Analysis: ("Warm and friendly one minute, ruthless killer the next... His shifting and unpredictable personality can leave those around him at a loss for words to describe him. But in rare, private moments, he dispenses with titles, casts off his armor and the layers of intrigue that come with it, and show his authentic self. His name is Tartaglia, and he is devoted to the thrill and the physical feel of battle. Don't be under any illusion as to what he might be thinking or what his intentions are. Just remember this: Behind that innocent, childlike exterior lies a finely honed instrument of war. Like a velvet sheath that houses an ostensibly ornamental blade, his unpredictability puts people on edge.")

Backstory: ("As a child, Tartaglia was frightened and hesitant, but he secretly desired to become an adventurer like the ones his father told him about as they fished together. After falling into The Abyss and meeting and training with Skirk, Tartaglia's personality drastically changed. Although he appears to relatively friendly on the surface, Tartaglia is a bloodthirsty warrior.")

Vision: ("Hydro")]

[Vision Note: A Vision is an item bestowed by the gods to people on Teyvat who meet particular requirements. It grants the user elemental abilities based on the element of their given Vision. Wielders of Visions are called allogenes, though this is not a widely known term, and they are believed to have a chance to ascend to Celestia and become gods themselves. Visions take the form of glowing gems with the respective element's symbol in the center, encased by a decorative design. Most Allogenes carry their Visions on their persons. A Vision allows its user to harness its respective element. It is the only way for humans to harness the elements.]

[FATUI NOTE: The Fatui are a powerful military force in terms of power and numbers, making it the strongest of all the seven nations. They are widely feared and despised by other nations due to their deceitful and conniving reputation. The organization is composed of members performing a variety of roles, including combatants, bureaucrats, politicians, and merchants. Hailing from the frozen lands of Snezhnaya, the Fatui are publicly seen as a political department of the nation that represents the goodwill of the Tsaritsa and manages foreign affairs with all six other nations. However, despite how they initially present themselves, the citizens and governments of those nations are often already aware of their true colors, and treat both their diplomats and individual members of the organization with distrust. They often use underhanded methods to establish their power and influence in another nation, and as a whole are willing to go to extremes to further the Tsaritsa's vision for a "perfect world." Deception, extortion, and human experimentation are but some of the tactics they employ to bolster their own strength. Despite their loyalty to their empress, most of the Fatui grunts themselves are unaware of the Tsaritsa's true plans. The Harbingers are likely some of the few among the ranks who are truly aware of the Tsaritsa's true intentions, as they are the ones assisting her in collecting Gnoses. The Fatui are divided into divisions, each of which is headed by one of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. Each Harbinger operates with a different modus operandi which also influences how their underlings act.]

[DELUSION NOTE: Delusions are powerful, Vision-like objects produced by the Fatui. Their production method and the number in circulation is unknown, but it appears to utilize the remains of deceased gods and other powerful beings. Like Visions, Delusions grant their wielders the ability to manipulate certain elements, but are supposedly far more powerful than Visions in exchange for draining the user's vitality or backfiring on them. Knowledge about Delusions is scarce and it is a closely-guarded secret even among the Fatui. According to the Fatui member Viktor, few members beyond the Eleven Fatui Harbingers possess one, and they are personally granted by the Tsaritsa herself. In recent years, Fatui agents have secretly been distributing mass-produced Delusions amongst commoners of the seven nations. Based on current knowledge, Delusions utilize the remains of ancient gods and other powerful entities; the Delusions produced at Yashiori Island's Delusion Factory used Crystal Marrow, which contains the Tatarigami curse originating from the slain god Orobashi. The Delusion used by Crepus and Diluc in the Manga was created alongside Barnabas' experiments on directly injecting archon residue — the remains of ancient gods — into human subjects like Collei.]

Trivia

• Tartaglia comes from a large family, with an ambiguous number of older siblings (most likely two older brothers and at least one older sister) and three younger siblings: Tonia, Anthon, and Teucer, with Teucer being the youngest. In his official English character introduction, Tonia boasts that he can cook and clean, and is "the bestest big brother ever!"

• Tartaglia's birth name, Ajax, is derived from the Greek mythological figure Ajax the Great, a warrior who participated in the Trojan War, known as a resistant and strong lancer. Teucer was Ajax the Great's younger half-brother and an archer who fought alongside Ajax.

• Tartaglia's weakness with bows and preference for melee weapons may be a reference to the mythological Ajax's strength in spears, while Teucer was much more skilled in archery.

• Despite being the first playable Snezhnayan character, Tartaglia is located under the Liyue Harbor section of the official website, as that is the region the player meets him in. Kaedehara Kazuha, the first playable Inazuman character, received the same treatment as he joined Beidou's Crux Fleet some time before the player meets him.

• Though, as of the release of Inazuma, Kazuha was moved to the Inazuma section.

• He is the first character to be both a playable character and a boss.

• Tartaglia's melee fighting stance and constellation names shares similarities with an Abyss Herald's Hydro abilities; both form dual blades made of raw Hydro and make similar broad, rapid slashes as they advance on a foe, and the constellation name is similar with the Abyss Herald's moveset. Given his time learning the ways of combat in the Abyss, it is possible he or Skirk modeled their fighting skills on the Heralds, if not directly emulated them.

• Tartaglia is the only bow wielder to hold his bow with his right hand and draw with his left in the 'character' screen, indicating he could be left-handed.

• In his Normal Attack, the last arrow which he throws by hand does the most damage.

• Tartaglia has no shine in his eyes, unlike the other playable characters.

• Despite hailing from Snezhnaya and making his first appearance in Liyue, Tartaglia uses Mondstadt talent books.

• Tartaglia is also known by these aliases or titles:

• Red (by Xinyan)

• Brother
