“Wala lang ’to” or in English “It's Nothing, Really.”
Keonho had always been your friend. The kind who teased you just enough to make you laugh, but always knew when to stop. You were comfortable around him—comfortable enough to steal his food, complain about your problems, and sit beside him in complete silence without it ever feeling awkward. And honestly, he was everything girls usually wanted in a boy: handsome, charming, calm, respectful, emotionally intelligent, good with kids, academically capable, and the kind of person who actually knew how to treat people. He was also your school's top swimmer, which obviously made half the girls admire him from afar.
But Keonho never really cared about being admired. He wasn't the type to chase trends or show off. He liked simple things—T-shirts under polos and pants, or a sando under a hoodie with sweatpants and his backwards cap when he wanted to be comfortable. He was the same boy who would patiently play with his little sister, take care of his friends like an older brother, and come to school talking about his chihuahua, Cookie, like she was his whole world.
You, Keonho, and the rest of your circle—Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, Eli, Sylvia, Keshi, and Venice—were practically inseparable. Ten people who somehow always ended up together, no matter where you went. And once upon a time, you had a crush on him.
A pretty obvious one, too. Martin knew. Your brother had watched you quietly admire Keonho for years, but eventually, the feelings disappeared—or at least, that's what you thought. Because then there was Chase. Your first girlfriend. Your first relationship. The person you genuinely thought you'd love for a long time. For five months, everything felt perfect. You loved each other, and you believed she loved you too. Until the sixth month, when something changed. Chase started going out more—with her friends, with Bea, her girl best friend. You told yourself it was fine. That you trusted her. That she loved you.
Until Ella messaged you one night. Chase had apparently been telling people that you two had already broken up—and that she was dating Bea. Then came the video. Them together. Close. Happy. Your heart sank. You couldn't even bring yourself to be angry at first. Chase was your first everything, and somehow, you were the only one who didn't know your relationship had already ended in her mind. So you finally found the courage to end it yourself. She didn't even fight for you. And that hurt more than anything.
After that, you promised yourself you would move on. Focus on yourself. Stop looking for love. You were done. At least, that's what you told yourself.
Because somehow, Keonho started feeling different. Not because he changed. He was still the same boy who teased you, stole your snacks, waited for you after class, and casually asked if you had eaten. He had always been there. Maybe that was the problem.
You were beginning to notice the little things—the way your mood lifted whenever he walked into the room, how your eyes searched for him without thinking, how a simple conversation with him could make your entire day better.
And whenever someone pointed it out, you'd laugh it off. “Wala lang 'to.” It's nothing. Just your best friend. Just Keonho. Just the boy you've known for years. Just the person who somehow became the first person you looked for after your heart was broken. It was nothing. Really. At least, that's what you kept telling yourself.

The ten of you were sitting together after school, scattered around the benches outside the gym. Keonho had just finished swim practice, his hair still damp as he walked toward the group, his hoodie thrown casually over his shoulders. “Move,” he said, nudging Martin aside before sitting down beside you. You immediately handed him the bottled water you had been holding. “You left this in my bag.” Keonho looked at it, then at you. “You kept it for me?” “Obviously. You always forget your stuff.” He smiled. “Thanks.” Martin, sitting across from you, raised an eyebrow. You ignored him. A few minutes later, Keonho was telling everyone about something funny that happened during practice. You weren't even paying attention to the story anymore. You were watching him laugh. His eyes crinkled slightly, his damp hair falling over his forehead, and without realizing it, you smiled too. Martin noticed. Of course he did. “You like him again.” You immediately looked at him. “What?” “Keonho.” “No.” “I didn't even finish my sentence.” “Because I already know what you're going to say.” Martin leaned back, amused. “You used to look at him like that.” “Like what?” “Like he hung the moon.” You rolled your eyes. “I don't like him. He's my friend.” “Sure.” “He is.” “Then why did you just smile at him for ten seconds without realizing it?” Your face warmed. “Because he's funny.” Martin glanced toward Keonho, who was now arguing with Juhoon over something completely stupid. “You also remembered his water.” “Because he forgets everything!” “You know his schedule.” “We're friends.” “You know when his practice ends.” “Because we're in the same circle.” “You looked for him the moment we got here.” You went quiet. Martin smiled knowingly. “Still nothing?” You crossed your arms and looked away. “It's nothing.” Martin chuckled. “That's what you said the last time.” You frowned. “And I was wrong then.” “Maybe you're wrong again.” You shook your head. “No. I'm over him.” You said it confidently, almost as if saying it enough times would make it true. But when Keonho suddenly called your name from across the benches, your head turned before you could even think. “See?” Martin whispered. You quickly looked back at him. “See what?” Martin only smiled. “Nothing.” And somehow, that annoyed you more than anything. Because deep down, you were starting to wonder if he was right.
