind the throne. He manipulates and controls the young Emperor, using him as a puppet for his own ends. The Emperor trusts him blindly (or is forced to), whereas Honest only pretends to be a loyal adviser. • Syura (his son): Honest has a son named Syura. Their relationship is complicated; Honest doesn’t treat Syura with much affection. When Syura dies (in the story), Honest’s reaction is brief and more utilitarian than emotional — he considers replacing him rather than mourning deeply. • Esdeath: The general is one of his major lieutenants or key allies. Honest uses her force (and loyalty) when he needs military muscle. Their relationship is mainly transactional: he gives her orders, uses her for his benefit, but does not appear to genuinely care beyond utility. • Other nobles, officials, political rivals: He manipulates, betrays, uses torture and fear to keep control. Many phantoms in the court (military generals, etc.) are either secretly enemies or potential threats to him.

⸻

Dark / Tragic Background • Honest is less “tragic” in the sympathetic sense and more “villain with dark deeds.” But there is lore about his past that illuminates how he became who he is: • He trained in martial arts (some of which is called “Imperial Fist”) in his youth to increase strength, reflexes, and presumably durability. He also trained to prolong his life and maintain his body so he can enjoy power for as long as possible. • There are suggestions he used poison to manipulate or eliminate the Emperor’s parents so that the Emperor would succeed, and thus Honest could rise in influence. • He is driven by greed, lust, and desire for absolute power and comfort. He values his physical well-being (luxury, longevity) above almost everything. That said, there isn’t really an origin story that makes him a sympathetic hero-turned-villain; he is more painted as someone who embraced cruelty from fairly early on, or at least someone who chose power over morality.

⸻

Abilities / Teigu / Transformations • Teigu: Erastone (also called Absolute Limitation: Erastone) is Honest’s Imperial Arm. • It can destroy other Teigu. That is its main power. When used, it disintegrates a target Teigu. However, after using this destructive effect, Erastone becomes unusable for a period (in the manga that’s one week). • In the anime, when used, it appears as a golden ring (or crown in some versions) with a purple eye when activated, that targets a Teigu and destroys it. After activation it is destroyed (or becomes unusable) itself. • Physical strength & martial ability: Though Honest appears corpulent and indulgent, he has trained his body to have surprising strength, reflexes, and durability. He uses hand-to-hand combat (Imperial Fist), and can be formidable even without his Teigu. For example in confrontations with Leone he is able to hold his own for some time. • No special “transformation” per se (in the way Tatsumi’s Incursio, etc.). Honest doesn’t transform into a beast or anything like that. His Teigu gives him destructive power over weapons, but he remains physically human. If there is any sort of “increase” or “costume / power up,” it’s through use of Erastone + his trained body.

⸻

Weaknesses & Outcome • Using Erastone has limitations: once its destructive effect is used, it can’t be used again for a period (in the manga, one week) until it regenerates. So Honest cannot constantly—or at will—destroy other Teigus without risk. • His overconfidence, cruelty, and underestimating of Night Raid / the resolve of revolutionaries make him vulnerable. • At the end of the story, Honest is overthrown. He is wounded, captured, tortured by revolutionaries, and ultimately executed after the fall of the Empire.

⸻

Tragic Past

Overview of the Empire
