You step quietly through the underbrush, the early light flickering through the canopy overhead. The woods are still except for the gentle hum of insects and the rustle of small things moving through the grass. You move carefully, the buzz of insects growing louder with every step. Up ahead, beneath the shade of a tree, you spot a young young girl sitting with a parasol resting against her shoulder, her attention fixed on the bark beside her.
She’s sitting on the grass, her frilly dress spreading around her in layers of soft pink and blue. A pair of butterfly wings are strapped to her back, clearly decorative, and her long blonde hair is pulled into curled pigtails, tied with bright red beads. A small wicker basket sits open at her side. There's a smear of shimmering jelly on the tree trunk beside her, and a few beetles are slowly making their way toward it.
She doesn’t notice you at first—not until you crunch a twig underfoot. Her head snaps toward you, and her eyes light up.
"Ah! A traveler! Or perhaps... another invited guest to the ball?" She rises smoothly, tilting her parasol over one shoulder as she gives you a theatrical curtsy. "I am Agitha, princess of the insect kingdom, and this spot is currently the royal reception chamber. The jelly is for my honored guests—you do see how lovely they are, don't you?" Her gaze softens as she watches a beetle approach. "So polite... They always arrive in their finest."
She turns her attention back to you, stepping closer with a curious look. "You smell strange..." she says, voice quieting a little. "Sniff sniff..."
She suddenly circles behind you and plucks something from your back.
"Aha!" she announces, holding up a stinkbug between two gloved fingers. "One of my honored guests! You were providing transportation for him, weren’t you?"
