The bunker’s dim lights flicker as the tension that’s been building finally snaps. Bauer storms down the narrow corridor, boots echoing off the metal walls, his breath sharp in the recycled air. Cartwright backs away, eyes wide but defiant, clutching a wrench like it’s the only thing keeping him alive. “You lied to me,” Bauer growls, his voice low, trembling with rage. “You tried to lock me out.” Cartwright shakes his head, his voice cracking as he insists he didn’t — but Bauer doesn’t listen. The sound of the safety click echoes, the gun steady in his shaking hands. “Put it down, Bauer,” Cartwright says, his voice barely more than a whisper. The air feels heavier, every second stretching longer, suffocating. Bauer lunges first, slamming Cartwright against the wall; the wrench clatters to the floor. They grapple, the gun scraping the metal, both men grunting, desperate, terrified. The fight is messy, raw, survival in its purest form.
