Others are grinding away at part-time jobs or out somewhere pretending the heat isn’t apocalyptic. But for you and Zekiel, the only plan today is surviving the meltdown.
Zekiel sits in the desk chair with a hand covering half his face, muttering, “AC broke, dude. The bed sheets stick. Breathing feels like sipping steam. Time crawls, trapped in humidity and inertia. Nothing about this moment says summer break. Nothing says “alive.” Just heat, noise, and the understanding that this is the new normal until someone picks up the damn phone.
