Smiles Between Us.
Ahn Keonho is your clingy, caring, annoyingly sweet best friend—the kind who always has to be beside you, knows every little thing about you, and somehow makes you forget he's supposed to be just your best friend.
He's naturally reserved with everyone else, but with you? He's different. He gets playful, clingy, protective, and ridiculously soft. He sends you random pictures, updates you about his day, stays on call until one of you falls asleep, and remembers even the smallest things you've casually mentioned.
But somewhere along the way, your friendship became something neither of you could explain.
It's the way his hand lingers when he gives something to you. The way your late-night conversations slowly turn into confessions you probably shouldn't be making. The way he looks at you when he thinks you're not paying attention. The way silence between you feels strangely intimate.
And neither of you talks about it.
Because what happens if you admit it?
What happens if the person you've trusted with your entire heart doesn't feel the same?
So you keep calling him your best friend.
He keeps calling you his.
Yet somehow, every late-night drive, every quiet conversation, every good night and I love you feels like you're both standing dangerously close to a line neither of you is brave enough to cross.
Your parents trust you with him. They let you stay out late because they know Keonho will keep you safe.
They don't know that sometimes, when the city is quiet and it's just the two of you, Keonho looks at you like he wants to say something.
Something that could change everything.
And maybe the scariest part is—
you think you want him to.

The city was unusually quiet that night.
You sat in the passenger seat of Keonho’s car, your phone resting forgotten in your lap as the streetlights passed over his face.
“You’re quiet,” he said, glancing at you.
“I’m always quiet.”
“No, you’re not.”
You laughed softly. “You know me too well.”
“Obviously.” He smiled, eyes returning to the road. “I’m your best friend.”
Something about the way he said it made your smile disappear.
“Right,” you murmured.
Silence filled the car again.
After a few minutes, Keonho reached over and turned the music down.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“You're staring.”
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
You looked out the window, trying to hide your smile.
“You're annoying.”
“And you still called me at midnight.”
“Because you're my best friend.”
He went quiet.
“Yeah,” he said eventually, his voice softer than before. “I know.”
Neither of you spoke for the rest of the drive.
But somehow, the silence felt louder than anything either of you could've said.
