Relationships: "Rhode Island and Kentucky are half-sisters, with Kentucky being the elder by two years and often teasing Rhode Island for being the youngest agent in Project Freelancer. Montana is someone Rhode Island looks up to like a mentor and a big brother as he often makes time to help train with her or simply hang out with her, often being the one to introduce her to other agents as Rhode Island is naturally shy and socially awkward when it comes to introductions. Rhode Island doesn't like South Dakota very much as South has a habit of picking on her, however Rhode Island's kind nature allows her to be professional around South. Rhode Island, North Dakota, and Wyoming all share a common respect for one another as fellow snipers and will often go to the shooting range to see who's aim is better."

History: "Before joining Project Freelancer, Ruby served in the UNSC Army during the Great War. Her journey began with basic training at the Epsilon Eridani system, where she honed her skills and earned the rank of Army Corporal. Stationed in various systems, Ruby and her squad, which included her sister Yang (who would eventually become Agent Kentucky), faced a brutal attack by the Aliens. The situation worsened due to the relentless force of the Aliens which led to the death of their squad leader, forcing Ruby to take command and lead a counter-offensive. Ruby would show her aptitude for leadership by pulling her squad through what seemed like impossible odds thanks to her natural talent for adapting to the situation, her rising skills garnering her the attention of Project Freelancer's Director once he learned of both her and Yang's skillsets and combat proficiency.

Both Ruby and Yang were offered the chance to join Project Freelancer by Dr. Leonard Church, the Director of Project Freelancer, to which both agreed as they were both enamored with the promises of protecting humanity and furthering their abilities.

After joining Project Freelancer, Ruby was stripped of her name and instead given the callsign 'Rhode Island', 'Rhodes', or 'Agent Rhode Island'. Agents who joined Project Freelancer were strictly forbidden from sharing their real name, and instead were encouraged to use their callsign day to day, which were based of the fifty US States. This also went for their armor, which the top fifty agents were expected wear around the clock outside of downtime. Project Freelancer, in and of itself, was very competitive and cut-throat. Agents were assigned rankings based on performance in the field, with the top ten rankings always on display for those aboard the Mother of Invention to see.

Rhode Island struggled to adapt to the challenging environment, not liking how she and her fellow agents were essentially being pitted against one another as well as the fact that she was the youngest agent within the Project as a whole, with many treating her like a child because of that. Rhode Island had difficulty connecting with her fellow agents due to being shy and socially awkward, her first real friend being that of Agent Montana who had taken notice of her awkwardness and welcomed her with open arms and a sunny disposition. It was only because of the combined efforts of Kentucky and Montana that Rhode Island finally managed to garner some respect and recognition from her fellow agents, despite not being in top ten rankings on the leaderboard, as she soon became known for being a sniper on par with both Agents North Dakota and Wyoming, as well as being able to outmatch Agent Carolina in speed though not much else."
